I was looking for a 2nd cat to add in my home. Specifically, I was looking for a senior cat as I currently already care for one (15 years). I have a good job, own my home, and plenty of space for another kitty. After searching through Petfinder, I came across a picture of a senior cat about 9 years old that I was interested in. After looking through Fairytails website, there was not much information regarding the adoption process (i.e. How much is the fee?) or the details about this cat so I gave Donna a call using the only phone number (cell) listed on the website. She responded that the cat was adopted recently. I was in disbelief as this is the 2nd time this is happening when I called a rescue about a senior pet and I was told he or she was adopted the same day or the day before. After volunteering in animal shelters myself for years, senior pets had always been one of the most difficult pets to place. As I sat there surprised by the news, but glad at the same time that 9-year old kitty found a home, Donna mentioned something over the phone which I did not hear clearly. Still thinking about the adopted kitty, I commented, "Wow, I can't believe he found a home this quickly". Rather than asking whether or not I heard her, or maybe even misunderstood what she said, her response to me was, "If you won't answer my question, I am just going to hang up." That I heard very clearly and my desire to want to adopt or donate to her immediately fled my mind.

After reading her website thoroughly, something smells funky and it's not the animals. If you check out the Fairytails website, she stated, "We are sinking and we need your help!" Specifically, she asks for personal donations and items for the animals. Unlike other shelters who uses fundraising events to raise money, there are no such events listed on her website. In order to volunteer, you are REQUIRED to pay $10.00 for a Fairytails shirt before you are allowed to help her. Yes, that is right, you have to pay to help her. In all my years of volunteering in various non-profit organizations, if I had to pay something up front to volunteer, it is usually because it was necessary and the organization did not have the budget to cover for volunteers (i.e. paying a $8.00 fee to process a background check to tutor children). This is not one of those things. This is a T-shirt, with you advertising her company, that you have to pay $10.00 for.

Rescues like this one is why some people are turned off from adopting or donating.

Yes, hi, I have a grievance. Donna is rude. Has poor communication tools. And an inability to be receptive to feedback. It definitely impacts your adoption experience(s) negatively. A process that should be full of enthusiasm turns into a grueling, difficult process because of her lack of professionalism. I will keep her in my prayers and hope that Jesus can do something about her nasty attitude. Try Jesus, don’t try me. #notsorry

The same happened to me today! She is so rude! I was inquiring about the same puppies, you have pictured there. I called her (I much rather speak to someone) no answer but voicemail says she prefers text. I texted "good morning, interested in the puppies and so on" and she replied I was hoping you would have been polite and given me your name" really? I didn't respond as this is obviously a very bitter and unkind person who is only looking to bring others down.

I reached out to Donna because I was interested in adopting one of the puppies she had available, from a group of 6-7. In her post she mentioned that the male is the brindle and that all others were female. I texted her to ask if the bridle was available and she said someone was already on their way to pick him up. So I asked for one of the females that had a cute black spot in her eye, and her response was "thank you. i do not understand why you are choosing a puppy for its look. That is bothersome to me. you should chose for a pets personality. best wishes". Such an attack to someone who was simply trying to adopt a puppy and checking on their availability. I told her its people like her that discourage others from wanting to adopt and end up buying a pet instead. She responded with some sob story that she hears back from a lot of "sick people". I decided to just ignore her text. Now this morning, I get a message from her, essentially attacking me saying "too bad I was so rude, the boy is available". Seems like this lady is unhinged. I will stay away, and continue to warn others to do the same. Attached are her messages to me. Sorry the chain is incomplete - I tend to delete messages from toxic people quickly.

I have adopted 2 dogs from Donna I know she is not in it for the money. She really cares for these babies. One of my dogs had to have surgery to remove her eye because of neglect. Donna paid over 1000.00 for the surgery. I took her home the same day and she paid for follow up visits. I then adopted dog no 2 neglected and abused. I thank Donna for rescuing them and bringing us so much joy. I would definitely recommend her.

