Complaint Against ABN Amro Bank, Dubai UAE

Subject : Wrongly calculating interest

Type : Falls Credit Card Statement

I am very surprised to see the statement of account for this month. Actually my credit card amount payable was AED 1746.50, I paid AED 1700 through ATM machine. When I saw this month statement, I was fined AED 52 for the amount against AED 46 which I not paid. This is very surprising to see that interest has to be charge on the amount which I not paid. BUT YOUR BANK IS FINED ME rather taking interest unpaid amount. Same is done with my other visa card as well. You don't have the system of payment where (ATM Machine) I can full payment (In Fills). As a client I am punctual on making payment (always before 15 days of last date). THIS FINE IS NOT At all DIGESTIBLE FOR ME.

Hi my name is Dhara, I am very very very dissatisfied with the way ABN Amro Rewards work, they tell me to call on 1st of each mont to gain the rewards (tickes to Sky dubai ) between 9am to 6pm Sunday to Thursday, today is 1st of July and it is 9am in my watch i called up ABN Amro Rewards Number [protected]) i get to listen to an automated system saying that the lines are not yet open call during the working hours, i call up again after 5 mins (9:05 am in my watch ) the number is constantly busy i tried and i treid and i tried till 10:05 am in my watch) i could never get through the number it kept on comming busy then i called up the customer service number provided to me during the time of opening a credit Card [protected]), to complain about the issue they say that there is only one number and as of now there is some technical problem in that number and there is nothing that thay can do about it finally after a constant try at 10:20 am I was successful in getting through the Rewards number but then i was told that the alloted tickets are already over try next month My Question is that if there was a technical problem then how did the alloted tickes got over? to tell you very frankly this is the worst bank one can ever deal with i have never been given such false promises before, the way ABN Ambo gives. God Bless to all the other unlucky card holders like me.

Thank You
Dhara Shah

I have to agre with Dhara and would like to say that I have spent hours on hold for making movie reseravtions on the hotline - 3662242. This is totally ridiculous and unacceptable.

We are 4 of us holding abn ambro gold credit cards and will definitely cancel asap! I will ensure that I send this complaint to Gulf news about how ABN AMBRO cheats its customers.

Some times at places where ABN has no roots & we do the payment with our friends/family over in dubai..

The banks most of them in uae take undue advantage of their clients, and over charge them. This country, its really difficult to approach the court to redress your problems easily. Bulk of the residents are expatriates ((80%) who are already working and do not have neither the time or money. Now the scenario is worsened with high inflations, there is hardly any chance for them to have a lawyer to fight their cases. Lawyers are one of the most expensive in the world, by any standard. The banks in general are really happy with the current situations, because they know for sure that no one will have the wherewithals to fight them through a court of law and this is one of the reason, banks such as ABN and others are brazen. The law is real tough and its quite natural that you can end up in a lockup for defaulting a payment. Banks dont spare. Only thing they do is to have the offender arrested and let the poor person lanquish in the jail. When will someone really start thinking for the people at large, where the whole economy is commercially driven with scant respect for humanity. God save the people!. God save uae!. God save the poor expatriates from the bank sharks

hi im marlene, i am very much disappointed with abn amro bank. im holding visa card from them for less than a year before. When i went on vacation last year i used my card to purchased my ticket and put it in installment. During this period, i paid my monthly bill ahead of time but i've been charged monthly for insurance i had never subscribed. Every month i need to call the customer service number for the reversal until the time im about to leave for vacation..i spoke to one in the customer care to verify the amount i need to pay to settle my balances after the reversal i had requested..then i paid the full amount he mentioned as my current balances..so im not worried to pay anything when i return from vacation..but i was very surprised that the bank keeps on sending me sms message while im out of the country following up to settle my current balances. until then i received my statement when i got back..the amount i requested for reversal was not reversed so they charged me for the late payment fee of AED 150..imagine that the outstanding amount is the insurance fee cost of AED 26 that i had requested for reversal before i leave for vacation in which they had confirmed to me that its already reversed. I am not really happy with their service so i decided to cancel my card. Everybody is right that they alsways have hidden charges and you'll always surprise for that. NO with AMB AMRO

Staff woriking in the Customer Service are very incompitent and provide wrong information.

ABN Amro has a policy to charge Pre-Closure Penalty as well as all the interest for the entire loan amount when customer pays off his smart cash loan early.

That means if I pay my loan in installments (say 6 months), I wil pay less (pre-closure penalty amount) than I would pay if I settle all payments in one month.

