Alabama Unemployment Office and Warrior Met Coal review: Owed wages

To the Alabama Department of Labor,

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the handling of my husband Christopher's unemployment claim. Since April, we have repeatedly contacted your office and have consistently been told that everything was in order and that there were no issues with his claim. Despite these assurances, no unemployment benefits have been issued.

Each time we called, we were given the impression that payment was forthcoming, yet weeks turned into months without any explanation or resolution. Had we been informed of a problem, we would have addressed it immediately. Instead, we were repeatedly told that everything was fine while our family continued to suffer financially.

My husband worked faithfully in the mining industry for many years. After suffering serious medical issues, including strokes, he was released by his physician to return to work with temporary restrictions. Rather than honoring his medical release, Warrior Met Coal HR refused to allow him to return under those restrictions and ultimately terminated his employment. We believe this termination was unlawful, and it has resulted in ongoing legal and administrative proceedings.

Because of these circumstances, my husband had no choice but to apply for unemployment benefits. Instead of receiving the temporary assistance intended for workers facing situations like this, our family has been left waiting for months while being repeatedly assured that everything was progressing normally. The delay has caused severe financial hardship, including difficulty paying our lot rent, purchasing necessities, and keeping our household stable.

We respectfully request an immediate review of my husband's unemployment claim, an explanation for the prolonged delay, and prompt payment of any benefits that are owed. We also ask that the Department review how this claim has been handled so that no other family experiences months of uncertainty while being told everything is fine.

Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. We look forward to a prompt response and a fair resolution.
