My husband plowed snow for SAL's this past winter because Stephen Lopez (the company's owner) was a business contact of his and offered him the extra work. We were expecting our first child and my husband took the job because he knew Steve and we needed the extra money.
Steve was an extremely volatile man on the job, and all the workers knew to not get on his bad side - which was apparently very easy to do. Once the work was done, Steve never contacted my husband to give him his pay. It took much longer than the 30 days he promised my husband (as well as the several men whom Steve had my husband recruit for work) for Steve to actually pay, and that was after my husband had to call him several times. He also conveniently short-changed my husband by several hundred dollars. My husband let that slide because at the time he wanted to be able to work with Steve more in the future and did not want him to be annoyed with him. Steve also promised my husband that he would be paid from the time he arrived on the site to the time he left, but later contacted the friends my husband had recruited and claimed that they were only being paid for the time they got to plow - which totalled only a couple hours, even though he made these men sit in an office for over 20 hours waiting for a plow to be free.
When the time had long since passed for Steve to pay my husband, he intentionally avoided my husband. When my husband did manage to get a hold of Steve, Steve would swear at him and tell him "this isn't a priority for me." It was as though he thought my husband did the work for him because he just loved him so much and wasn't actually expecting to get paid for it.
Eventually, Steve told my husband to meet him at his house so he could pay him. My husband went by, rang the doorbell, and Steve threw the door open and started swearing and threatening my husband for ringing his doorbell - even though he had told him an hour earlier on the phone to meet him at his house. He threw a check at my husband and told him that he was gonna "put a bullet in his head" if he heard from him again.
Since that time, Steve has contacted my husband about 3 times out of the blue, slandering and threatening him. He has even left messages for my husband saying derogatory things about me and our 4 month old son. I've never even met or talked to the guy. He's attacked our religious beliefs on numerous occasions as well - whatever he can get a hold of. Steve no longer comes to the meetings that several business in the area hold on a weekly basis - I would assume because he is embarrassed. He's practically had to cut ties with several business contacts in the area because he is too ashamed to be in the same room as my husband. And yet he still continues to send my husband abusive messages and phone calls. If you are considering using this man for snow plowing or excavating, I would warn you that he is an extremely abusive and hot-tempered man, and he does not make good on promises. I would not recommend anyone ever work for this man. My husband and I are most likely going to have to take out a restraining order against him because it's gotten to the point where I am afraid he will try to come by our home.
Scottec3, sounds pretty ridiculous to tell someone who was mistreated by an employer "Well, that never happened to ME, so you must be lying." You must not be looking very hard if you're not finding people who are familiar with Steve acting like this. My husband and the two men he recruited all attest to the fact that Steve blew up on guys on a regular basis (also, several men in the small business group Steve USED to attend told my husband they were sorry Steve treated him like that, and indicated that he's always had a temper and not to take it personally). My husband also has several abusive and sometimes threatening Facebook messages saved from Steve, which I would be delighted to post. That's great if this guy never treated you like that. Pretty naive to think that means he never treated ANYONE like that.
Also, I'm not sure if you're claiming that Steve was not on any jobs because his wife was 9 months pregnant. If you are, you're mistaken and I would assume you did not work with him this past winter, because by the time the snow came, his baby was already born and he was on at least 2 jobs almost the entire time. Though from the way your response is worded - and judging by the fact that when I look at your profile, you have absolutely no history on this site - I am betting you're probably actually Steve, googling your name to see what comes up. I mean, "He was home takeing care of his wife all winter cause she was 9 months with there first born kid." Sounds a lot like Steve. What snow plougher remembers that intimate detail about a seasonal employer who supposedly isn't around often? Pretty pathetic.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
On September 06, 2016, I experienced the psychotic wrath of Stephen A. Lopez. Stephen and I needed to discuss some delinquent financial issues. When I calmly in-formed Stephen that I am tired of the lies, he blew his top. He jumped to his feet, got in my face and SCREAMED at me "WATCH IT! DON'T CALL ME OR MY WIFE A F***ING LIAR!" When I attempted to inform Stephen that I did not directly call anyone a liar, I only said "I am tired of the lies, " Stephen only became increasingly more hostile. He got closer to my face and threatened to break my f***ing jaw! This violent outburst was overhead by all of Stephen's employees. Stephen then ordered me to get my f***ing butt his off f*** property. Subsequently, I obeyed his demand. I gladly left his dump.
What a pitiful excuse of a man, to use such filthy, vulgar, disgusting language. People who use this type of language are of sub par intelligence. I feel sorry for his son. I won-der if Stephen uses such vulgar language in front of his son.
Stephen has no respect for anybody. I am old enough to be this psychopath's father, and this is the way he speaks to me. He threatens to break my f***ing jaw. How would he like somebody to speak to him in that manner? Obviously, respect for his elders means nothing to Stephen. However, he expects his employees to respect him. I am very happy to no longer be working for that psychopath. He certainly does hire some real winners for employees.
I have no doubt that if the scenario were reversed, and I owed Stephen money, for months, he would be at my house threatening to put a bullet through my head, much in the same way he threatened quorrapaolo, the original poster in this forum.
I agree with quorrapaolo in his theory that the posting by scottec3 is actually a posting by Stephen. A child in grammar school could write better than the person who wrote that mess. Whoever wrote that mess should go back to grammar school to learn some basic English skills.

I am now in the process of contacting local law enforcement. It is my desire to determine if I have grounds to file a peace order against this psychopath. I am quite concerned that the psychopath may come to my residence in the dead of night, break in, and put a bullet through my head while I sleep. I do not want this nut job anywhere my property.

I just discovered this thread devoted to Steve Lopez. I have known Steve for about 5 years. In that time I have learned that Stephen is all for himself. He lacks empathy for others. He makes empty promises. When the person he made the promise to calls Steve out on his empty promise, Steve becomes enraged. He may be bi-polar. He can be nice one minute, then become enraged over a little thing. Steve has a very violent temper, and he also brags about owning many guns. That is not a very good combination.
With all of the enemy's Steve has made, it is surprising that nobody has put a bullet through his head.! I am going to share this thread with some other people who know Steve. They may want to post more information!
Steve has the character of a used car salesman. He drops all kinds of money down in snow equipment praying for snow. Why? Because he has no real skills and could never make anything if not for mindless snow removal. He hires unemployable people with even less going for them than he has so he can maintain control. His employee lists includes people that could never hold jobs with any real business. We're not talking about just kids. We're talking about filthy wellfare collecting 40 year olds. Lay down with dogs and you get fleas. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to out my feet up and relax. Your husband sounds like he sniffed out the real Lopez. Good for him, and never go back.
First off, i work for steve this year plowing snow and nothing like that happen. He was home takeing care of his wife all winter cause she was 9 months with there first born kid. Ive was been paid way befor 30 days so sounds like another lie. I mean none of this makes any sence. Maybe you should take time in getting your stories right befor you open your mouth. Its pretty funny how everyone else that works for him full time or just plow snow has no problems with him.. I think its just YOU
