So we hired Tom DeSimone as a junior editor for very part time work back in March of 2011 & he seemed really nice & easy to work with.
At first we had him do simple edits which seemed fine, but then as we gave him more complex work to do, he didn't do such a great job.
Then if memory serves me, he disappeared at one point & he apologized & we gave him a second chance.
At one point we asked him if he could write a press release & he said he could, but when we got it back, it wasn't a true press release, it was more like an article. We really don't like it when independent contractors lie to us about their skills, as we waste time & money having to have the work redone.
Again, we let this slide & sent an article about what is supposed to be included in a good press release. Tom DeSimone admitted after looking at it again, that it didn't read like a professional press release.
We gave him some more editing work, but it finally became clear to us that Tom was more of a proofreader & NOT what we needed which was a full blown editor. No problem, we had paid for the work & thought everything was fine, but we got tied up in things & never heard from Tom ever again even though he knew the work he worked on was never completed. Maybe he was waiting for us, but most people we hire check on us if they haven't heard from us in a while.
At that point we figured that Tom really didn't care about working for our company, he just took the work to get some money & that was it, we moved on. Maybe that was the reason for his poor editing skills, we weren't about to speculate, it just didn't seem Tom really cared one way or another. Again, I had no hard feelings towards Tom.
Then several months later we finally got around to closing the contract on odesk & gave Tom an average review, but we weren't angry & our review reflected that. We stated he was a nice person to work with, but we didn't feel it was a good match editing wise. Simple.
So imagine our shock when we read this NASTY review about our company written by Tom DeSimone. I always say, when a person is TOO nice, you have to be careful about them because a lot of the time they are hiding how they TRULY feel. In this situation this was the case.
In Tom's review he warns other independent contractors to stay away from us & complains about our company's policies & procedures (general paperwork & policies of our company that is common in any professional company). He also goes on to say it was very unpleasant dealing with me. WOW, he could have fooled me. I'm usually a VERY good judge of character & since we never had any harsh words & at one point he said he found working at our company very rewarding (I don't remember his exact words) I assumed all was fine, but Tom had me snowed.
He also put us down in that we are a small company & have a limited budget when it comes to how many hours we can give our staff per week, so he put us down for that & then ASSUMED things that weren't true. That we expected him to work miracles in that limited amount of time. Tom was asked to do editing. If he only got 5 pages completed, but those 5 pages were done very well, that would mean more to me than 15 pages edited poorly. If Tom wants to use that as his excuse instead of taking responsibility for his skills, that just shows you his true personality.
This is the reason I decided to write another review of Tom. We did nothing to deserve this terrible review, we don't owe Tom a perfect fantastic review, but obviously if Tom doesn't get what he wants, he bashes our company for it. Just nasty.
I won't tell you not to hire him because that's your choice, I'm just relaying my experience with him which in the end turned out to be very negative, much more negative than just his editing issues.

Tom, at least I don't lie & pretend. You pretended everything was fine, even told me so, then you leave a terrible feedback over what? Nothing. I never did one thing to you, nor acted in any so called unprofessional manner in reference to your terrible feedback. I was also kind & honest with you & maybe that's what you don't like, the honesty. Your editing skills were sub par & maybe you didn't like me bringing that up to you, but companies have the right to tell a worker when they have a problem with them.
As for saying you've never had any problems with anyone else, who knows if you are telling the truth now since you already lied to me before & put on a really good face & then wrote a review about me that was totally shocking. I don't trust people who change their personality from one minute to the next. I'm the same way all the time, upfront & honest.
As for what other negative vindictive independent contractors say online about me because they didn't like my reviews about them... sure, those are the types who refuse to admit their mistakes & lash out online at the boss because they can. They don't have the guts to do it in person which is also one of the reasons they can't get a job offline. They want to be amongst the wild wild west & do whatever they please with no consequences.
They are also the ones who spread lies about me & my company trying to bring us down, but you seem to want to lumped into that same category, so go right ahead, you are officially lumped into the crazy unprofessional category of independent contractors online.
As for my review, I feel other companies should know what you did & since my review on odesk was a positive one for the most part, I felt I should let them decide if they want to hire you or not based on what transpired afterward.
I'm sure you will convince many to hire you, but at least they should hear from one company where it didn't end well.

I see you are still following me all over the Internet harassing me. I can't believe I actually felt sorry for you because of everyone ganging up on you on the blog. Boy I never learn that nasty mean spirited people almost always remain that way.
Hide behind religion my dear, it will get you nowhere. Do people actually think that just because you use prayer that it makes you a positive loving person? After you did what you did to me & countless others? Here's proof people, there are many religious who use religion to hurt others.
This has nothing to do with Tom, Abi is just the type to go around harassing me because she doesn't like the fact that I outed her for who she really is.

which I started, but other people contributed to. How Abi Afolabi hurt so many people by ripping them off. These aren't my words, this is what others wrote about her & I believe them because of what happened when I dealt with her, plus anyone who stalks someone online clearly has serious emotional issues that need to be dealt with.
As you can see, Abi just won't leave me alone & I didn't even do anything to this human (I won't post what I really think of her) other than relay what happened to me when she tried to get me to use her as a mortgage broker.
As for what she posted above, every time I review someone in a negative way, some of those emotionally unstable people retaliate by posting lies about me. It can't be helped. Society is filled with really nasty people, especially people who won't take responsibility for their actions & blame others.

The reason this company is bad to deal with is because of its methods of dealing with customers. The dishonest situation that occured was that a customer would order a book and then Michelle Korn at Exotic Publishing would send the customer a notice saying your information will remain private and they will not share it. However, Michelle Korn of Exotic Publishing will post customers full info (phone numbers, addresses and other private info) without a customers permission or knowledage. She is endangering anyone who has business dealings with her that do not iron out the way she wants it to be.

Michelle Korn of Exotic Publishing is a VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD to deal with. Michelle Korn is very vindictive and if you read her board you will see she is a raging madcap who should not be in business if she does not know how to handle customers who are not happy about something.
I have even had the opportunity to speak with everyone who had a dealing with Michelle whom she posted wrongfully on her board and upon hearing their side of the story it is clear that everything Michelle said at michellereviewsescortagencies.com did not happen the way she said it did.
Most of the ones she is flaming on her website at michellereviewsescortagencies.com said that they asked for their money back when they encountered her unfriendly manner and to their surprise Michelle Korn turned even more belligerent towards them. One of the customers mentioned that when they called her she was immediately unfriendly and harsh to them and was quick to be flipant at the mouth about how much her time was important and she trailed off into a self absorbant story about her expectations.

I hear you and you certainly are aware you are not the only one.
Michelle remains Michelle until Michelle sees the need to change. We can all pray for her,
For now, I encourage you to move on doing your business and not allow Michelle to drag you into an endless negative and unproductive dialogue. Most people choose and have good positive things to do with their lives..
Also noteworthy: oDesk doesn't show a contractor the feedback their employer has left for them until AFTER the contractor has already left their own feedback to the employer. i.e, I didn't leave my negative review to get revenge for Michelle's feedback to me. It was simply my honest feedback, without knowledge of her assessment of me. oDesk operates this way in order to prevent so-called "vindictive contractors" (or employers) from leaving vengeful feedback.

Michelle is the only employer I've ever had a bad experience with. I stand by my negative review of her as an employer on oDesk. A little bit of research into Michelle Korn and her business, "Exotic Publishing, " will reveal that I am certainly not the first person to have such an experience. She is not professional, perhaps as evidenced in this complaint she posted about my negative feedback. And I am the vindictive one? You decide.
