Emailed the woman Deborah McKee about purchasing a Ragdoll kitten. I wanted a specific color/pattern. She told me there was a litter due in February and that I could reserve one. Sent her a $200 deposit to ensure my spot on the waitlist. Months went by, so I emailed her asking if there were any updates. No response. Decided to text her, she said she would take a look at my paperwork and see where we were at. A week went by, she never responded. Texted her again. No response. Basically ignoring me and scammed me out of my deposit. Very disappointed as she was TICA registered, clearly that doesn't mean anything. Hope this helps someone else. Do not do business with this place or woman.

Desired outcome: Review for others

I found out why Debbie was having a hard time communicating over the past year or two. She is now confined to a memory care facility with Alzheimer’s.

This explains a lot. I do not know what happened with the cattery.

Very sad.

The cats and kittens have feline herpes. My kitty born October 2021 has cost me over $5k in veterinary bills. I do love my kitty though. So glad I was the one who purchased, AKA RESCUED, her because I don’t know of many folks that would continue to dump money in the cats health.

Do NOT buy from this breeder. She will tell you proudly that she has been breeding for 25 years, but she has learned nothing in those 25 years - except to raise her prices for inferior cats - and has actually become what most would call a kitten-mill owner. The condition of her cattery is filthy; her business manner is completely unprofessional and she needs to STOP breeding immediately.

I have also had a bad experience with Deborah and would not recommend her to anyone. She is a horrible communicator, you have to reach out first to ask if the cat is pregnant, kittens have been born, how they're doing, what their patterns are, etc. Deborah Mckee is a breeder who does NOT care AT ALL. She originally told me she'd keep the kitten until the end of the month then changed her mind and said every week after he's 8 weeks old she would charge me extra. Because of this, my kitten was seperated from his mother very early. They are supposed to stay at least 11 weeks. I wondered why she would do this but after I picked him up I knew why. When I went to pick him up his meows were weak sounding. He was a very, very sick kitten and Deborah wanted to get him off her hands so that she wouldn't have to take care of him. He kept sneezing and sneezing and when I asked her about it she kept playing it off as something that happens. Long story short I ended up paying half his price in vet bills ($600) just a few weeks after having him.

Not only is she a horrible communicator who separated a sick kitten from his mother, but they are also not very good examples of ragdolls. Like the person above commented, my cat does not have good behavior at all. He bites and scratches even after training, he doesn't sit still for long, often gets up when you pet him, and does not like sitting on your lap. He is still social as he likes being in the same room as you but prefers not to make direct contact with you. Despite this I still love my cat the way he is, he is very playful, beautiful, and sweet but its just not what you pay for when you buy a ragdoll. I recommend you find any other breeder, a breeder who cares and doesn't just want money. There are breeders out there who will update you every step of the way, include food and toys with your purchase, and give you advice on taking care of your cat. Deborah is not one of them.

I am also having issues with Deborah McKee. I purchased a kitten from her in 2020. A deposit was placed for a kitten and I was supposed to be first pick of the next litter. When I finally found out that a litter was born, she stated that there was one person before me. Regardless, she told me about a litter of three almost 6 weeks after they were born and there was one male remaining at that point. She advertises that her kittens are well socialized. Untrue! I went to visit the kitten prior to picking him up and he and his two litter mates ran away and hid. That happened again when I picked up my kitten. I lived on a farm for 10 years and kittens that are used to human handling will not do that. It took months for my Oliver to finally trust us and he is still a very skittish cat. He exhibits very little personality of a ragdoll - does not like to be held, will not sit on your lap, allows very little touching, is always distant and will bite. That is not a socialized cat. Regardless, I will not rehome him as it is not his fault - we are now his family and this is his home. She sends her kittens out at 8 weeks old, which should not be done with Ragdolls. Moreover, I signed a contract that I would get him neutered no later than 6 months old and she would then provide me with a TICA registration slip at that time. He was neutered in September of 2020 and she has still not provided me with his registration papers. She has lied to me over and over again stating that TICA is behind and she is still waiting. I contacted TICA today and was advised that they are two months behind and they do not have any pending paperwork filed by Deborah McKee. Additionally, she has not filed any litters since February of 2020. My Oliver was born on April 23, 2020.
She is a very poor representation of a breeder and should not be allowed to be a registered TICA cattery. Although you may be out the $200.00, consider yourself lucky. Pay a little more money and get what you are promised.
