We did our research online, and after meeting once we got our Bernese Mountain Dog from this breeder. 6 months in we noticed his back legs were growing extremely bow legged and he was CONSTANTLY whimpering. He was also developing a large limp In his front leg. After numerous X-rays, vet visits, and our own research we found out that not only did he have hip displasia in both back hips, but also in both his elbows...again, this was all at 6 months old. When we contacted the breeder she said she would take him back and give us a new dog or we can keep him but we have to use her vet. My dog is now 2, has had 5000+ in leg surgeries, and already has arthritis. Also, our vet has informed is that other Bernese puppies from this kennel are showing signs of leg problems, and I have on more than one occasion been speaking with other Bernese owners who have had issues from this breeder. This is NOT just about big dogs having leg issues...these should not be breeding dogs period. Not to mention they have a farm with about 25+ Bernese and just as many goldens. Their house and places where they keep the puppies are falling apart, hole in their floors, and also in the walls. STAY AWAY!

Hi Pat...it has been almost 4 years since we brought home our beautiful boys. To date they have no medical conditions and I am happy with my dogs. My husband on the other had was not happy at all. He wanted to return the one as I am sure some other dog got a hold of that female because except for his colouring he is not a Bernese. Now I love them and would never, ever give a dog back and because it was not a medical condition I thought that contacting you would be a waste of time. On this past Saturday we met 2 more males that came from you that are absolutely gorgeous and just massive. The older one did have elbow problems and you were able to help and give them a new puppy. I believe Pat tries her best and its up front about all her dogs. I will be writing directly to her to tell her this as well. So the small of my 2 boys is about 75lbs and he can jump from his back legs straight up in the air like a jack russell. I dont think they are suppose to do that. But if that is the only problem I ever have with him, thats not bad.

I have visited a lot of breeders and a lot of kennels in my 50+ years. I found Pat at Goldenbreez 18 years ago and I will NEVER need to look for another breeder again. I LOVE her facility . The adult dogs do an AMAZING job of helping socialize the young puppies . The whelping boxes are always clean and a perfect place for mom's to 'leave' their pups to get some time outside. There are a LOT of dogs - lots of ages all put into appropriate groups that form incredibly functional packs. We got our first Golden Retriever Puppy from Pat when he was 8 weeks old. He lived a long and wonderful 12 years with absolutely NO health concerns until the last few weeks of his life. He was of ABOVE average intelligence, loving and very bonded to our family. He was raised with my then 3 year old boy and 1 year old girl. We got a second pup from Goldenbreez when my daughter was 3.5 years old and on chemotherapy for a Brain tumour. We went to her kennel during one of the most stressful times in our lives. Pat was so accommodating . She let us spend hours snuggling puppies and getting a feel for the personalities of the dogs . Part of that visit was to look for a companion for our first boy the other part was for some very needed puppy therapy for a stressed out family. Just before we were about to leave the basement of the farmhouse we looked over into the corner where our fragile daughter had fallen asleep leaning against a wall and a 14 week old white puppy. No one spoke . It was like she was wrapped in love. We left Goldenbreez that day with a feeling of hope and support. A week went by and we returned to Pat's Goldenbreez unannounced. When she met us in the driveway she said " I knew you would be back for that Vanilla pup... so I placed her on hold for you :) " . We took Vanilla home with us and while she was not the smartest dog we ever met she was one of the most loving and snuggly dogs we have ever known. She to lived to just over 12 years old with no health issues until her last 2 months. Our daughter is now 19 years old. We are lucky she is still with us . She has asked about getting another puppy. I can't think of ANYWHERE I would rather get a puppy than from Pat at Goldenbreez. Pat remembers every single client. She is a wealth of information on the breeds she works with and she loves what she does. She stands behind her 3 year rule and will honour it .

Oh - and her farm house ... its a beautiful old farmhouse. Its not the style of house for everyone . It is however completely perfect for Pat and the dogs at Goldenbreez.

We purchased our sweet-tempered Berner from Goldenbreez in 2006. At that time we knew little about the breed except that they were short-lived (which most large breed dogs are) and gorgeous. Pat spent considerable time showing us her facility and making us aware of the challenges we would be facing as a Bernese owner. Her patience is immense. Her facility is well thought out and appropriate for her breeding activities. Since we were buying a pup, not real estate, we accepted the presence of several big dogs and a few cosmetic faults. Having thoroughly interviewed us to determine whether we were suited to the privilege of Bernese ownership, we visited the litter, there to be greeted and chosen by "Bernie". Throughout his 10 years and 2 months as a member of our family our black beauty remained our family's ambassador of goodwill. Perhaps we were just luckier than others who lost their pets early or suffered through debilitating and costly health events. Personally we feel Goldenbreez has a sound (if not perfect) breeding program; a sound and efficient breeding facility and the energy and love for what they do that produces good quality pets. Good luck Pat and family when you wind down. You can feel proud of what you accomplished.

