Charged money for being broke
I'm so upset with protea metering, this company only makes money by scamming people out of their money. I recently moved in to a new place and needed to put the water in my name, protea metering asked me to pay a deposit of r1030 which I did even though I did not have the money I proceeded to borrow the cash to make the payment. I then received a letter to pay the water bill which was r381, I paid it in full.
After a couple of day's I received a e-mail stating payment was made a couple of day's late and I was fined another r900 for reconnection fee (which they never did because they never disconnected it) plus added some other penalties.
So basically my bill this month is from r0 - r1800 in one month.
I was warned that protea metering are the worst and now I know why.
They basically charged me money for beying broke!
I went to their office and was told to just pay the fines because my water usage is only around +- r300.
How can they charge me when I tried my best to make sure the bill's are paid in full?
Every time they see you pay in full they will find something else to fine you with.
So they expect me to find an ex amount of r1400 extra on my bill just because I paid them 2 or 3 days late
Desired outcome: for them to withdraw all their additional charges

Protea Metering is not forthcoming company at all. I moved to new flat and paid all my money as deposit, I had no money left to pay electric bill so I called Protea and explained them my situation. Instead of giving me couple of week time they’ve disconnected electricity straight away. I’m very disappointed.
