CommonLit A Mixed Bag: My Review of CommonLit's Reading and Comprehension Website

CommonLit is a website that's supposed to help you with your reading and comprehension skills. But let me tell you, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. If you mess up the first question, you're pretty much screwed for the rest of the quiz. And that's not even the worst part. The questions themselves are so vague and confusing that you'll be scratching your head in frustration.

I mean, come on, CommonLit, what were you thinking? You're supposed to be helping us learn, not making us feel dumb. And don't even get me started on the articles. They're so boring and dry that I'd rather watch paint dry.

But I guess it's not all bad. The website does have a lot of resources and articles to choose from, so you're bound to find something that interests you. And the fact that it's free is definitely a plus.

Overall, I'd say CommonLit is worth checking out if you're in need of some reading practice. Just be prepared to be frustrated by the vague questions and boring articles.

CommonLit CommonLit Review: More Focused on Avoiding Mistakes than Learning

So, I heard about this website called CommonLit from my teacher and decided to give it a try. I have to say, my friends and I are not big fans of it. It seems like the website is more focused on making sure you don't get anything wrong, rather than actually teaching you how to get it right. If you make even one mistake, it can really hurt your score. Plus, unlike other websites like IXL, CommonLit doesn't explain what you got wrong, so you're left to figure it out on your own.

Another thing that really bothers me is that if you have two accounts - one for school and one personal - and you accidentally sign in with the wrong one, you can't try again with Google. It's frustrating because it seems like such a simple fix, but it's not an option.

I will say that the website is free, which is a plus, but I don't think it's worth it. I would recommend looking for other resources instead.

CommonLit CommonLit's Grading System is Unfair and Discouraging for Young Readers

I gotta say, CommonLit is not my favorite reading website out there. I mean, seriously, you get a D for just one measly mistake? That's even worse than IXL, and that's saying something. This website has made me so frustrated with reading, it's not even funny. I used to love reading, but now I dread it because of CommonLit's ridiculous grading system.

I mean, come on, CommonLit, cut us some slack! Just because we miss one question doesn't mean we're complete failures. I've missed questions before that I just couldn't understand, and it made me feel like the dumbest kid in the world. And don't even get me started on the website average. I got an A in reading in my first trimester, but my CommonLit average was a measly 60.84, or a D-. That's just not fair.

Honestly, this website just instills a fear of mistakes in kids, and that's not how we should be teaching them. We should be encouraging them to learn from their mistakes, not punishing them for them. I've found other reading websites that actually make reading fun again, and I've seen my grades improve because of them. So, sorry CommonLit, but you're just not cutting it for me.

CommonLit CommonLit: A Frustrating Waste of Time for Students

I just don't understand why schools have to use this CommonLit website. It's just so frustrating! I mean, I get that they want us to read and learn, but the stories and questions on there are just ridiculous. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've read a story and then been asked some completely random question that has nothing to do with anything.

For example, one of the questions I saw was "How does Nicholas Gray respond to human's treatment of animals?" Like, seriously? Who cares about that? Why does it matter how the author feels about how we treat animals? It's just so pointless.

I really wish schools would pick something else to teach us about. CommonLit is just a waste of time. I mean, I get that they want us to learn, but this is not the way to do it. The stories are boring and the questions are just ridiculous.

To the creator of CommonLit, I have to say that this is the worst app you could have created. I mean, seriously, what were you thinking? You could have made something that was actually useful and interesting, but instead you made this garbage.

Overall, I would not recommend CommonLit to anyone. It's just a waste of time and it's not going to help you learn anything. If you want to learn something, find a different website or app to use. Trust me, you'll be much better off.

CommonLit CommonLit: The Free Curriculum That Changed My Classroom Forever!

I gotta say, my school made a big mistake by choosing some fancy-pants English program that was a total nightmare for both me and my students. We tried it out for a while, but it was just too dang unfriendly and my kids weren't learning squat after just a few units. So when I heard about CommonLit, a free curriculum that was supposed to be the bee's knees, I figured why not give it a shot?

And let me tell ya, I'm so stinkin' glad I did!

The lessons are super easy to follow, and my kids are actually engaged and interested in what they're learning. Plus, it's all accessible for them, which is a huge plus in my book. Sure, there are a lot of worksheets (I prefer to have my kids do everything by hand, but there's an online option too if that's your thing), but my students have really appreciated the clear instructions and the routine of reading a text (sometimes more than once for different reasons), analyzing it for specific traits, and writing responses. And the variety of texts is just amazing - my kids are reading nonfiction, stories, poems, reviews, and more all in the same units. Each unit is built around a theme, so they're not just learning skills, they're also connecting what they're learning to their own lives. And let me tell ya, their reading and writing skills have improved like crazy since we started using CommonLit. I can't recommend it enough!
