My name is Debra Wilson. I was hospitalized at Banner Thunderird Hospital for respiratory failure caused by tracheo-bronchial malachia from November 5th until the beginning of December 2019. It was also determined I have Pseudomonis Auruginosa at the bottom of both my lungs. When cultured it was sensitive to very few antibiotics but luckily I was able to start treatment. I was in ICU the majority of the time because of the episodes where it became difficult to breathe and I needed to be put on a respirator and sedated. During this time at Banner, the doctors determined I would need a respirator in my home to try and keep me out of the hospital since I've had so many hospitalizations since Feb 2019 when I was diagnosed with this condition.
When I was stable, I was transferred to CuraHealth in Peoria. My Hospitalist was Dr. Nassour. Within a day or two, he began telling me I needed to go to a long term care facility for the rest of my life. I explained everything the doctors at Banner had already started working on to get a respirator in my home and I had already talked to Palliative care to have them see me regularly. Dr. Nassour never changed his mind and continued to try and convince me his way was what I needed to consider. My answer never changed. I was a patient at CuraHealth from the beginning of December until January 2nd. I was getting aerosol antibiotics the entire time and I had many episodes where I had difficulty breathing. Several of the nurses were telling me I was having anxiety attacks during my episodes and I couldn't understand why they were pushing Ativan so much. When I was able to be taken off the respirator I always tried to tell the nurse assigned to me on that day I didn't have anxiety and that wasn't the reason for my episodes. I would tell them about my traech problem and that it was the cause. I even reported it to the Director at CuraHealth and she assured me she would speak to the nurses doing this. I have proof that the reason the nurses were treating it as anxiety was because Dr. Nassour had put it in my chart and the nurses were just following his instructions. On Jan 2, 2020, I was transferred to Sunview Respiratory & Rehab in Youngtown, AZ. I was told I was going there to finish my two weeks of aerosol antibiotics. This was not true. I didn't know it at the time but I only had four days left. I believe Dr. Nassour wanted me to go to Sunview because they are also a long term care facility. I have copies of the orders Dr. Nassour sent to Sunview and he deliberately chose not to put anything in them about my traech condition. Instead he focused everything on anxiety and depression. This is also not true.
I believe if Dr. Nassour didn't agree with the doctors at Banner, he should have contacted them to discuss it.
My Hospitalist at Sunview was Dr. Hassein. The first time I met him on Jan. 3rd, his first question to me was I was told you are looking for a long term care facility placement. I corrected him right away and said no. I was there for two weeks to finish my antibiotics. This was the same day I found out I only had four days left. I told Dr. Hassein about my traech condition but inevitably it became a mute point because I did not have any episodes of respiratory distress during my stay at Sunview. I believe Dr. Hassein was just following the orders Dr. Nassour sent him. If either of them knew enough about tracheo-bronchial malacia, they would know the episodes don't happen every single day on a consistent basis.
To make matters worse, because of Dr. Nassour pushing the idea of LTC facility permanently I believe this was the only reason he wanted me to go to Sunview. In the copies I have of his orders to Sunview he put a date of 4/02/20 as a target date. This makes no sense unless he really was going to try and force me to stay there permanently because it's completely the opposite of the two weeks I had been told.
To further complicate things, Dr. Nassour's neglect in telling Sunview the truth about all my conditions only made things worse. I did not have any episodes of respiratory distress in the short time I was there so Sunview determined I did not need a respirator at home. Sunview's case manager led us to believe they had contacted Preferred Home Care of their findings. I verified today that was another lie.
All these unnecessary issues point back to Dr. Nassour's negligence in his handling of my case and not being forthright in all the information they passed on to Sunview. All because he wanted me to go live at Sunview permanently. It makes me feel as though he was going to make things as difficult for me as possible because I disagreed with him.

** I was only able to attach six pages of Dr. Nassour's orders sent to Sunview. I can send the remaining pages if you want.
