I live in a big city of MP and I will tell you how big a fraud, scamster the shopping website Pepperfry is. So that you can avoid the mistake done by me.
In the past few years, many new e-commerce companies have cropped up like mushrooms to take advantage of e-commerce boom. One such new website is Peppery.com.
Sometime back, thanks to programs like CNBC Pehredar, the whole country came to know how Timtara.com has been cheating and harassing customers by neither giving a refund nor delivering the ordered product.
In my case, something similar happened to me. However, the website this time in question was Pepperfry.com – the website which only knows how to make false promises, how NOT to ship the product even in a month, sent wrong, defective and used items – and that too to the wrong destination, and of course how not to refund the money despite failing to deliver the product and despite the threat of taking action by the consumer.
Friends, I am a shopaholic person. I have been shopping online for 8 years and this is the first time I have become a victim of fraud, scamming etc. by a shopping website (Pepperfry). I have bought products online from so many websites, but never before I met such dishonest, liers, scammers like Pepperfry.com.
Perhaps the mistake was mine that I fell in their trap of “huge” discount!! A friend of mine told me that he has a coupon of a website called Pepperfry.com, which is giving a discount of 450 rupees on the shopping of items worth 950 rupees. I visited the website and checked its credentials and got hoodwinked by their modern and appealing look and the trust-able looking “about me” section of the website.
So I used the 450 rupees discount coupon for shopping and ordered 3 products worth 1000 from the Pepperfry.com on the 8th of September. They say on their website that they ship products within 7 days, in my case it took them 10 days, and a lot of phone calls to their customer care, just to get the first product shipped. They ship each products separately, not in one parcel. This first item took six days to reach me. They shipped the second on the 14th day of ordering and the third on the 18th day of ordering.
Two of my products reached to me somehow, perhaps to god’s grace ( Later, both these items stopped working). But the third item, never. Because the courier of fraud Pepperfry, Quantium, sent it to Chennai, whereas I lived in Madhya Pradesh. The courier company returned the item back to the shipper in seven days. They NEVER informed me where my third product is, why it is getting delayed etc. They kept telling my new excuses, and that I will get my ordered product in some days. When I began to suspect that something is wrong, I used the tracking number provided with that order, I found that it has been wrongly shipped to Chennai and that is why they are not replying properly.
Whenever I called their customer care for inquiry, I got a standard reply “your issue has been escalated”. Escalated, the unwashed ### of a pig. Huh. I wrote them email after emails, but no reply.
When I threatened to take action – like writing to CNBC Pehredaar to expose them, like Timtara.com has been exposed – they buckled and replied “we can give you a refund, if you want”. I had no option but to accept it. They were not refunding full money, but half, but I still agreed to it.
Since then to till now, a whole month has passed since I ordered the product, a week since they refunded the money, but I have NOT received the money in my bank account. They keep giving me reference number of the transaction etc. but are NOT ready to send me the proof of refund through email.
I wrote about this matter to CNBC Pehredar and other such programs which fight for consumer rights. Their response has been positive, they found my story credible on the basis of evidences I gave to them. But they told me they are already working on some big stories and their plate is full right now. So, regretfully, because of the complaint backlog, I have to wait for 15 days at least. In the meanwhile, they ask me to be in touch with Pepperfry and ask me to collect as much evidence I can to nail and expose them.
I have also contacted Ministry of Consumer affairs’ website to know how the action can be taken against Pepperfry. I will keep the conversation between me and the Consumer ministry’s website confidential for now.
I am still waiting for the refund confirmation email and the refund money in my bank account. And, yes, also for my turn to expose them on the Pehredar program.
Folks, the refund money involved is NOT big. Intention behind writing his long story is to warn you about this pharji website called Pepperfry. I am a genuine victim of their forgery, no one has time to write at length.. If there was no privacy issue, I would have also given my order and tracking number here.
