I went into my local post office in Fort Smith, Arkansas to apply for my passport. I gave them all the information they asked for and then proceeded to ask if they needed anything else. The lady kept telling me that what I gave was enough (ID, Birth Certificate) she made a copy of my ID, and sent them the original of my birth certificate. Even though I had the passport expedited, I got a letter in the mail saying that the information I gave was not enough to prove my identity. The letter came from the Charleston, SC passport agency. So naturally I was a bit confused and called them. They said I could reapply for a passport somewhere else and just lose the 300$ I paid- which I couldn't do because they had my birth certificate- or I could send them the required documents. They asked for 5, but I went ahead and sent them somewhere around 12 documents including my disability records, hospital records, medicaid papers, HS diploma...and various other documents. I over-nighted all of this information to them- have proof and a name of whomever signed for it. With my flight coming up, I called them again and they told me again that what I sent was enough and that someone is reviewing it. My flight is now tomorrow- and I got another letter in the mail saying that I needed to give them more documents. The people at the 1800 customer service number for Charleston have put in for their 'main office' or whatever to call me but I have not recieved one call regarding my passport. I can't apply for another one because they have all of my information. And no one knows whats going on or how to help the situation. If the main office isn't calling me regarding my status, how am I supposed to know whats going on? All I have gotten was run around in circles with no answers. Waste of time and my money.

Their service center is AWFUL. The person I spoke with was rude, talked over me, and threatened to cancel a family member's passport - who had NOTHING to do with the situation! I can't believe that this is legal! They really need to get their agency organized and have some customer service training BADLY.

I got the same issue I applied for my passport it's been 11 months its still in process and I really don't know wht going on I been calling national passport center they keep telling me it is in process in South Carolina .. I send them letter they didnot respond my letter and my calls and I have to back my country my grand mom is really sick ... I m so frustrated

I got the same issue after sending birth certificate and ID. The sent me a letter demanding more documents. I tried to call and ask for a better explanation on what to send and got no call back, just the same letter copied and mailed to me again. I just sent over a dozen new documents from early childhood. I hope this works.

My husband sent in his passport application and birth certificate in April and when we call to find out what is happening, they tell us that it is "in processing" in the Charleston office and that the only way we can find out the status is to WRITE them. We have a wedding out of the country at the end of January so are starting to freak out a little bit!

I got the same letter u did but only i have waited 4 moths and still no other letter or passport but my online status shows processing and still no birth certificate back any advice? thank you

this agency is more then just incompetent. i've been wating for my passport for more then 5 weeks now and i paid for the expedited services. plus my flight is in 3 days what hell is going on with these people. if i miss my flight because of this im going to find a way to sue their ###.

I am also experiencing the same problem. Their computer systems have been down for over a week and my passport is not to be found. No one at the agency is helpful. No one returns phone calls and the main passport center takes no responsibility for the incompetence of this particular office.

i'm going through the EXACT same thing right now.. they have ALL my documents and now when i call the main number they keep telling me "their system is down so we dont know whats going on.. but theyre processing it" whatever people.. do your jobs!
