Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital Mauritius (www.dragarwal.com/) is a DANGEROUS Rip-Off !

In mid-January 2011 my eyes started to water, itch, ache and tire plus there was reduced ability to read.

On 2 February 2011 I went to Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital Mauritius and was examined by a team of specialist. Diagnosis: mild allergic conjunctivitis & early NS cataracts with Pigmented Clumps in both eyes. Advice Phacoemulsification with IOL Surgery in both eyes for MUR 90, 000 = ~ USD 3, 000.00.

On 25 February 20011 went to another ophthalmologist for a second opinion. Diagnosis: mild allergic reaction. NO conjunctivitis, NO cataracts and NO Pigmented Clumps either eye. When shown Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital Mauritius’ diagnosis and advice WIHTOUT the name of the hospital or doctor on it, he said immediately, “This is from Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital. They tell every patient to have surgery.”

Be WARNED: Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital Mauritius is a DANGEROUS Rip-Off that only wants your money !

    My two cents?

Solve all of it by getting some contacts. Better on your eyes and you'll see straighter. Never trust a strange doctor like him to know what's best for you.

Hi ...I was just going through all the feedback...But i feel there strong unawreness and false allegations have been set up...I have been closely assocaited with Dr agarwal's Eye hospital because many of my relatives have got great benefits from this hospital.Coming to cataract early cataract in Mauritius no doctor can operate as it ois very tough it needs surgical expertise, so avoid this many of the doctors suggest that there is no cataract and you can wait thats not true.At Agarwals the surgeons are so good and their surgical skills are better. And coming to the hospital set up, from mauritius we used to travel outside for Eye care, today we should thank Dr agarwal's bcos they are here and they gave us that advantage not to go out and save money...My dear friends every service in healthcare has price. Our own Brahmwell, Darne or city clinic or clinique dunord will not treat patients freely...But In agarwal's i have seen the warmth and humanity in staff also from Doctors.I visit this hospital since one and half years all staffs including Mauritian staff are happy ...Same staff working form last one and half years...I think we should stop such venomous comments with selfishness rather lets support who has come from far to provide us quality health care

Hi..I've recently undergone a laser eye surgery i.e on Tuesday 2August.. i had holes found near my cornea..The doctor whose name i won't mention told me that i had to undergo a surgery to block those holes else i would have problems later in my retina..i was given drops to use for 3days then on Tuesday I've done my surgery..The previous doctor whom I've been visiting had been increasing my glasses number every year i had a blurred vision but after this surgery i'm fine..My eyes were hurting only on the day i had my surgery and 2 consecutive days.. Now i'm fine..from my point of view these doctors who settled in Mauritius have done the right thing by doing so...cheers everyone..

I have been to the hospital myself and i feel it is a world class center offering the best services in the indian ocean region. Everything comes with a price my friends my aunt underwent surgery and she is doing very well. I am very impressed by the quality care and the top-notch professionalism which the practitioners have at the hospital which has been conspicuously missing from mauritius so far.

    Hello all,
If you still wantto go to Dr Agarwal's eye Hospital for cataract surgery, please ask for the IOL (Lens) box and sticker. Please ensure the same is implanted in your eye. You can also check with an ophthalmologists the actual cost of IOL.

    Dear All,
Indeed Dr Agarwal's Hospital is fraudulous in all sense. Not only in regards of forcing patients to undergo cataract surgery, but in financial terms as well. My aunty recently underwent cataract surgery worth Rs. 70 k per eye, and we later on found out This hospital is merely business minded, stealing Mauritian's money. Surgery cost is decided upon a patient's outlook, dresscode, professional designation. My neighbour, who is a clerk in a private company paid Rs. 35 k per eye, for the same cataract surgery. In Agarwal's, when asked they will tell you this depends on the quality of lense you chose, but it is all LIES and CHEATERY. Additionally i was informed by the staffs that the Indian teenage youngsters working there do not even have work permit and the mauritian staffs are intimidated in various ways by the management. If inquired in depth it is known that many professional staffs have resigned from that hospital due to unprofessionalism. Government should take proper actions and necessary steps to follow an indepth inquiry. Cheap foreigners cannot come in our island and steal our money way Agarwal's is pretending.

    Dear Sir,
This hospital is known for these kind of unethical practices in Tamilnadu. Usually, People with 6/9 vision will not be asked to under go cataract operation unless the patient claims that he is not able see properly. A patient who is having 6/18 and above can be asked to under go cataract. There is no guarantee that post operation you would have 6/6 or 6/9 vision. thank God you did not get it done there. For your information the same operation can be done here in Tamil nadu for USD 1500.
