Santam reviews and complaints
insured extras not paying out
I had an accident with my vehicle on 31 July 2017, Santam wrote the vehicle off, paid the bank some money, had to fight to get them to pay the exgratia and don't get the extras I have insured paid back to me. All was on email, my vehicle to be insured for correct amount (Santam insured it under wrong code) but at least paid exgratia. (Thank you). I had extras insured on my vehicle - they don't want to pay that out - even telling me I lie and do not know what I bought - I even let the dealer send Santam emails and invoices of extras that I put on my vehicle - but still they don't want to pay as they say it is standard on my vehicle - Really... isn't there anybody or place in Namibia where I can go to settle this ? Why must I specify extras to be insured on my vehicle and then they don't pay it out ?They accepted it as extras on my policy but now say it is not extras and don't want to pay the extras out, or don't want me to take the extras back (off my vehicle). I really need this solved - been at Santam for more then 3 years - this was my first vehicle claim. Not used to such bad service from brokers or Santam !
Admin clerk - janet dodds
How dare a admin clerk tell me I am a @#[protected]@ when she is sitting in my office. Well I guess Santam is rolling in cash, that why they swear at Brokers who gives them business. Definitely taking my book away from Santam. Thank you Janet Dodds - Bloemfontein Santam Branch for showing me Santam's true colors. Bethlehem will never do Santam Business again if I can help it.
Short term insurance policy
In March 2015 I requested a quote from Santam as I was terminating my insurance with the then service provider. After discussion of the different sections to be included a quote was forwarded to. I accepted the quote with a request that it should be implemented at the end of may. Recently I discovered that there was not money paid over to Santam. As all my accounts are paid by debit order and go off on the same date, I did not inspect the bundle indicating the deductions. When I noticed the absence of the Santam debit, I contacted Santam to inquire about the situation. This morning I received an email stating that the policy was cancelled due to the fact that the bank account number was incorrect. I have not received any notice of the cancellation of the policy. Up to now My car and home, therefore, was not insured and I would have been responsible for all damage should it have occurred. In my view this is real bad client support from a business like Santam. I think that the situation should be looked into and the outcome reported to me.
Delay in service
First, I purchased a brand new 2013 Polo Vivo 1, 4 Hatch on the 16th of Jan 2013. I then proceeded to insure the vehicle with Santam along with the other vehicles which I owned via telephone and email correspondence because i travel frequently. On number occasions I inquired as to whether or not all the details were in order to which the broker replied that it was. Two months later on 16th March 2013 my new vehicle was stolen from my house and when i proceeded to submit a claim I was told that the the vehicle had in fact not been insured because the broker forgot to enter a few of the vehicle's details. However, the other vehicles and items were all detailed and fully insured but the stolen one just happened to mysteriously be undocumented. I then laid a complaint and requested that telephone recording be examined to prove that I had provided all the necessary details from my side, to which Santam and the brokers said they were unable to do because they did not have such mechanisms in place. I have since not been helped by anyone at Santam or their affiliated brokers, Farelo and Associates.
I am now left to drive my old 2005 VW Citi Golf which frequently breaks down. I use the Santam roadside assist but for the past three occasions the towing vehicle has had me waiting for 3 hours. An emergency service ought to provide support in an emergency situation except I was told by the associated towing company Gardens Towing to be "patient"as they would be there in the next 30mins, they in fact arrived over an hour later with attitude.
First, brokers needed proper training and need to pay attention to details as they are dealign with lives and other people's money. Second, an emergency service cannot be delayed to such proportions. The service from Santam has always lacked. Not once have I been dealt with effectively and with care. I would not recommend it to anyone who is serious about insurance.
Bad Service
My husband was involved in a vehicle accident around the 23 06 2014. We were told from the client witch jumped a stop street that her broker will sort out the claim details on behalf of just to find out a month and a half after the accident that nobody put in a 3rd party claim for us and only his client details was on Santam system.we were advised to submit our claim directly to Santam as we did and are being
screwed all over by the assessor Mr Saghwee Albertyn who is waiting for scetches from their client broker witch they don't have because she never reported the case and our paperwork is already in Cape Town and their is no why they are getting the paperwork or having something done to the matter as her vehicle still drives and ours a right off.we don't know who to turn to as nobody is coming back to us regarding the case and its been 4 month now that we are with out a vehicle.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
3 weeks passed and no refund
I cancelled my insurance policy on the 2nd March already and to date have not received my refund on the collected premium. I have tried following this up and was met with a different excuse everytime. From 'it has been requested' to 'it will be paid out after the 19th' and finally today to ' it has been diarised and will be paid out after 30 days'. The reason for the lenghty amount of time (apart from collecting interest on my money) is that maybe i would have reversed the payment so they need to see it reflect in their account for a full month and then refund. My issue is, if my policy is cancelled and I no longer enjoy cover with Santam, then why keep my money? Should anything happen you would never pay out?
The worst client service I experienced
My car was written off on the 5'th of February. I phoned my broker, which is David @ Rochlin Insurance Brokers. He informed me that an assessor has been appointed and will go out on the 8'th of Feb and will take it from there. I was informed by both my broker and Santam that the only thing that I need to do, is get a settlement letter from the bank. They informed me that they will do the rest, re. get registration docs ect. I forward the settlement letter on the 11'th of Feb to my broker. 2 weeks passed and nothing happened. I had to phone to get feedback.
I was informed by an employer at the Santam salvage dept. that they were waiting for the assessor, being Collen Thuma, to send his request and then they will request settlement. This only happened after I got a copy of the registration document from the bank. It took another 2 days for the Collen to send his report. My claim was only settled on Tue the 9'th of March. This normally takes 2 weeks.
Santam should really work on their client service and I think they should explain to their staff more clearly how to sort out a claim. It seems to difficult for them to understand!
I agree santam is the worst insurance you could pick. Very eager to receive your payments but very very good to dig for excuses not to pay out your claim. And rejected you if they think your claims are a little to much. Like lizette jacobs said " your claims can not extent your payments" what happened to a insurance don't they are about to protect you.
my car stands for from 27/08/2012 and nothing has been done to it i am mnr cf jordaan claim no santam no [protected] my sel no is [protected] if any body cares call me
Insurance companies are happy to take your monthly payment but not so happy to pay when there's a claim
I will start with an old clichè. 'Insurance companies are happy to take your monthly payment but not so happy to pay when there's a claim.' I had a burst pipe causing massive flood water damage to my house and pool. I put in a claim as I am covered according to my policy. An atheist engineer was sent out who gave a crooked report ignoring all the factual evidence, claiming that the water flow under my house had appeared over 'eons'. Has this man been around for 'eons'.
An assessor at Santam changed an agreement of loss after it was signed and returned. Would like to know if this is allowed?
Assuming someone's personal beliefs affect your situation is about as arrogant as you can get. How typical.
