Rove Pest Control Poor quality service; deceptive billing

Beware when you deal with this company. If you sign up for a year service, they will sneak an extra, fifth, service call right before the 12-month contract expires. Thought I signed up for four service calls - one for each season - but the sales rep spread out the calls to fit in five for the year.
The service itself was poor. I had them out for ants, and the service did practically nothing. I had them come back out and re-treat a few times, but to no avail. Finally gave up with the extra calls and decided to ride out the contract.
They will charge you cancellation fees even if you move.
Not a business I would recommend from either a quality of service prospective, or a customer service prospective.

As you all can see, Rove is quick to make excuses for their own deceptive practices. Although they tell you one thing (4 service calls), they will write down another (5 service calls) and put the onus on the customer to spot it buried in the contract ("it is always important to review the service months as detailed in the service calendar").

And rather than own up to it, they tell you flat out that once they catch you with an extra service call, changing things is "complex." Don't trust this company, you've been warned by me and others on this board, and now by the very company itself.

Thank you for your feedback Rover-r 'n out. As a company we are always looking for opportunities to improve our service offering and customer service. I'm sorry to hear there was not a continued request for assistance with the ant population. Standard procedure is to work on killing off the ant colony instead of repelling it. Since many species of ants have colonies containing hundreds of thousands of ants, this can take a long time. Having had years of experience in the pest control industry, I recommend continuing to utilize extra services between regularly scheduled treatments (especially when they are free of charge as corresponds to most of our service offerings). As for the number of services, it is always important to review the service months as detailed in the service calendar. It is always easier to make adjustments to pricing to incorporate special programs at the beginning rather than in the middle of service. Switching treatment protocol and procedures after a specific one has begun can be complex. We currently provide an explanation of services to be rendered including frequency via telephone, on-site technician, and a one-page written explanation. We will look into how other explanatory reinforcements may be added to the mix to improve clarity. Please call us with any questions or additional suggestions. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you again for your business & feedback.

Pest control companies have moved up high on my list of ripoff artists...but your story is a new one I haven't heard before. I refuse to agree to anything but a single trip. Then I can see if they are effective. Most companies won't do that. So...eff 'em. They can kiss my foot. I found out I can educate myself and find better products that (get this) they can't even use because of their license restrictions on what they can apply. As a result, I have better pest control then ever. I just get the stuff I need on line and do it myself. The stuff I use to kill black widows will surely annhiliate ants in a minute...I aint seen an ant around here in years - widows neither. Its safe as can be and it ships to almost every state. You pbviously know how to use the internet. Educate yourself. And you'll get the job done for way way less.

Rove Pest Control Bad service, billing ripoff

I contracted with Rove Pest control (Minneapolis, St. Paul MN area) in 2010 to kill the small black ants that were taking over my lawn and landscape. For two seasons they came out every month (and more as I had to keep calling them back) to exterminate the ants. That's all I wanted done, and after two years they made no progress. The ants were never gone or even reduced in number. Nearly $100 a month for two full seasons and they accomplished nothing. My calls of complaint were always greeted with sorry excuses. I found a product online (called DeltaGard) and in the spring of 2012, as the ants were still there, in full force, I applied the DeltaGard - and I am not endorsing a product here - for a about 6 weeks. One 20lb bag and the ants were gone. Gone, period, for about $30. Rove is a ripoff, they did nothing to solve the problem for two years, and at considerable expense to me. To add insult to injury, when I informed them several times (via phone and email) that I did not want their service any longer, they refused to listen to me and insisted that I did not properly 'notify' them. They kept sending me bills for service (that they did not perform) and when I refused to pay they sent a collection agency after me. Do yourself a favor and find and EFFECTIVE and HONEST company to deal with. Rove Pest Control is a dishonest and despicable company to deal with. Search the web and you will find others whom this company has ripped off as well.

Rove Pest Control Fraudulent Bussiness Practices

On 07/21/11 at 6:05 P.M. an individual by the name of Otto came to my door unsolicited to sell me the Rove Pest Control service. The sales tactics were extremely high pressure and arm twisting. Otto would not leave my property unless I signed a service agreement. His sales pitch was that I could think about it and cancel anytime within 3 days. I signed the agreement and Otto provided me a contract with his name and out of state phone number clearly printed on the contract, [protected]. Otto stated that I should call him if I decided to cancel.
On 07/22/11 at 12:56 p.m. I phoned Otto and canceled the contract. I have phone verification and documentation.
On 07/22/11 at 6:00 p.m. I came home to find a bill in my door from Rove Pest Control in the amount of $95.34 stating service was provided at 5:25 p.m. This bill violates both the contract 3 day cancelation period and Minnesota state statues thus making the contract a breech. Further I canceled the contract within my rights and did not authorize any service.
In the days after 07/22/11 I was harassed repeatedly via telephone at work by Mr. Rob Greer, owner/manager of Rove Pest Control in Woodbury MN. Mr. Rob Greer via phone calls to my place of work made numerous threats of collections, courts and other methods to get me to pay $95.34 for services I did not authorize or see take place. Mr. Rob Greer insisted I pay immediately over the phone by credit card, that he would not accept any other form of payment. I made it clear to Mr. Rob Greer that I had canceled the service within my rights and did not wish any future service. Mr. Rob Greer agreed if I would make payment that day by credit card for the unauthorized service provided. I made the payment of $95.34 by credit card transaction to stop the harassment and move on. Per Mr. Rob Greer’s statements on the phone I was entitled to treatment of the inside of the home as part of the $95.34 payment.
On 08/24/11 at 3:45 p.m. I found another bill in my door from Rove Pest Control. This time the amount was for $119.98! I contacted Mr. Rob Greer and refused to pay it.
On 09/28/11 at 3: 46 p.m. I receive a phone call from Mr. Rob Greer again at my place of work trying to solicit payment from me. Again I refuse.
On 10/03/11 at 7:08 p.m. I received another invoice in the mail from Rove Pest Control so I e-mail Mr. Rob Greer my concerns so I can have the conversations in writing. Again Mr. Greer agrees to cancel the service this time in writing but Mr. Greer claims I still owe $119.98 for the second unauthorized service. I pay the $119.98 after Mr. Greer states in writing that the service is terminated.
On 10/4/11 I receive by mail an invoice in the amount of $215.96 of which $14.36 is Minnesota sales tax. This amount is above and beyond the monies I have already paid. The invoice states that this sum is for a cancelation fee. Also Mr. Rob Greer is adding sales tax to a fee that provides no goods or services. This is in direct conflict with the state tax laws and the Minnesota Department of Revenue. In addition to the invoice Mr. Rob Greer sent a copy of the forged contract that he is trying to enforce. The contract Mr. Greer has in his possession is clearly different than the contract I was given by Otto at my door step on 07/21/11.
In addition to the entire process being a fraudulent way to collect money, the service that they say they have provided does nothing. I have mice in the home and large amounts of insects all over my house. I have photos of these problems.

I agree with this complaint. They did almost the exact same thing to me. Very dishonest and shameful way to conduct business.
