Somehow due to my own stupidity I wound up with three dogs from this guy.
Dog #1 Born double Cryptorchid. / Male dog, both testicles did not drop into the scrotum.
Dog #2 A female.
Glen said he would provide a free stud service for the female since I was wanting to have some puppies.
Sometime went by me and my two dogs and then a woman/relative to the **** family called Mr. Balog with a terrible situation where the entire family was murdered and the dog was needing a new home. Mr. Balog called me and asked if I would/could adopt her.
I did adopt the dog and gave her good home with intentions to rehome her through a rescue group.
Months later I contacted Mr. Balog about the stud service.
He told me he is no longer offering stud service for the female that I bought from him directly due to someone bringing in a female for stud service that apparently had a nasty disease and killed an entire litter of his own puppies. I guess he does not ask for current vet records before allowing outside dogs into his kennels. Seems sort of strange to allow outside dogs into his kennels without the vet records.
Anyways, I reminded him of the deal we made and he took sometime to reply but when he did he said that he hooked me up with an older female that was ready to breed. I explained to him that this female is older and never bred before, has cataracts and some sort of cancerous tumor hanging from her front leg and not the kind of dog that she be bred. I also explained that He never mentioned that he was backing out of our original deal by me accepting this dog.
I tried to explain to him that I was rehoming the adopted dog and I still want the stud service or to be compensated.
3 years later he never helped with the cost of neutering the male, he never came through with the stud service and refuses to communicate with me. I highly recommend searching elsewhere for a higher quality German shepherd dog. I bet if you mention this post to him by asking if any of his dogs ever get reported back to him as having such issues he will say no. Just ask him the question and do not mention my post. Desired outcome: refund my money for two of the dogs and pay the vet bill for neutering.
The female that I did buy from him has 3 out of four dew claws and has the same issue digesting food as the male that I bought from him. 3 dew claws are normal looking and the fourth looks like some sort of shrivelled dried up something.
All in all, I will not be breeding any of the three dogs due to poor genetics and bad breeding by Mr. Balog and family. He also recommended that I look on Craigslist to find someone offering stud service in exchange for pick of the litter since that is where some of his dogs came from. I have attached pictures of the dried up dew claw and a pic of one of her health dew claws. Also a picture of the tumor on the other dog. The pictures of the cataracts would not show up on the camera. Needless to say, all three of thee dogs should never breed. Some dogs only have two dew claws usually on the front and they are born like that not surgically removed which some people do have done. So to wrap this up if you are looking for a cute puppy at an affordable price that will quite possibly ( 3 out of 3 for me) cost you and your dog way way more in anguish down the road then buy from balogranch.com.
I certainly agree with the other comments concerning Glen Balog's poorly bred german shepherds. My husband and purchased a male puppy from him a little over 4 years ago. We have invested thousands of dollars in professional live-in training trying to teach this dog how to behave. The trainer had to have surgery on his hand from a broken finger our dog gave him. My husband has owned 5 GS dogs so he was very familiar with the breed and raved about them. This dog is not like any of his previous experiences. He is fear aggressive and we have done absolutely nothing to cause this irrational, unpredictable behavior. He has bit my husband twice and now me twice. I currently have 23 puncture wounds and tissue damage in my right hand and forearm. We supposedly had "first pick of the litter," by the way, and yet the day we picked this pup up he acted and appeared to not even be the dog we picked out at 5 weeks old. The pup we picked was by far the largest of the litter and very relaxed when we did several "tests" for temperament. This pup was much smaller than expected especially at 2 weeks older when we picked him up. He was trembling nonstop. We said at the time to Mr. Balog that something wasn't right. He shrugged it off to us like the pup was just nervous leaving his mom. We have given him the best home we could with love, good nutrition, and vet visits. Oh, that's another story right there...the dog has to be under sedation to get his nails trimmed! We started him young, but he was so out of control on these visits the vet said it was the only way to ensure the safety of the dog and his staff. No amount of training or money will make a poorly bred dog like this one be worth the danger he presents to us. We have finally, and regrettfully come to the conclusion it is time to euthanize him. Never ever will we recommend this so called breeder to anyone.
Balog is only about the money. He lies, cheats and basically steals your money. Go ahead and sue me for defamation of character Glenn Balog. I got three of your inferior dogs and a BS health warranty.
So, it's me again. The older male now has a mass/tumour growing in his chest/abdomen that may likely take his life. The older female that he pawned off on me is non fertile. the younger female is most likely the same quality as the previous two dogs. If you think I am kidding please feel free to call me and come take a look.