The whole purpose of the pre-closure penalty is that customer is penalized for not paying the interest, but if he is paying full interest for all six months (loan period), he is doing a favour to the bank and bank is not loosing any interest, but bank discourages customer to pay early by penalizing him with an early closure charges.

The bank representative has no answer when I asked the reason for the early closure charges, if the bank is charging interest for the six months anyway.

I totally agree with ABN/RBS cheating people.

I had seen to it that my credit card gets auto debited every month so that I needn't worry about late payments. I finally find out that my bank account was switch to dormant on the false pretense of it not having any transactions. Why in the world would I want to put more money into a bank I do not trust?
Every month it was auto-debited my account. Isn’t that a transaction**in itself?

**Definition: The act of conducting or carrying out (business, negotiations, plans); A deal or business agreement; An exchange or trade, as of ideas, money, goods, etc; The transfer of funds into, out of, or from an account; An atomic operation; a message, data modification, or other procedure that is .

I have gone on a strike. I don’t intend to pay anything until they solve my issue it three month and it’s still being shuttled from one division to another. It’s not a matter of AED179 on each my cards any more.
This is injustice and just because poor people cannot stand up to these pirates due to lack of time. I will see to it that they cannot block the voice of the people. I need every ones help. Please contact me. I intend to go to the press with this and also the courts if necessary.

hey guys what happen are you people discussing about RBS BANK. thes people are devils and worst bank their recovery dept thinks that they are kind of police men keep on sending msg and torching you, they are draculas who leave the person to die or commit sucide. i have option for you peoples . if they are trying to suck your blood by keep on calling and sending msg. just give them a simple answer that if the bank wants to send my file to [p;oce case tell them to go ahead and do it as soon as possible wthout waist of time and the law will not keep you more then one or two days in jail and for the best hire one legal dept lawyer and then see how you can tackle the banks try it you will fell the diffrence. not only this but few more are also there. like MASHREQ BANK, NBD, NBQ, all of that i should say NO to credit cards and NO to personal loan really me life is in nightmare i am just waiting for the banks to file the case against me this is the way how i can get rid of all these credit cards and personal loan. see if you guys have any other solution to get rid of these credit cards and personal loans

FGB CREDIT CARD DUPING CUSTOMERS GIVING FALSE PROMISES

Dear All,

Please beware of first gulf bank credit card, they promise that they wont charge any lifetime membership & dupe you saying there is a special scheme & new brochures are not yet released, I applied for their creidit since one of my colleages requested me & the FGB lady also assured me 100 times that even there was it would be written off or reversed. One of my colleages annual fee got waived off & when i requested for the waiver they gave me a blunt excuse that they did that due to goodwill and now they wont.so guys i got cheated by one fraudulent sales lady in FGB. PLEASE DONT FALL TO THEIR TRAP . even if i use the world's most filthiest works against will never matter since they are out there to dupe people. Take mashreq RAK DUBAI bank. Pay the installments in time, then having a credit is safe, otherwise get ready to be trouble. hope this will help someone!

ABN AMRO has reputation for cheating its Credit Card customers. I have a dispute on my credit card which I am still fighting for the past 3 months. I would suggest you follow the following steps to resolve your disputes with this crooked bank:

You always want to have a paper trail:

Step 1: Visit their branch and ask the person you meet for their business card so you can send a courier. (They will certainly refuse and ask you to mail to their P.O.Box address! If you send to their P.O.Box there is no proof that sent them anything and they will simply deny receiving anything from you!)

Step 2: Note down their names from their badges, lookup their website for their branch address and send a letter to that person by courier. Even if it is a rough address, your courier company can still deliver as RBS is well known. For eg:
Mr.xxx,
ABN AMRO BANK CARDS DIVISION (ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND),
KHALID BIN WALEED STREET, DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
TEL: +[protected]
FAX: +[protected]

Make sure you mention "to be delivered in person" and get signed acknowledgements. Your letter should clearly explain the dispute and how much you are willing to settle for. You still will not receive any reply from them.

Step 3: Send a letter to the UAE Country Manager (This could be easily found through Google search) referencing the above letter. He would most probably forward it to their "Service Quality Unit" who might call you to resolve the matter.

Step 4: Most probably by now your issue might have been addressed. If not, stop paying your monthly payments. They have no reason to settle if you continue to make timely payments. Most credit card companies only settle when they believe that if they don't make some kind of deal, they won't see a penny from you.

Ignore threats. At some point, your account will be turned over to a collection agency that may call threatening to take legal action. Most agencies won't go to the effort and expense of actually filing a lawsuit. Make an offer and expect that your first offer will be refused. Take your time. Dont show you are eager to settle. Every day you wait, your debt gets older and harder to collect, and your creditors are more likely to cut their losses. Banks are tough with those who want to pay and gentle with those who tell them to get lost!