Donna is not only crazy she smells her animals smell. She treats them horribly. She says she cares about them but all she worries about is money. She has a dark soul. Left our dog with her to babysit for long weekend and we ended up at the emergency vet because under her care our dog had a puncture cheek and head. She never said anything to us. Do not adopt from this wacko.

Donna Halpern from Fairy Tailes Adoptions Rescue is the craziest person I’ve come across from a rescue. She shouldn’t be allowed to discriminate just because I texted her at 10:30 pm, not realizing the time, after she texted me at 9:30pm. She texted me right after “Thanks for waking me up”. The next morning I texted her at 7 am...thinking she’d be up with dogs, apologizing for the late text and asking her to call me. She never did and When I messaged her that evening...she messaged back...because I texted her at 10:30pm and 7am. She wasn’t comfortable with me. She’s a bitter old woman. She has a bulldog I wanted to adopt. I was the first person to respond and she goes and plays g-d That was mean...what gives her the right to exclude me. She never gave me hours nor were they on the website..but it was okay for her to text me after hours at 9:30 when she finally told me the hours were 9 to 9. I am going to report the way she handles a 501c., as well as the discrimation..she is discriminating when I have excellent references and worked with an English bulldog rescue. She doesn’t know me...what gives her the right? She shouldn’t be allowed to run a rescue.

That lady is crazy and rude ! I was at a Stop light the other morning and she got out of her car and started banging on my window. I looked at her and told her she was crazy. I drove off after the light changed & she had gotten back in her car. Then she almost crashes into my car because she was preventing me fr changing into her lane since there were cones & construction going on in m u lane ahead. Next thing I know she flips me the finger.
I gave her double back. I really don't know what her problem was @@!

My daughter wanted to volunteer. She went to the website to sign up. She didn't hear back and decided to send her a text. My daughter used my phone to text since hers was in the process of being replaced. She sent her a message on a Thursday when I was at home but she did not immediately replied. She replied the next day when I was at work with my phone. She advised her to go to the website to apply for volunteering. I mentioned this to my daughter and she said she already did that. So 4 days pass and now is when she is asking if she received the text. I told her that yes she did and explained to her that my daughter's phone was fixed and gave her the number and advised her she did as she was told to go to the website. Her response- that she was surprised that she did not get a "Thank you" from the previous text and that common courtesy is important to her and that she no longer needed her. All I have to say is WOW! If she starts off with this attitude, I wouldn't leave your kids with her for nothing. Hopefully she doesn't breed.

I called Fairy Tails Adoptions today because I was seeking to help a cat, when Donna Halpern responded. She was nothing but rude and unprofessional. Not only did she not let me get a word in the conversation, she stated that "because of people like you the world sucked". Excuse me but if I am calling in order to help an animal find a shelter does that not make me a better person than those who simply ignore the animal? This woman Donna Halpern is uneducated, unprofessional and incredibly ignorant.

I adopted a dog from Donna 3 years ago and, frankly, am really surprised at these comments. I found Donna to be most pleasant and helpful. She didn't rush us or complain about how long it was taking when we were trying to decide on a dog. She had asked for cash, but we paid by check and she didn't have a problem. By the way, our choice turned out to be a wonderful addition to our family. He fit right in and was a great companion. We travel for business and was able to take him into hotels without any problems. She did tell us about her rescue mission and how it is hard making ends meet. I guess that is why she asks her helpers to pay for their shirts.

I had a big problem with Donna as well. She is rude and only wants your money. If you surrender a cat to her she just wants your money and doesn't care for your cat or try to get them adopted. She was extremely rude to me and I was nothing but grateful that she was willing to take in my cats. She only wants the money. I decided not to go with her and she was insulting at that point and I knew I had made the right decision to not surrender my cats to her.

I took my 17 year old son to volunteer when we got there (outside a petsmart store) the first thing she said to us was that we needed to buy the $10 T-shirt then she said she will have my son and other kids collect money on the streets and if the group collects $300 she will let them keep $100
I find that very weird when you volunteer you don't get pay
after we told her my son changed his mind to volunteer ( because of her bad attitude ) she responded thank you for wasting my time !
I wonder if she is using this adoption deal for her own gain .