I would highly recommend Pat as a breeder. This is our first dog, a Goldendoodle who is now 9 months old and her personality is as close to perfect as we could want. This gentle girl hardly ever barks, has never jumped up or been anything but sweet and calm. Clearly, the dogs are treated with love and diligent care at Goldenbreez, for example we received about three pages of information about optimal feeding of our dog. Very helpful. Our dog also came with hip and elbow certification and we were able to meet the mom and see photos of the dad of our dog. It was an extremely enjoyable adoption experience for our family. We were provided with clear information and expectations and have had no disappointment so far. The only downside is that the Parkinson's are probably going to be retired by the time we need to adopt again! I feel so lucky to have been referred to Goldenbreez - our dog is wonderful and Pat is a gem.

Hi, We recently said 'goodbye' to our Bernese named Koko, from Goldenbreez. She was 11 when she passed and had developed some GI problems in the last year. She was a very special companion and made our house a home. She was also one of the most intelligent dogs I have ever encountered. I also did my research before embarking on a Bernese and discovered that the breed can have the longevity of larger breed dogs (8-10 years) but there seem to be many positive exceptions. According to the literature, they are prone to many joint and cancer type afflictions and I did my best to reduce that possibility by giving her the best food available and having her followed by a good veterinarian. Goldenbreez, as I recall was a 'madhouse' with all of the dogs, but they were all well behaved and well socialized. From day 1, Koko was easy to be with and train - she came first in her obedience classes - and always loved doing things and going places with us. She loved and was dearly loved, Thanks, Melanie

Hi I bought Sacha from Pat three years ago. Pat the time we spent at your farm was very entertaining with all the four legged friends running around. And the information was very appreciated. One observation was never heard from Canadian kennel club with papers. There is no doubt in my mind that she is a pure bred. Health issues so far good had an umbical hernia repaired, she does have wobbly hock but no issues with mobility. Recently received a letter from friend they just had to put their Riley down he was 10 Hope my Sacha has that kind of longevity. Haver four dogs at my farm house two labs one dachshund and one Bernese Sacha. Riley my chocolate lab is 16 so when he passes will definitely give you a call. Keep up the great work the Bernese are great creatures thanks Johnny

We purchased our Goldendoodle a couple weeks ago from this breeder. I can't speak about the purebreeds, but I can tell you these dogs all seem to come from a loving breeder who cares about the well being of her dogs. Every dog I met there looked well taken care of and happy. The dogs were allowed to come and go freely in the house and their personalities were very affectionate. Pat was very knowledgeable and took her time with us telling us everything our dog needed for a happy, healthy, long life. I've gotten compliment after compliment from guests about how well behaved our pup is, and I accredit that Pat making sure her dogs are socialized. We are very happy with our decision to get our pup from this breeder.

Our family acquired a male Bernese Mountain dog from Pat in 2004. Unfortunately, he was not a good fit for our family and we returned him to her when he was 7 months of age. We loved him, but we couldn't manage him and she was gracious enough to take him back in exchange for a smaller female. We have had Taya for 11 years now. We are just noticing that she has some difficulty lying down due to some arthritis in her back legs. Other than that, Taya is energetic, loving, and well-behaved. We are so thankful for the time we have had with her and to be honest, Pat hand picked her for us after things didn't work out with the first BMD that we had chosen. Eleven years is a milestone for these dogs and we attribute her good health to Pat's high breeding standards. We would definitely return to Pat for another BMD or a Golden Retriever.

I purchased my Titan from Pat over 8 years ago. He has never been sick, he continues to be very active, hiking, swimming ATVing . I would highly recommend this breeder. When it comes to breeders I would look at the kennels before judging them on their house. Pats kennels were very cleans and the dogs are very friendly. That's all that matters.

I purchased 2 Berners from Pat and have been very happy with both. My 1st Riley passed at 8 from Bloat and I now have Tucker who is 18months old and perfect. He had surgery back in July for Elbow Dysplasia but as stated in one of the other comments, these breeds are prone to this.
Pat does offer a guarantee that if your pet does get Elbow or Hip dysplasia that she will provide you with another pup which you have 2 years to claim.
I am waiting for a litter she hopes to have for April and I will then have had 3 Berners from her.
nothing in life is guaranteed and she should not be held accountable for something that no one has control over

We have had the luxury of owning 3 Goldens from Goldenbreez. Our first dog lived until she was almost 13, our second dog died unexpectedly at 3 years young (no fault of Pat's, as we had an autopsy performed) and we now have a beautiful girl who will soon be 3 years old. We would never buy a Golden from any breeder other than Pat. She truly cares about ALL of her dogs in a way that I have never seen with any other breeder. Her knowledge of both Goldens and Bernese dogs is exemplary. Sure, her house is old, but who cares! What we cared about was how the dogs were raised. I'm sure that there are many other messy homes in this world filled with wonderful children- maybe you have one of these yourself. Why would you consider Pat's home to be any different- to her, the dogs ARE her children. They are are loved equally and they all have wonderful temperaments. Keep up the good breeding Pat, I'm sure we will be visiting you soon to buy a playmate of our Golden!

