I started a payroll service on August 2 with Heartland Payroll. They were gonna take money from my checking account and pay my Federal 941 and Maryland State 506 withholding tax. But after ten weeks, I stopped using their service 'cause they didn't pay my Maryland state withholding taxes. I complained and Megan Hrdlickra, a payroll supervisor, got in touch with me. She talked to the payroll company and got a report on my payroll history. The report shows they took money from my account and put it in theirs. But when I asked for a refund for the Maryland State withholding taxes they took, they only gave me some of it back. They didn't explain why I didn't get the full refund. On August 20, they took $151.81, and in September, they took $670.84. I'm missing a refund of $822.65. My payroll account number is 210bvw2. This company is awful. They steal money from their clients.

Heartland Payroll Solutions in Webster, NY messed up when they set up our company's payroll services in October . They made a sneaky mistake that was hard to catch. Even our assigned Heartland Payroll Specialist and our Finance Director (me) didn't notice it during the final review. I only discovered the error on 12/03, after five payrolls had already gone through. Heartland's blunder resulted in our hourly employees getting paid an extra dollar for every regular hour they worked, but it didn't increase their hourly wage. In total, our hourly employees received a whopping $3902.75 in overpaid wages during those five payrolls. If I hadn't caught the mistake on 12/03, Heartland's computer would have kept overpaying our hourly employees in the future. When I asked what we could do to recover the overpaid wages, my Heartland Payroll Specialist suggested that I could give them permission to deduct the full overpaid amount from each employee's next paycheck, or I could collect the overpaid wages bit by bit from future checks. I decided to reach out to our local NYS Labor Board office for advice, and they informed me that Heartland's suggestion would have violated the Labor Laws that are meant to protect employees who have been overpaid. If I had followed Heartland's advice, it would have caused even more financial and legal problems for our business. That's why I demanded reimbursement from Heartland for our losses. However, they claimed that because we signed their contract, it was a shared responsibility, and they only offered us a small settlement. To make matters worse, Heartland completely ignored the letter our BOD President sent to their corporate office on 5/27, requesting a fair settlement for the overpaid wages caused by their account setup error.
