Republic Services Garbage Company review: I will pay republic $37.01 and they will not contact me further.

I am writing in regard to Republic Services. I was a customer until recently. The bills I received kept increasing, so I checked into other trash removal companies. I found a company for a substantially lower cost and contacted Republic to cancel the account. This was in early April 2022.

The lady I spoke to, Kris, informed me that she would cancel my account as of April 1. Republic did pick up one time, the first week in April. She said that there would be a $30 fee for Republic to pick up the trash can, or I could return it to their Jenison office for no charge. I asked her to arrange for them to pick it up, which they did.

Subsequently, Republic has sent me a bill for $137.78 This includes the entire $84.13 for the period from April - June, which was cancelled and they are not going to be picking up. They also charged for the $30 container removal fee AS WELL AS $23.65 IN ADMINISTRATIVE AND FUEL/ENVIRONMENTAL RECOVERY FEES added to the $30. This extra $23.65 had not been disclosed to me.

How is a company allowed to charge you for business you did not conduct with them? By my math, I owe Republic Services $30 for container removal and $7.01 for ONE garbage pick up in April prior to the account being cancelled. I have written a check to Republic in that amount.

I have documentation for all of the billing described in this letter. I appreciate your attention to this matter.
