PC Protect Never Ordered It

My Verizon long distance bill seemed high, so I checked it. There was a charge of $19.95 on it for "PC Protect". Total with tax was $20.05. I called Verizon and they said it was an outside company they have no control over! They refunded the cost to my bill, they said. Just wonder if this will show up next month. This should be pursued criminally!

I've been charged for a $19.95 monthly fee for a anti-virus protection I did not agree too. I have called them today and I'm waiting for a call back.

The same thing happened to me, I'm in Ellicott City Maryland and have Verizon Fios. Verizon told me it's not their problem. I then called the number attached to the Verizon Bill and hinted at a law suit against them. They refunded me six months worth of billing. (Yet to be seen). I was told someone clicked on an ad on the internet which caused this. I'm shocked that a company as big as Verizon has to resort to scams to get extra money from customers. To be continued... I found these specious charges on my phone bill too. I called the number for PC Protect that was on my phone bill and without hesitation they issued a credit for last month and the charge that they said would be appearing on my next bill. I'm guessing that they've been getting really hammared, because the rep I talked to sounded like a beat dog. He offered all of the refunds before I could even finish my rant on how I'm an IT professional and would have never ordered this useless piece of crap service. :)

After reading some of the posts here, I decided to call Verizon and get to the bottom of it. Evidently, Verizon is compelled by law to allow this type of 3rd party billing by the state BPU. The only way around it is the phone customer has to call their provider and proactively request a block on 3rd party billing...it doesn't cost anything. Another benefit of calling Verizon: the rep advised me that there was a calling bundle available that I could switch to, save $28.00 a month, and not change one single service that I currently have. The only catch was that I have to stay with Verizon for 1 year. Big whoop...I've been with them for over 20 years, first as NJ Bell then Bell Atlantic and then Verizon.

I discovered this and complained. They insisted that my wife had ordered it "because she used her e-mail address". I told her that we didnt even have Verizon as our internet provider (we have Comcast) so why would be subscribe to something like this? At $19.95 a month - even if we wanted it - it is rediculously overpriced.!
IT IS A SCAM. COMPLETELY BLATANT. Verizon is truly an unethical company. It is very sad to see. I had a similar thing at the office. A phone call to the UK was billed at $245! It should have cost $5. They said that they "forgot" to add one of the lines to the World Plan. This is about the 5th time in 5 years that Verizon has been scamming me. I have decided to change all my phone and internet to Comcast. Home and office. I will be urging my friends to do the same. At some point Verizon needs to know that being "big" is no longer enough to get away with anything they want. Remember Lehman Brothers? Enron? They all started by conning their clients. Unethical behaviour is like a cancer. Once it is in the company it grows and eventually kills. RIP Verizon.

I had the same problem with PC Protect and Verizon. The charge appeared on my Verizon bill, I called and was given the number to "Billing Resource", which gave me the number to PC Protect. They said they would cancel the "service", but insisted repeatedly that I, or someone who had access to my account, had signed up for it. Which is not the case - no way, no how. When I told her that my computer was probably better protected than hers, and I didn't need such services, she tried to sell me virus protection. (Like I don't have it?) When I said no-one had signed up for it, she said I was entitled to my opinion.

We'll see if they cancel it.

this happened to me ..they told me they started taking 19.95 from my account since July 2009...i and just found it in Jan 2010got suspicious when my husband found out he was being ripped off on a credit card .At least the credit card co.had the decency to alert him and remove all charges. P.C .Protect Inc.had the audacity to lie and tell me I had been sent an email that I agreed to this service.I had no reason to since my computer was equipped with anti virus protection so why in the hell would i use my phone service to get virus protection for my computer. That little jerk "David " (I really hope he gets to read this!) at P.C.
kept saying "yes you did"yes you did". I seriously thought I was going to have a stroke! The phone service, Century Link which was previously Em Barq, was just as bad.I would never agree to any third party bull crap! The manager said he could not refund my money..I canceled the service and they did remove $58.and it was only after I called and told them I was having their service terminated. What about the rest of the money they ripped off from me? from July 2009 to Dec 2009..
Why doesn't the FCC monitor these rip OFF hacker scam artists companies? I am ready to get rid of all the technical crap and go live in the country, if I need to make a call I'll just climb a telephone pole like Mr Douglas used to do on Green Acres!
My blood pressure is still up from that incident.

I've been on the phone with Verizon about the same scam for three months now. I'm honestly so upset I can't even explain the 3-month long mess. Life is hard enough as it is. I hope they go out of business, and that all of the rude, horrible customer services reps end up on the street WITHOUT PHONES.

Happened on my Embarq home phone bill with PC Protect and another company Talent and More, two charges, never ordered, spoke with billing company for both, spoke to customer service at each company, said charges would be refunded, PC Protect didn't even have my name on the order - someone elses name, said the person who ordered it must have a similar phone number to mine. Had Embarq place a third party block on my home phone land line. Asked the customer service people at PC Protect how this can happen with just a phone number and no credit card, they that is the way it works. So much greed out there.

Got me too. I didn't even click on anything...I know better. They had an old Yahoo email and the wrong birthdate listed. These people are fraudulent ###. Oh and when you call them, prepare to get angry...they are nasty.

What bothers me most is that this can happen in the first place...it should be ilegal to do this. Verizon should notify you before adding anything to your bill.

PC Protect Antivirus Fraud

I am writing as a transaction recently went through my account WWW.WITABET.COM for £32.25, I was tricked into making this transaction and as soon as I realised this was the case I cancelled my card on the 05/09/09 straight afterward, although I did put my details into a webpage the page looked to be legal, there was a 'pc protect' program that installed itself on my computer and disabled my 2 other antivirus programs, AVG and Super Anti Spyware program and it also got by my ZoneAlarm, it worked by adding itself to my system and installing 5 Trojan Horse virus, it said it had quarantined them and it then gave continuous pop ups.

It linked to a web page that insisted I give my card details to buy the antivirus software, at this point it gave me a registration number but the computer continually restarted itself and the viruses would stay and the internet stopped working, luckily the Super Anti Spyware started in Safe Mode and found that the PC Protect software was spying on files and that is when I realised that it was a set-up to buy the software and I had concerns over my card.

I then cancelled the card within 2 hours to try and stop the transaction the software has dissapeared off my computer so I am just left with a serial number and no record of anything else, my email is [protected]@hotmail.com. I have informed my bank and the fraud department are looking at this.

Please let me know the situation,
Karin Thain

When is it ever a good idea to put your credit card number into a site you don't know?
