Medallion Corp. Buildings review: "People who live here generally don't work" Unbelievable.

A very short time ago my long term boyfriend and I were looking to rent our first apartment together. Having heard good things about the cleanliness in the building, etc. I decided to give Medallion a try.

I had to send four emails, and leave voice mails daily (when the mailbox wasn't full) for about two weeks before someone from admin finally called me back.

I forget her name, but the short conversation is very memorable.

When I asked her if any apartments were available, she said no.
When I asked to be put on a wait list, she refused.
She said, you have to come in and fill out an application before we will even take your seriously.
I said, okay great. When can I come?
She said, Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00.

Now, my boyfriend and I are among the other large percent of people in Toronto who work Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00, so I politely asked if there was a way to leave the application with a superintendent, or to send it by email and I could submit it that way.

The response was "No. You both have to come in together to apply, and then we will see if anything is available for you. How much money do you make combined?"

Okay fine. I told her how much we make, and I explained that it is very difficult for us to take time off work, as our jobs are very demanding and I thought it was a little crazy that we both would have to take time off to just apply to live somewhere.

Her last words "Well Mam, people who live here generally don't work, you'll just have to figure it out".

Yes. Medallion is classified as a low-income building. Low income meaning you make less than $40, 000 a year! Now, having done my research, they charge just as much as anywhere else in Scarborough, and their service is absolutely horrible.

I'm happy to say we found a much better apartment, with a way better price, and the landlord goes above and beyond for us. (7 days a week from 07:00 AM - 10:00 PM)

My suggestion is to not rent from Medallion Corp, and I wish you all the luck in the world if you ever try to call or talk to anyone at their location at 555 Birchmount Road.
