I have recently served my business relationship with Lone Star Security and Bruce Boyer. I have found Bruce to be a very dishonest business owner and he engages in suspect business practices. I have been a client of Lone Star for about 8 years. And for the most part, when they didn't have to do anything, they were fine. However, about two years ago the LAPD changed the way they responded to residential security alarm calls. Due to the high rate of false alarm, they said they would no longer respond unless the service gave a emergency alarm. Bruce instructed me to then change my service to have all my alarmed responses to the "emergency" level. Unfortunately this had a very expensive consequence for me. I live in Porter Ranch, where the winds are very heavy. And occasionally the wind blows so hard, it sets of the alarm. In each case the police show up ASAP, without giving me the opportunity to respond to say the call was a false alarm. Once the police arrive and find it is a false alarm, they send you a bill for $200. And each time after that the amount goes up. After this happened 3 or 4 time and cost to be of over $800, I called to talk to Bruce about this. After numerous phone messages, Bruce never returned my call. Instead I was left to speak to a customer service person, who said, “ph well, that’s the way it is. I then decided to cancel my service with Lone Star Security in May of 2008. I called numerous time to tell them to cancel my annual service and that I would not be renewing my service in October of 2008. I would still receive calls from Lone Star Security and continued to tell them to cancel my service. My bill arrived and as I told the company on the phone, I had no intention to renew it. However, It wasn’t until November that Lone Star Security called me to tell me that I needed to cancel my annual service in writing and that because my billing period if October 1st to September 30th, my payment is late and that I am subject to a late payment as well. They told me to pay the total bill, and late payment or they would send me to collections. After speaking to other Lone Star Security clients, I found out that this was a little trick Bruce would play to get paid. I then reported them to the Better Business Bureau and my city councilman. As it turns out good ole Bruce did send me to collections and I am fighting it now.
In the event you are considering getting security services do yourself a favor and DO NOT engage Lone Star Security. It will save you time and money in the future.
