I live in a gated residence, with video surveillance, in a townhouse. A small family of 3 people. The billing was steady between $80-$120 from June 2016 when I bough the place until early 2021.

The last year (in 2021), the bill started increasing without explanation, until the first 2022 bill had charges for 4 times more than usual. I called South California Edison asking explanation.

First the Edison employee that took my call started with theories of me using more for heating and so on... a series of fabricated non-sense assumptions. One of the outrageous bills was for the times that I was in Italy with my kids, and the house was empty. Then the Edison person started theorizing how somebody else broke into my house during my absence, to steal my electricity. I told him that I've video surveillance in the house with an app in my iPhone, and I can see my house on my phone 24/7 from anywhere in the world. Then, I gave detailed information about my small household and limited usage of the electricity: going to bed at 8:30-9pm with school age children, small refrigerator, no TV 6 days a week, using the only gas stove and gas water heater in the house, etc, etc. They said that they need to check their meter. if it was malfunctioning, but I had to wait 30 days for their technician to check the meter. Only a few days after my call, I got a letter stating that the meter is fine, and the charges stand.

This months bill is about half of the last one, and a response to my call since there isn't any change whatsoever in the usage of the electricity in the house.

I won't stop with this complaint. Edison is defrauding. I'll get to the bottom of this. I overpaid thousands of dollars for electricity last year, and Edison has no excuse to not correct their wrongdoing.

Desired outcome: Refund of at least 70% of the charges collected in the last 12 months, and correct billing from then on.

Where do you go to get help with this issue. And how do you go about fighting it. We have a bill for over $4k. We work, get out the house by 8:45 am and back between 10 and 12 pm . This just doesn’t make any sense. What department is over the electric companies.

I work as a bookkeeper in Ventura Ca. Today we received in the mail a So Cal Edison crit on our account over $3,300.00for overcharges from the end of 2021 and beginning of 2022. Our sister company also received a credit that was less but still over $2,000.00. Here is what I want to know... why didn't So Cal Edison send a check instead of issue a credit? Where is all that cash. I also wonder how many other companies were overcharged. The truth is we will probably never know.
