We had them clean our chimney in October 2021. Upon cleaning and inspection, we were told there were are few small cracks in our chimney liner. We asked that he provide some options and some quotes to help us decide what direction to go in.
We decided to go with a new liner to be installed. This was in November 2021. The estimate was $2113.02 and he indicated he would need 1/2 down to order the liner. He had me leave him a check in the amount of $1056.50 to pick up at my house. I did so on November 2nd, 2021 which he immediately cashed on November 3rd.
Since that time, we have had spotty communication via email and FB messenger, as well as phone calls. I was patient and tried to understand that it was a busy season. After I had not heard back, I reached out again after the holidays and was given many excuses, as well as him indicating that he was busy due to picking up work from another local business.
I was then told that he would have his father call and set up the install. When that didn't happen, I reached out again, only to be told that he had ordered a number of liners... And they all arrived damaged.
I called in February of this year and indicated that I wanted my money refunded and that I would have the work done at a later date by another company. He agreed to send me the refund via email message and even took a picture of the addressed envelope that supposedly holding the check inside.
Here we are with April beginning tomorrow. He ghosted us on FB, deleted his business page, cancelled his email account and his phone number is no longer in service.
I have filed in small claims court today to get our money returned.
Desired outcome: I have requested a refund and it was promised. but never sent. I filed in small claims court to have it returned to us. I have spoken with a number of other people in 2 other counties that have had this same issue...even on a larger scale.
Hi Linda - we are having a similar issue with McCord Bros Chimney (which apparently went out of business around May 2022. We are owed over $5,100 and the last communication I had with Jeff was that he was meeting with his attorney on 7/18/2022. I don't think that the termination of communication and meeting with his attorney are coincidental.
Did you have any luck getting your deposit refunded? I don't think small claims court works for us because of the amount we are owed.

Hey! I also had a Huge problem with Jeff McCord to the tune of $26,000. We took him to Hector Town Court (small claims) and won. Only $3,015 but better than nothing. The Judge told us that if he took your money and did No Work, you can call your Police Department and they will arrest him and getting your money back is Super easy.
He doesn’t have a lawyer. He admitted that in court, nor is he a Legal Mason.
