[Report]
My fiancé who is a (28) female was brought into the Emergency Department at Surrey Memorial Hospital by Ambulance in the evening on (11 August, 2022) because she collapsed and had a seizure at Surrey Central Bus loop which lasted for 15 minutes from when she collapsed and was inside the ambulance.
When my she arrived at the hospital in the EHS side, the ambulance attendants abandoned and left her unattended in the hallway.
When I arrived at the Hospital the admitting staff said to me that she was NOT allowed to have any visitors even though I had Identified myself as her Fiancé and is on her emergency contact, therefore I waited patiently in the waiting room without seeing her.
There were 3 incidences in total where my she did not want to stay at the hospital during a mental health crisis, the hospital and security staff did nothing to prevent her from leaving durning a mental health crisis, therefore I had to intervene on their behalf.
The 2cd time when she collapsed she hit her head on concrete during a seizure and screamed because of a loud crack that came from hitting her head which was just outside of the Emergency Department were a Code Blue was called and 12 nurses came outside whom were just standing around her doing nothing and not taking control of the situation, nor offering or providing any help whatsoever or First-Aid, instead they just put her in a blue wheelchair with a red handle and wheeled her back inside with her head completely laying backwards and both of her arms straight outwards on both sides during the 2cd seizure and was left unattended again.
The hospital staff did not put her on a board or in a neck collar because she hit her head on the concrete.
The 3rd time when she had left the Emergency Department she collapsed and was having a 3rd seizure, during that time multiple security guards were standing around her not offering or providing any First-Aid and thought she was faking it during the seizure and were trying to get her to leave.
The security staff told me to keep my distance and not to come any closer in a rude unprofessional tone and were treating me as hostile, however i complied to the command that was given, therefore I had to run back into the Emergency Department to get a nurse because no help was bring given to her, however no one came outside to assist.
When I came back outside briefly she had left Hospital grounds, therefore I was legally forced to call 911 under the Mental Health Act because i was extremely concerned for Marlaina's wellbeing in the state of a metal health crisis and Marlaina was running into traffic on King George Blvd between 96th and 94A Ave with a head injury, and her left hand was placed on her head.
3 Mental Health Nurses with the Surrey RCMP arrived and retrieved her at the bus stop northbound on King George Blvd at 94A ave and brought her back to the hospital.
The Constable I had talked to was a supervisor with Surrey RCMP, stated that she was apprehended under the Mental Health Act but was not arrested and instructed me that I go back to the Hospital to be with her.
When I arrived 2 security guards came outside and ambushed me before I could even go inside of the building, where I sat down on a bench on the left side just outside of the Emergency Department entrance.
The 2 guards stated to me while I was sitting down.
“what are you doing here”
My response was
“the police brought my fiancé back and I was instructed by the Constable that I spoke with who was a supervisor to come back and to be with her”
The Security staff stated
“ Your fiancé is not here and you are not allowed to be here”
My response was
“I will leave”
Even though I complied to the command given by the security staff they still treated me as hostile and were ready to physically remove me off from the property while I was sitting down. When I got off of the property I called the Surrey RCMP to confirm her whereabouts and was patched through to the officer who was with her and confirmed they were at Surrey Memorial Hospital in the Mental Health Unit which is located on the right side in the Emergency Department beside the bathrooms, therefore I was lied to from the security staff.
After confirming her whereabouts with the Surrey RCMP, shortly after I got a ride home from her home share family because I complied to the command given by the security guards.
NO scans or X-rays were conducted which should have been conducted.
My Fiancé has been constantly in pain with her head, neck, hands and one of her middle finger might be dislocated.
We are trying to having a baby, therefore she might be pregnant!
I identified myself multiple times to all staff members involved between Fraser Health and Paladin Security as her fiancé and has a Private Investigation Diploma, Basic Security, Advanced Security Training, a suicide prevention and OFA1 CPR&AED certificates.
I am also a Law Enforcement Studies Student at the Justice Institute of British Columbia, is a cohort learner and I will be in the Adult Civilian Police Academy program for 9 weeks with the Surrey RCMP commencing on (21 September, 2022)
