I called the LeafGuard company to get an estimate. They told me over the phone that I needed to consent to a 90-minute appointment to provide the estimate, which I said I would. The representative was on time for the appointment and spent about 45 minutes looking at my roof and gutters, measuring and taking videos to show me problem issues. Then he sat down with me show me the video and to show me all the gutter products from other companies and why they are inferior to LeafGuard gutters. This all took about 90 minutes. Then he showed me the retail price of over $15,000.00 and how he gave me discounts to lower the price to $12,823.80. I told him that I would not make a decision on the spot, and he asked if it was because of the price. I said, "yes" and so he asked me what I expected to pay. I told him about $4500.00 as that was more than twice as much as the estimate I had gotten from my contractor for gutters similar to LeafGuard gutters. He then started bringing the price down and asking if I would accept and sign a contract for those prices. I would not, so he called his manager and brought the price down further to about $8500.00. I continued to say that I would not make a decision on that day. So, he finally asked if I would sign a contract on that day for $4500.00 if I would allow them to place a sign in my yard for a couple of weeks. I said that I would allow a sign in my yard, but I would not sign a contract on that day. He finally gave up and left my house after being there for 2 hours. He said he would send me a contract by email, which he did, and the price was $10,400.23.

In looking at the invoice, I notice that they were going to charge $9,333.10 for installation whereas I have seen ads where they say installation is free. The representative told me that my new gutters would be 140 linear feet, but the invoice is charging $4.03 per linear foot for removal of 175 feet of my old gutters whereas I had already removed over 50 feet of my old gutters. My contractor charges nothing to remove and take away the old gutters. The involce charges for 78 linear feet of downspouts, whereas I will only need 63 linear feet of downspouts. The representative told me that he would give me free drip mold for all of the eaves, but that is not included in the invoice.

My concern is that LeafGuard is apparently willing to inflate their price in hopes that they will get a sale from unsuspecting customers. Then if the potential customer will not pay the inflated price, they will act like they are giving discounts to lower the price. It reminds me of how car dealers used to deal with their customers.
