My name is Ebenezer Ylonfoun. I came to Monro Muffler for car A/C checkup and cost estimation, today, August, 9th 2022 by 9:10am

As I am having an issue with my car A/C that blows hot air when it is turned on, I called Monro Muffler Indiana PA services on Aug 8th 2022 and made an appointment for a checkup. As I described the A/C issue with my car, I was told by the agent that I should bring the car over for a checkup and cost estimation. Appointment was scheduled for Aug 9th at 9am. Once I got to the office desk, I met agent Gary Williams who said the very first thing that needs to be done was a leaking test as required by federal law. I was told the leaking test charge is $40 without taxes. The leaking test has been performed and it passed and agent Gary suggested to recharge the freon. I asked him the cost of it and he told me it’d cost about $127 with tax included.

As we previously agreed on estimation, I didn’t bring that amount of money. I even suggested to take the car and go bring the money. When I suggested to take the car to go get the money and come back, he said “If you take the car out and come back, I will have to redo the leaking test and I will charge you a second time.

Actually, before we start, I was not told that after the leaking test I should automatically do the recharge. If I was told that, I would’ve had an idea of the total charge. As I was talking to agent Gary he got angry, became rude to me and left the office desk saying: “I’m not gonna waste my time with you, I’ll disconnect the cables and close your vehicle.”

Since I noticed that he was getting angry, I told him to do the recharge, and I’ll manage to pay the cost of it when he said he’s not working on my car anymore.

He went into the garage, disconnected the cables, closed the car and came back to the office desk and said I should pay for the leaking test. I replied: “I can’t pay for the leaking test only I you should redo it when I come back today. Please, do the recharge so I can pay for everything altogether; otherwise I’d have to redo the same service elsewhere, which is a waste of money.

Agent Gary said “So you said you’re not gonna pay”; “I’m gonna seize the car and I’m gonna call the police”. As I was tried to talk to him, he did not want to listen to me and he immediately grabbed the phone and called the police who came and intervened. After the police listened to each of us, the police officer talked to Mr Gary privately and suggested him to do the refill but Gary refused. Thereafter, I was advised by the police officer to pay the leaking test charges and take my car since Gary refused to continue working on my car. The police said that there was nothing else he could do since this was not a criminal matter but a civil one. Consequently, I paid $44.47 for the leaking test charges taxes included.

While I was paying he said “You’re not gonna come here anymore”

I was very humilliated and frustrated by Gary Williams who failed to inform me about the whole process and the cost of it in the beginning, who burst into anger, became rude to clients like me and could not patiently communicate with clients, but called police for them.

Ebenezer Ylonfoun.-
