Sunrise Senior Living - PayRoll

Well I work at a sunrise in MD. What started out as a part-time waitress job for a high school grade turned into a LIVING HELL! before I even started at sunrise I worked in a similar environment at an Erickson home and I LOVED IT. But had to quit because I moved. I got the job at sunrise making 8.00 but when i left Erickson, i left at a rate of 8.25. But I thought after my year I would be bumped up to where i should truly be. i started in April, which means my evaluation should have been in April. i had asked my manager about the issue and he said to me that he would look into it. April past and may approached. still nothing. June came along and i asked again. he then stated that he was no longer the one who dose the evaluations and that H.R. was in-charge of that type of thing and that was the NEW THING!. so i waited! (what else could i do?) mid-July i got fed up and went to H.R. to ask then what the hell was going on and the lady of H.R. looked at me like i was crazy when i asked and then tried explaining to me that my manager indeed was in-charge of the evaluation. The next day i received my evaluation. Now there are people that are coming in the job with no experience what so ever because this is their first job and they are making more money then me! i work 75+ hrs and i have no type of benefits. it was in October when i decided to talk to H.R. about trying to find me a new position because i was not being treated the way that i thought i should be treated. but i expressed that my main problem was that i wasn't making any money. a friend of mines (a white girl) was with me while we had the talk simply because we both were in the same boat. But funny thing is I DID ALL THE TALKING!?! a week passed and guess who got a raise? It damn sure wasn't the black girl writing this damn letter, who has almost 4+yrs experience in waitressing with the elderly, who works 75+hrs, who travels 32 miles whether on 4 buses or a train and 3 buses and by car just to get there. it was my white friend who work 50-60hrs every two weeks, only works 5 days a week and sometimes not even that, and calls off when her dog is sick! WTF?

There is a demand for your services and I would recommend looking for a different place to work. At this point this company is just stringing you along. negotiate your salary upfront. If you get a better offer, take it to your employer and ask them to beat if. If they won't take the new job with better pay.

The people in your profession are grossly underpaid.
