Dr Dean Adel (doctor and radio host) said on his radio show that this whole notion that you need to clean your colon is NOT NECESSARY. He said that thousands of colonscopies are performed every year in the USA and all they see are healthy colons. Can I sell you some beach front property in Idaho?

Wow. Maybe stick with Maytag next time. If you believe their commercials, the Maytag repairman is bored with nothing to do because their products don't break down.
I don't know anything about your specific problem, but whenever a hear "lawyer" and "$2, 500 retainer" I run for the hills. That's like opening your bank account to let them be the judge and jury to decide how much they pay themselves. ALWAYS pay lawyers by the hour and ask them UP FRONT "How much is this going to cost me?" Ask them for EACH INDIVIDUAL TASK that they propose to do. Otherwise they will bill up the @**! Beware of lawyers!
What are you PAYING for anti-virus software for? It's free! Everyone is using Avast FREE Home edition now. PC Magazine says that it's just as good as the paid products. All you have to do is register Avast, they send you a product ID number, you enter it, and then it works for a year, then you re-register it for free. Or use Microsoft's free software that will be released soon.
In California these people have to be licensed. Look for a state appliance repair website (for your state) that issues licenses and monitors complaints.
