OLDTWR.COM Sell Sick and Defective Puppies

I purchased a puppy through puppyfind from Paul and Cheryl Howard on November 14, 2010. The advertised puppy was from their dog breeding company, old tumble weed ranch. They advertise that they breed a small amount of puppies, that live inside their home. I paid $1, 664.00 for a puppy they advertised as healthy, having registration papers, and 5 months old. I paid through paypal with my credit card.

When I picked up the puppy from the airport, it looked nothing like the pictures. He was dirty, ears were filthy, and much bigger than the picture. I knew something was not right immediately, so I called my vet on the way home from the airport and had him seen that very day. The vet said that he thought he had an ear infection and gave him antibiotic drops. He also found that he had a severe overbite, and wry bite, causing his lower K9 tooth to puncture his soft pallet on the roof of his mouth. He had a hole on the roof of his mouth that kept getting pierced with every bite my puppy took. My vet was concerned that the breeder and breeders vet didn't catch this, because checking a dogs bite is a pretty standard practice when examining a dog. The vet said that this was something that needed to be fixed, otherwise my puppy could get an infection and that could lead to more serious problems. He quoted me approx. $500.00 to have this repair made.

I notified the Howards immediately and they acted like they didn't know how they could have missed it. I asked them for a partial refund to cover the cost of the repair, since it was their negligence and it was never disclosed to me before I purchased the puppy, and Paul flat out said NO! What he did offer was an exchange puppy, but I had to pay $300.00 to fly the puppy I already received back to him. He didn't have a puppy that was comparable in size that he would do an even exchange for, instead he wanted me to pay an additional $500.00 for a puppy of the same breed and size, he originally was going to sell me for the same price as the puppy I picked out ( I was debating between a boy and girl of the same size, breed and price before deciding on the little boy.)

I started doing some research on the internet and found that I wasn't the only one who had experienced this with the Howards. Why didn't I find this before I purchased?! After reading about all the sick dogs the howards have sold, I wasn't about to do an exchange! Who knows what I would get next?

I should also mention that the health certificate is a FAKE! It is a copy that has been altered with white out to match the description of the puppy I received. On the bottom of the certificate it says that the "pink" copy is supposed to go to me (buyer) and the yellow copy stays with seller and original is the Vets. I didn't get any of those. It was a copy and it definitely had been tampered with. I am shocked that the airline would even accept it. ...and let's not forget the registration papers that were advertised, and paid for, but never received!

**Moral of this story...The Howards run a puppymill! They don't take care of their animals or customers. They are dishonest and they are building quite a "rap sheet" with all the sick puppies they have sold to people across the country. I can only hope that the next person who finds a cute picture of a puppy online finds this before they give their money to these horrible people. They have had several websites and will shut one down and open another one when they need a "clean name." This was a LESSON LEARNED on my part. The next time I want a pet for my family, I am going to my local animal shelter
. I am sick that I supported a Puppymill. :(

Matt, I am only one of the many people that now have a beautiful, well bred (champion lined), baby running through the house. This pup is so entertaining! I couldn't imagine my life without him now. He is a true blessing. Thanks to you for your website that allowed me to find that breeder. You have a great weekend, too.

Matt, You do a great service to people that are looking for that special pup. I got mine off of your website, and am thrilled with him. He has great bloodlines and is my little baby dog. Oh, and no sickness or problems of any kind. I have talked to another that got a pup from Puppyfind, and she is as thrilled as I am with hers. Thank you for your website.

Greetings,

My name is Matt and I'm the Relationship Manager with Puppyfind.com. As our name was mentioned at the beginning of this complaint, I feel it necessary to leave a comment concerning our connection to both parties involved in this complaint.

To start with, the breeder mentioned in this complaint has not been active on Puppyfind.com since 2010. It appears they have had issues with other members, and have not come back to use our services for some time now.

Oftentimes when individuals mention Puppyfind.com in a complaint such as this one, it is the immediate assumption that our company had a direct involvement and connection to the parties involved. While it is true that our website was created to bring dog breeders and buyers together, Puppyfind.com does not take part in the actual sales of the dogs shown on our website. We do not actively endorse any specific members that come to our services, nor do we participate in any agreements or contracts made between individuals who decide, on their own accord, to deal with each other. Furthermore, Puppyfind.com does not participate in the exchange of any funds for the dogs advertised on our site, or the transportation of any dogs that are sold while advertised on our website. In short, Puppyfind.com is simply a meeting place for people to come together, and all who come to our site do so of their own volition.

Our Terms of Service (TOS) state that we do not pre-screen members. Due to the nature of our website, we cannot be held liable for any direct, indirect, special, consequential or exemplary damages, including but not limited to, damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data or other intangible losses. Our full TOS can be viewed by going to Puppyfind.com and clicking on the TOS link at the bottom of the home page.

