When there is a lapse in insurance coverage, the DMV will charge you a fine of $50 per vehicle, even when the vehicles are all on the same policy. If that fine is not paid in a certain number of days, the fine doubles. When there are multiple vehicles on one policy that adds up. If a person has a lapse, it is because they are having financial issue...

North Carolina DMV overcharged renewing motor vehicle registration

When I applied on line to re auto registration, amount should have been 58.29 plus 3.00 fee. When I submitted it total came to 76.25. Called north carolina dmv was told I was hacked by a third party. Yet I was only on north carolina web site. Now I am out 15.00 called department of motor vehicle on same day 7/26/2019. Phone number 919 814 1779 was told nothing could be done. Yet it is their web site. When you hit submit, you review your info then, you are asked again to submit, and the total chare comes up 76.25 and you cannot back out
