Day 75 and I am still waiting payment on an approved $429 repair. Imagine if it was a transmission repair. Great Lakes tell me the claim is in their computer, it is approved but waiting for management to approve and release funds. The original welcome letter when my wife and I bought the warranty said they pay in 2 or 3 days after submission of claim. The service rep took my claim and said it would be 30 days after he submitted it to accounting. He submitted the paperwork one week after receiving it and it has been in accounting for 75 days. Warning! Stay away from this company. If they dont pay a claim for a few hundred dollars imagine what they will do for a couple of thousands. I paid nearly $3000 for their Titanium Advantage warranty and finally needed to use it 4 months before my contract expiration. I keep meticulous service records and my car was dealer serviced and maintained. This was not even an engine issue but a lock mechanism in the door which is a covered item and was approved before the service department started work. I can only think this company is about to go under. Check out their Better Business (BBB) rating online and the number of complaints they are receiving. It is very scary! Call them and tell them that you would like to buy a warranty and what is their turn around for paying? They will lie to your face because they want your money. Then do a search on the web and the number of complaints about refusal of payment. It is like a casino. They can only survive of they take more money in then dish out for claims. With the recession and fewer service contracts being sold, Great Lakes balance sheet is hurting and the flow of money has slowed considerably and the only way to keep from going under is to raise cash levels by selling warranties and refusing to pay claims or delaying for months paying claims. Stay Away!

I was also just screwed out of a $1, 500 approved claim by Great Lakes last week. The broker who sold me the policy said that Great Lakes purchased surety bonds in at least 2 states from Travelers Insurance. I contacted Travelers, and was informed that they in fact bonded Great Lakes in PA, SC, NV & AZ. They told me that I have to have resided in one of those states when I purchased the policy to be covered. I don't. Screwed again!

Anyone in those 4 states - CALL Travelers!

Anyone familiar with surety bonds - can they really restrict the coverage to the state the consumer purchased?

Let's all help each other. Please post any tips you may find, like I did.

Ok, if you want to keep faxing your repair receipts, calling and leaving messages, writing emails after emails, waiting 60 days or even 6 months or more to POSSIBLY get paid...this company is for you. They have an idiot named Sheldon working at the company who is on a power trip. Clue, accounting won't return calls, Sheldon says I have closed your file and given it to accounting for payment so they pass the buck. They won't return calls or messages. The contract pays $75 labor rate. Pep Boys cost more than $75. This company is joke. They approved a lock mechanism but won't pay a $229 dollar claim after they took payment of $2300 for a warranty. Imagine if it was a transmission. STAY AWAY from these crooks! There is no customer service. Google their address and get a load of their facility via the street view. During recessions, financially weak companies go under. This company is about to fold.

I have had 3 approved repairs - the repair facility obtained a repair code from Great Lakes - and Great Lakes has been making excuses for not sending the reimbursement check since June, 2009. Does anyone have a PA attorney to sue them with?

Did you all hear the "unsurprising" news? They finally went out of business, in 7/2010. Apparently they were bonded through Traveler's Insurance. Traveler's is only paying claims that were pre-authorized by Great Lakes. Contact them and maybe you will receive reimbrusement? If not, you will have to do like I had to do and file a consumer complaint with the attorney general since I had service done after they went out of business and my warranty doesn't expire until 4/2011. Wondering if I will ever get my money back---what a bunch of crooks!

Waiting since November 2009 myself. Almost $2, 000. Turned it over to the BBB and now accounting won't process because "it's a legal matter." The BBB was asleep at the wheel, too. They were negligent in addressing the concerns of consumers.

I started a Facebook page called "Avoid Great Lakes Warranty." My story is there. Please "like" the page. Once I get the number of folks built up I will begin sending the link to every dealer that I know of that sells their policies. Target them one by one until Great Lakes is out of business. Let's use the power of social media! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Avoid-Great-Lakes-Warranty-Corporation/104394206278370?ref=ts

My car was towed to my mechanic on Thursday, May 20, 2010. I need a new engine and here it is a week later and my car is still sitting at their shop. They have stop taking repairs for Great Lakes as they are owed money from last year. I cannot blame them and they understand that I cannot pay the 2K and my dealer is trying to find a place that will fix my car and await the payment. I called Great Lakes today, May 28, 2010, and they were very non-caring and informed me that it will take 45 days for a claim to be paid. I asked for a list of approved repair centers and Natasha said they do not provide that information (wonder why?). I cannot get a car rental until the claim is started and I have filed a complaint with the BBB and also the State's Attorney office. I have not even owned this car for a year.

I agreee that this is fraud as we are all paying for a service that cannot be rendered. I am also awaiting for a call back from the President of Great Lakes and we all know that won't happen.

And to think that they refer to this company as the cadillac of all car warranties!

I do hope this works out for me and thanks for this forum to describe our issues with this BBB credited Company. Class action?

Only day 75? I have been waiting for 5 months for a mere $200 pre-approved claim. They keep telling me that accounting has the claim and are backed up. No doubt the company is going under. DO NOT BUY THIS COMPANIES WARRANTY! Do your research on the BBB and other sites online and you will see the many complaints!

I am the owner of a small 2 bay garage in PA and I too am having problems with approved claimes being paid. I have 2 outstanding claims, one is over 90 days old and the other is over 70 days old. I just called and requested a complaint form from the ATTY. General's office. I have run into this before with the Eagle warranty company which is now as of Dec.18 2009 bankrupt. The Attny. General's office has filed suit against the company and it's president and VP to hopefully get our money back. It is doubtfull I will see any money from Eagle, but I am not waiting as long to file against Great Lakes in hopes that I will atleast see some money. Needless to say I nolonger accept Great Lakes or Eagle warranties at my shop. Hopefully the AG will act quickly on this matter to minimize how many shops and customers get screwed.