We bought our Berner from Pat last year after interviewing different breeders. We found Pat the most knowledgeable out of all the breeders we met. She is very compassionate about her dogs. She was a great person to buy from. She sent us home with a book full of information to help.us learn more about the breed. We would recommend this breeder to everyone. We will continue to go back to Pat in the future.

I think that as the owner of Goldenbreez Kennel, that I should be able to make a rebuttal here on this forum. Firstly Goldenbreez is only one word with no final E There is a boarding kennel in Crookston MN down in the states that took my kennel name. They are a boarding kennel and I have been a breeding kennel for over 25 years. I only rarely board dogs and ONLY my customers dogs. Which are either Golden Retrievers or Bernese Mountain Dogs. .
There is clearly some mistake regarding a dead Shih zhu … I have never boarded a Shih Zhu in my life. To all those reading about Golden breeze make sure you are complaining about or reading about the proper kennel. Mine is Goldenbreez. Please make sure that you are reading about or complaining about the proper kennel.
We live on a large acreage with an immaculate landscaped property with huge flower gardens . Our house is over a century old home. There was never a hole in the wall where the pups were kept. The pens are disinfected and steam cleaned between litters. We did have a large Golden teenage male one day, whom closed the bathroom door on himself and he chewed a hole in the bathroom wall under the sink. It did take us about 8 months before we totally renovated the bathroom for $10, 000 and made the bathroom totally waterproofed and dog proofed with tiles and a dog shower. Yes there was a hole in the maple floor from a water pail but that has been repaired also . As time permits, and as we wind down business we plan to completely renovate our home. Yes this is a home not a house and the dogs are always welcome in to the family area, … even when it is raining and their feet are muddy.
If you do buy a dog from me, and in the first three years your dog suffers from some malady that makes your dog not a suitable pet…then you are able keep your original dog and come and get a new free puppy, with a health statement from your vet, or a governing body that tests hips and elbows. We even gurantee your dog’s personality. We DO certify all of our dogs hips and elbows before breeding anyone. To those that have complained above; please contact me and I will try to make you happy. I always honour our three year guarantee.
Also to the person that I told that her Bernese dog would die early …I am sure that I was not trying to tell you that your dog would die soon, but only to be prepared for this fact because some Bernese can die early. … Sometimes this breed can be very healthy and then disappear quite quickly…I am sorry that you took this the wrong way. I try to tell everyone about the shortcomings of this breed and the idiosyncrasies of this breed. But I do also tell everyone the joys of owning the Bernese. Some say any time with this breed is worth it. I was only trying to be a realist …not a pessimist. I must have lost a beloved dog of my own suddenly that week and the pain was on my mind. I apologize for you taking this wrong. I love my dogs dearly and everyone is well taken care of …with lots of food and freedom in our large backyards. All dogs are socialized in the house and do rotate from their pens to the house.

We have our own Bernese from this breeder, and he's going on 10 soon, and still very healthy, happy and going strong.

I find it funny you say you've done your research, yet you must have missed the 10 or so websites on Bernese Mountain Dogs that EXPLICITLY state how the breed is prone to problems with their bones, especially hips, known as dysplasia (source: http://www.bmdcc.ca/health_issues.htm). While it is very unfortunate to hear your dog has hip problems, this is something that is not the breeder's fault. In fact that was one of the things she warned us about the breed, and we even found out her breeding dogs are PennHip checked and qualified, so she is doing everything right to prevent as many hip problems in her puppies as she can.

It is an older farm house with 10 or more dogs living in it at any one time, but even then your 'holes in the walls' remark was a bit of an exaggeration. I think it's great that she lets the puppies get used to socializing with the older dogs and new people (ie customers) at such a young age. Our big guy definitely turned out to be a very kind gentle giant. And all the dogs have a wide open yard to run around in, hardly a puppy mill by any standards.

Just had to comment as this is one of the first pages seen when Googling 'Goldenbreez Kennels' and I think that this complaint was uneducated and exaggerating.

I saw an add looking for help in the kennel. When I saw her house it smelled and didn't look clean. I had a walk thru of the barns and the showed me what I would be doing. There wasn't enough disinfectanting going on. Each pen had two dogs. There was about ten or 20 pens. It smelled. Everything was discussing. All the buildings housed dogs. I figure she had 100 dogs there. I wasn't impressed

I got my beautiful boy from this breeder and I have to say we've been Very lucky! He will be 7 in just a couple weeks! He does have arthritis in his back legs and knees and he too is very bow legged. I had to fight to get my papers from her that he was registered with the CKC, I had to actually complain to the CKC to get them. There were lots of other small red flags but I love my dog so much so I just moved on. When my dog turned 5 I was so excited and happy as he was doing so well so I emailed pictures of him to the breeder and updated her on his health...she emailed me back the next day and 'that's great but he will be dead soon because they all die early!' OMG! I coil not believe how nasty and unprofessional this woman was! I'm happy to say that she can kiss my ### because my dog is doing very well for age and I'm so happy that he picked me and I fell in love on the spot! I have also heard from other people how horrible these people are! When you think puppy mill you think about little dogs well this is a puppy mill with Berners and Goldens...I hope all of the dogs find great homes and I hope this breeder gets shut down!
