The Springs Modern Dentistry Worst dentist experience ever

The first time I went to this dentist was with a Groupon for an exam/cleaning/xrays. They seemed nice enough, but they left me sitting in the chair by myself for a VERY long time. Since I was on my lunch hour, I really didn't appreciate this. When I left, they gave me an estimate for some additional work I needed done. My gut told me not to go there again. But unfortunately, I didn't listen to myself. I went back to have fillings done or replaced on several teeth that were causing me sensitivity, plus a couple that weren't bothering me but that needed to be redone anyway (or at least that's what they told me). First of all, they totally overcharged me. Second, they gave me SIX shots of novocaine in one appointment! I made the mistake of assuming they would use nitrous. (When I asked why they didn't, they said they didn't want to be exposed to it themselves.) I am pretty stoic when it comes to pain, but I was in tears by the 4th shot, and my whole body was trembling. It was a horrible experience. I learned an important lesson -- always ask in advance whether they use novocaine or nitrous. Third, I went in with THREE sensitive teeth; I came out with FOUR sensitive teeth! The woman who did the fillings clearly didn't know what she was doing. I had to endure the sensitivity for several weeks before I could go back to their office. When I went back, they put me with the same woman, and she told me it takes up to 2 months for the sensitivity to go away. But she said she would fix them anyway. It took forever, she had an attitude, and she only fixed 1 of the 4 sensitive teeth. It has been over 2 months since that last appointment, and I still cannot chew food on the left side of my mouth, and brushing my teeth is very uncomfortable. I still have 3 very sensitive teeth, and now I will have to pay another dentist to redo the work that these people were not able to do correctly (TWICE).

The Springs Modern Dentistry dental plan

I went to their office because they were offering a special on cleaning and xrays. I was told I needed a crown which I agreed to have done. Sam, the receptionist came in to tell me about a dental plan they had to offer but she did not tell me it was mandatory to enroll at that time since their office was giving me a discount on the crown. Now they are calling me saying I owe them $111 more for the dental plan even though the phamplet says this plan is voluntary. The crow was cheaper than I could have gotten at my other dentist but I don't feel I owe them $111 more since it was not made clear to me that was part of the cost.

I had a crown placed for a amalgam filling that had fallen out. The crown itself fell out one month after it was put in. Both my insurance company and myself paid a lot of money and the explanation I was given was "we won't charge you for the replacement." Why ever would you? And that I if I could possibly hold out and if its not painful that I could wait until they had an opening later in the week for it to be fixed. I went in that day, regardless. I was pregnant at the time. I had a worse experience at their sister office, North Springs Modern Dentistry where it was decided by Dr. Pickett that I had 6 cavities, that my baby tooth needed to come out ASAP and have a costly $4000 out of pocket implant (insurance would cover $3000) and that I needed an expensive deep cleaning. Keep in mind I went to the dentist not less than a year prior -- when I was pregnant. So what was the problem? I opted for a second opinion after another review I read on another site suggested that things were made up in an effort to create more revenue regardless if the patient needed it.

The second opinion was enlightening to say the least. First, I have two confirmed cavities diagnosed by laser and a thorough look through -- something North Springs did not do and used xray only. So from 6, of which 4 were nonexistent down to 2. Second I HAVE A CRACKED TOOTH that I could clearly see with the camera both offices use. This was never found nor mentioned with the brief exam at North Springs. The cost to have that fixed was significantly less based on the same dental insurance and the cracked tooth needed build-up where the amalgam falling out crown that was done at this office did not. I might also mention that the CERAC system that this and the North Springs office use is a generation behind in the way it makes/forms crowns. I can see a noticeable difference from either teeth I had done.

My baby tooth does NOT need to be pulled out this very instant and in fact, it would be wiser to bring the mama tooth down after it does fall out with braces which has a 50/50 chance of working and perhaps not nearly as costly as an implant. My baby tooth still works for now so my philosophy is why fix what isn't broken?

To readers of this site:

This is in response to the complaint posted by Barbara Pate on March 27th 2010.

Our office prides ourselves on the fact that we do whatever we can to make dentistry more affordable for our patients. This includes offering a dental plan for our patients who don't have dental insurance, which, when enrolled, will offer a discount on any dental treatment rendered in our office ranging from 20 to 50 percent. This discount includes savings of anywhere from $250 to $550 for a single crown.

Signing up for this plan is NOT mandatory, and patients can choose to pay full price for treatment if that is preferred. All materials state that it is totally voluntary, and on the same page it also goes over the annual enrollment fees for the plan. We also assist our patients with their out of pocket expense by offering several different payment arrangements and promotional coupons to use towards their dental treatment.

Patients at our office are required to sign a financial arrangement before any treatment is rendered. On the financial arrangements, we list the price of the service at our full fee as well as the price using the discount plan showing the savings amount. In order for the patient to receive the discounted rate they must fill out and sign an application for the dental plan at the time of service.

We do our best to be as clear as possible when going over financials with our patients, and encourage our patients to ask as many questions as needed to fully understand the fees.

Sincerely,

Sam - Office Manager
