I did a criminal check on someone I was going to hire. www.privateeye.com promises a lot, takes your money and gives you nothing. They show marvelous samples of the info you are going to receive. When the requested info comes up, there are "no details". I was charged $45.90 for "no records found" even though he man I was searching is on probabation and admitted it. He even gave me his probation number. He has been at his same address for 7 years so he shouldn't have been hard to find. No records found in this marvelous database of this "private eye company?" There is a small print disclaimer which states that any info is chargeable info, which means that if you put in the name of John Smith and they find a John Smith, they have earned your money. Writing to complain only got me "you should have read the small print". In my opinion, this is a very fraudulent company. Also, immediately after going on their site I received lots of porn email which is "mandatory" in order to get these "detailed records". What a bunch of slimeballs. Wach out folks. I walked right into that one then found http://consumer-guide.to/People.Searches/. A $45.90 lesson.

I paid $9.95 via credit card for a one-time address location and phone number search. The password I registered would not work-only came up as "failed authentication". I'll try to get my $.95 back through my credit card company. Stay away from these fraud artists!

I just paid you to do a search on an individual. You did not have his current address (where he has been for over four months), his most recent divorce, information regarding his children (not even their names), his credit status nor information regarding his finances. The information you provided was not worth the $39.95 I paid you.

I would not pay ANY so called company for an on-line criminal check because it is not possible.

In Arizona a CCH is available ONLY to law enforcement personnel, courts and the like.

As for Howard who says you can get records free via the net, you can get onlyLIMITED records.

Your best bet is to do your own physical search at the Court House of jurisdiction, assuming you live in the same town as the person you are checking.

Forget getting records out of California. Even when you go out there and do a physical search, it's a lot of money.

Why would you pay for a criminal check on a person? That is all public record, the vast majority of the time you can get the records via the net at the municipality’s web site for free.
