I have had my credit card since 2004, I have never had a line increase and I have paid a membership fee for 16 years. I called last year to ask to have the yearly fee waived and was flat out told no, I asked to speak to a manager and was also told no. I then called back a few days later and spoke with someone who was able to upgrade my account to one that was supposed to have at least cash back and no annual fee. Today I logged into my account and saw a fee for my credit card, this card has not been used since 2016, it is absolutely absurd that I should be paying an annual membership fee after 16 years loyalty via my credit card and checking and savings. I called customer service today and was told they have no record of that call and there was nothing they could do to help me. So, during covid and with all the years I have been with capital one, no one is willing to bend slightly. I asked the rep to cancel the card and she had to transfer me to someone else, this was a cold switch so I had to again explain myself and then be told no again. She started to close my credit card and magically the call got disconnected and of course no one called me back. I actually work for a very large competitor and at this point I think I will be switching everything over, not just because I would be covered as an employee but because capital one clearly has no interest in keeping long term customers.
To sum up, I have had this card for 16 years and never had a line increase, the limit to this card being 1800 is completely useless as every one of my other credit cards have at least 8000 and at max 26000. They all provide adequate rewards programs; my line of credit is increased almost every year and no annual membership fees. If someone can’t get back to me to save customer soon, I am just closing it up and moving one. I never ask for anything from this banking institutions and I'm realizing capital one is nothing but a toxic relationship.