While it must be acknowledged that the complainant does not hold Puppyfind.com responsible for what has taken place between themselves and the dog breeder, I must also acknowledge that it is these types of complaints that cause many people to assume our company somehow endorses either party involved and the actions taken by either party. Puppyfind.com does not condone any type of activity that violates our TOS, and will remove members found to be in violation of our TOS and the law at large.

At Puppyfind.com, we care about our members, and it is our hope that all who come to our service will do the best to equip themselves with the proper tools before going into any transactions with other members. We provide Buyers Tips for people interested in purchasing a dog online, our TOS is available for all to read if any questions or concerns are had regarding our services, and members have the power to report any suspicious activity with the touch of a button. It is our hope that these tools, coupled with common sense, will provide all of our members an enjoyable experience while visiting Puppyfind.com.

Thank you for your time,

Matt

Zach, again you are calling a kennel that you don't know a puppymill, just for being located in a certain state (Oklahoma, this time). I am beginning to think that you are just an elitest holier-than-thou hypocrite who thinks his dogs' feces don't stink, but everyone else's does. Just what state is it that you live in that is so perfect and has only perfect breeders who don't breed for money (although they sure charge money for their dogs)?

zachary s, i thought you went to a show breeder that you knew. the shelter is full of discarded animals for one reason or another. you may find a good one once in awhile, but your chances just went downhill from the internet. i have the 'best pup in the world' (not being one sided of course.) i had the best experience online. i went to a shelter and the dogs were in damp little cages, it stunk, and the dogs were shaking. i felt sorry for them. i wish i could have helped them all. knowing that at the end of the week they would be killed. i thought that if i took one home, i may have endless problems. they didn't look healthy and what kind of mental problems could come of it? i hated that they were in a slaughter house, but humane is probably the correct term there. if you went looking for a horse, would you go to the slaughter house? i wish you the best on finding a family 'jewel', we all deserve one. i got mine and i hope you get yours. all the best to you. i am sure that there is one out there just for you.

OLDTWR.COM SELL SICK DOGS

found a breeder on Puppyfind.com that sells maltese tea cups. They keep changing their website names and aliases to continue selling sick dogs.
11-20-09 I purchased a female maltese pup from a Paul and Cheryl Howard from Claremore, Oklahoma, website
http://www.pupeluv.com or http://okieteacups.com or oldtwr.com.
I live in NYC. The puppy arrived sick with what I thought to be Kennel Cough as this is my second dog and am familiriar with the symptoms. She was also scratching one of her ears a lot and upon
inspection I found that the ear was filled with brown gunk compared to the
other ear which was completely clean. I notified the breeder immediately
that same afternoon when the dog arrived. Per the breeders contract I took
the puppy to the Vet the next day. The Vet found the dog to have kennel
cough, ear mites, hernia, medial patella luxation of her back leg. Breeders
contract does not cover costs associated with kennel cough (which is
understandable as most puppies catch it when they are little). However, his
contract did not cover the ear mites either and anything beyond that which
is congenital I would have to return the dog via american airlines paying
out of my own pocket (roughly another $300). I had the Vet provide medical
bills (to date it is now up to $500) in writing and also
his findings which I promply provided to the breeder the next day when I
took the pup for the check-up. In turn the breeder wanted me to ship the
sick puppy right away. Not only would I have put the dogs life in danger
because of her grave state but by law american airlines prohibits the
shipment of sick animals.
The breeder told me to just use the health certificate that the dog came
with and AA would never know the dog is sick as its valid for 30 days. His
contract does not provide refunds, only replacements so I would ship the dog
back and hope that he replaces the pup with one that is not sick or with
congenital problems. Breeder was in breach of contract as the dog is not
healthy as he promised. I flipped out telling him what morals as a breeder
does he have to even suggest putting a sick animal through such an ordeal
and only then he said well then wait till she gets better and then send her
back for a replacement. It took him 3 days to open the medical bills and
statement from the Vet that I emailed him and then started claiming that
American Airlines switched the puppies. He said the pup could not possibly
be what he sent me. 3rd day he also remembered to tell me that the dog he
sent me has a microchip. The contract I signed did not include a microchip
in the puppy. Nor did I pay extra for microchipping. He provided a chip
number and told me to run to the vet and scan my dog and if the chip is not
in the dog then its not the one he sent me. So like an idiot I ran to the
vet. The dog did not have a chip but the vet took the chip number down that
the breeder provided and contacted the manufacturer only to find out the
breeder gave me a false/fake chip number. I was promised an ACA registration
with the dog and did not get that either. I told him if the dog is
microchipped then where is the chip registration papers? He told me they
don't normally provide that documentation. Did not receive ACA registration
either which was part of what I was suppose to get per the contract. To date
I have not received any of the papers for my dog. BUYER BEWARE DONT BUY FROM THESE CROOKS!
