I feel the need to give the travel community a warning about St. Martin. If you are going to invest in a timeshare beware that you will have no consumer protections here.

The dutch will not help you, the French will not help you. The timeshare industry has a bad name because they lie to entrap people in contracts and by the time you find out you have been swindled, it is too late to rescind.

I think the solution would be to make it illegal to make perpetual, or even long-standing contracts for timeshares. Then this would force the industry to change its standards or lose clients. However, there is no one willing to make changes in this scammy industry. So we have to use our voices to educate each other.

St Martin / St Marteen adds even more danger to this because you have no one to help aid in your concerns. We have tried to work with Dawn Beach, St. Maarten Consumer Protection, the Consumer Coalition, the Tourism Board, Filed inquiries and grievances with Netherlands government and consumer agencies, Ombudsman, and other agencies, ECC, ACM, etc. all in Dutch, ICPEN, ECC European Counsel and eConsumer. We also filed a complaint with the Attorney General in Kentucky which all payments go through, funny they are not a business in the US but all the money flows through Kentucky? So we filed a complaint with the St. Maarten Securities, in case there is money laundering going on. Nothing seems right with this company. We have had no one who is willing or able to help us.

We were not able to use this for the first 3 years of our contract. We have owned for years now and still have not been able to use it. We just want out at this point. They have not been able to follow their end of the bargain and we feel the contract should be null and void at this time. Who pays for something for 3 years without being able to use it.

Hello we are going through the same thing right now. The hurricane was devastating but they made the decision to rebuild and the area is now vacant. No restaurants or businesses its actually not safe. They should have walked away. The Westin in leveled but they kept the pool. There are no pictures of what it looks like and we have not been given anything tangible. We actually flew down there twice to drive around to see for ourselves and there is no way I would ever stay on that part of the island again. This is a total scam- I am thinking about a class action lawsuit so need more than 2 families to do this. If you know of more people please reply and we can take this offline- Susan