Meantime you can file a complaint against them with the UAE Central Bank at http://www.centralbank.ae/complaints/complaints.php

Threaten them that you will write to Gulf News/Khaleej Times/7 Days newspapers.

Hi everyone, i want to share my FGB nightmare. I am one of the customer of FGB that has been ill treated by the collection manager. During the recession early in January, they reduced the credit limit of everyone by 50%. Because of this i was overlimit, they told me they would not charge but they did, but i still paid until April (their minimum was raised to more than 5k and i told them that i could not pay that amount and asked them to have someone contac tme to reduce my monthly even if thay have to add interest.) They gave me the collection department(CD) number in AD but i couldnt get through. I told the CSR to have someone contact me since i failed to pay in April and i want to settle down to lesser amount.) CSR reported to me that CD could not get thru my mobile and that is impossible since they CD are the only one who coould not get hold of me. They gave me a number after so many CS emails i sent, and when i get through a certain Mr. Mohammed gave me the Musaffa Police Station number. I was shocked and angered by this. So after calling numerous times in CSR an agent from CD called me and he agreed to send me a form to lower my monthly payment. But after 30mins, his superior who told me he is the manager of the collection department introduced himself as Mr. Veejay shouted at me saying they dont agree and i have to pay my minimum 5k or they will send me to the police (scare tactics). At that time i have no money since my mother was in the hospital in the Philippines (and that i swear to God is NO LIE) so i told them it has to be reduced. I explained the situationa nd all i get in return was to be told that "YOU ARE UNPROFESSIONAL BECAUSE YOU DO NOT PAY ON TIME! That i am not a good customer and that i should close my account ASAP" I was definitely astounded since i told them over and over again i want to settle the matter and i have no plans of running away. However they continued to harass me by calling during working hours that disrupted my work. They told me to call MS. Neha of legal department who in turn shouted at me and sent me sms that if i didnt pay 5k i would be blacklisted and they would file a case. They are true to their word, (it is recession so everyone is nervous about being kickout in their company) they sent a letter to my HR saying i am delinquent in my payments and that FGB have filed a case in court. My HR called me and i explained my situation and they advised me to settle it. I finally paid AED18k in May before my committed date to Ms.Neha (but they sent an sms that IM ALREADY BLACKLISTED and the legal process is going through) so this Ms. Neha informed me that they never really filed at all. During these weeks FGB blocked my card, but i was ASSURED that after paying minimum they will unblock it. But to my surprise, i paid AED18k more and has balance of 5k which up to now i am religiously paying even if they add more interest since i dont want to be delinquent anymore. I called the CD manager and he told me he will AUTOMATICALLY UNBLOCK my card after 3 months (saying its a bank procedure) so i said ok, i have no plans of using the card anymore anyway so i will jsut claim my first points rewards. But up to now its more than 5 months, my card still blocked and the "SENIOR MANAGEMENT FROM THE COLLECTION DEPARTMENT" refuses to unblock it for reasons i do not know. CSR could not give me my FGB First points Rewards since my card is blocked. My question is despite communicating with FGB and paying more than what they asked for and continuing to pay my balance religiously, i do not think i deserve to me called "UNPROFESSIONAL" by the CD Manager because he is not in the right position to judge me. He later denies that he called me that when he get to know that i was recording our conversations. Of course by denying that, it makes me look like a liar which I AM NOT. Maybe, if i am an Arab lady he would say any harsh words to me. I have followed all their instructions and they lied to me by denying my rights as a customer, i have no idea how to check if im still blacklisted, they almost cost me my job, and they caused me too much emotional turmoil. I called the CD manager asking for explanation why card is still blocked. I made enough complaints to the CSR against the CD Manager but it seems that it falling on deaf ears. I do not deserve to be treated as if i owe their bank a lot of money and im running, coz all my emails to them stated i want to settle and they harassed me in return for being an honest customer.

Sir,

I have been in constant touch with ABN amro bank- Dubai for the last 6 years. My husband, Late Ramkumar.N.Panicker had a salary account. He was working in BASF Kanoo-Dubai. Due to his sudden demise, in Agust 24, 2004, the amount which was there in his account, was not given to em, even after producing whatever certificates you asked for. For a Reputed bank, it is a shame that, there is no response from your end. two weeks back i have sent a mail, then fax, then the original copy registered of my letter, asking to release the amount in his name.

I have to look after my two kids who are still studying. Hope there will be some response from your side.My contact No:[protected]. My mail id vinramcool@yahoo.co.in
