Lancaster County CYS review: CYS

Lancaster County CYS failed to properly investigate concerns regarding neglect of young children, repeatedly. When asked to appear in family court, they sent their Solicitor (hired utilizing tax dollars) to defend CYS and offer their opinion of “no concern”. Problem is the solicitor is the husband of the CYS Director. It seems he was there to make sure his wife and her incompetent organization were not caught. We now have documentation of the CYS failures and are trying to move forward in a direction that will help the children (as well as identify issues causing the CYS incompetence impacting other children and families in the Commonwealth). In order to save money, CYS Lancaster County utilizes “case workers” vs qualified social workers, which contributes to the problems they are having with simple tasks such as reading, effective communication and appropriate counseling. Their inability to investigate contributes to their inability to address situations of neglect and in turn jeopardizes the health and safety of the children they are required to protect.
