I had the most horrific experience ever at the ER here. I was wrongly held for alleged but non existent suicidal ideation in violation of the law, was not provided lawfully required notice of rights, was diagnosed and informed that I was being involuntarily held for two weeks by a person who was not even a medical doctor, was refused access to an attorney, was refused any type of writing device (even a crayon) or paper, was not allowed to contact a patient advocate or supervisor, on one day was not fed, had no access to clean drinking water (no cups not even paper cups) or ready access to a bathroom, suffered diarrhea and was left sitting on feces covered blanket for the whole of my stay, was not allowed to access my phone to obtain my own physicians telephone numbers (nor were they willing to obtain these for me), was not allowed to contact my son to tell him where house key was hidden and he was forced to sleep in car (they would also not call him for me). They refused to allow me to refuse medical evaluation or care which Texas law clearly states you have a right to refuse, they did not provide me any of my medications (which are not to be stopped abruptly). I was told I had No legal or civil rights and specifically told I had fewer rights than a prisoner, was tainted by the charge nurse who repeatedly attempted to get me to say or do something inappropriate so that she would then actually have a reason to hold me against my will (I did nothing inappropriate and only stated that I intended to file complaints and sue). I was not seen by a medical doctor to determine my true “psychiatric” status within the lawfully allowed time, and when I was finally seen and released they continued to hood me against my will by claiming that my clothing was locked up and they had no key as an employee had “accidentally” taken the key home. I went home in a hospital gown and socks, still covered in feces. I was not provided access to basic toiletries such as soap or toothbrush (even supervised access). I was not allowed a mask and contracted Covid during the stay. Nursing staff did not wear gloves or wash hands. When I asked to speak to supervisor above the Nurse Ratchet like “charge nurse” she insisted there was NOBODY in the entire hospital with authority above her. None of the staff wore name badges identifying their credentials titles role or even initials. For all I know I was being “treated” by other patients or custodial staff. It was a horrific experience. I am still in shock.

Country of complaint: United States

Desired outcome: Meeting with upper level hospital supervisors, discipline of all staff violating policy, procedure, protocol, and state or federal law. Training and policy implementation to prevent this from happening to others,
