I'm an active duty service member who was a student at Regency Barber College. I was enrolled and attending the Barber school when I ran into some issues that caused me to have to stop attending shortly before coming down on PCS Orders to another duty station. I used my GI Bill to pay for the cost of the school (which was not the best idea) and contacted the school administration person (Antoine Way) to discuss refunding the remainder of my paid tuition. From Feb of 2014 to May of 2014 we were still discussing a process that was only supposed to take 30 to 45 days before my refund was sent to me or back to VA. My complaint is that there has never been any verification that funds were sent out. There was no point of contact for the person or people directly responsible for refunding the money as Mr Way continually said that he was not the person who issues the checks. I was told that the check had been sent out a couple of weeks ago (by Mr Way) but nobody was able to tell me what address it was sent to. There was no tracking number or method to track the check which was supposed to be for over $15, 000.00 and it's very seldom I get an answer when I call the school to get a status on the matter.
I have Mr Way's cell phone number and I have text him repeatedly without response from him. Ifinally spoke to him on Wednesday and he told me to call him Friday. I called Friday and he was not available at all. I had my wife go by the school to see what she could find out only to meet with Mrs Macky the owner's wife. My wife asked for Mr Macky or Mr Way and suddenly Mrs. Macky began moving her head from side to side (as African American women do when they have an attitude) and said (as I was on the phone listening) that Mr Macky wasn't there. Then she asked for Mr Way as I asked her to do. Mrs Macky asked what it was in reference to. As my wife began repeating what I said through her earpiece on the phone. Mrs Macky stated that she doesn't know anything about the refund portion and Mr Way wasn't there and he would be back Monday because he is the only one that handles that. I told my wife to tell her I've been working with Mr Way on this since February and I just want to know what the status is on my refund because I hadn't received it yet. Mrs Macky suddenly became smart about the matter saying that I wouldn't receive the refund, it would go back to VA. I then told my wife to tell her that VA hasn't received it either because they keep asking me about it. After we were told to call back Monday because it was Friday afternoon my wife left and began telling me about the demeanor of Mrs Macky while speaking to her.
I then text Mr Way to tell him how unprofessional and unorganized this mess is and has been from day 1. They ought to be embarrassed at the way business is being handled or NOT handled.
The school has state of the art equipment and bottom of the barrel attitude when it comes to conducting business. I've gone to other schools and this one is substandard from the Main Office to the Classroom. Perhaps they didn't get the memo that attitude can make or break a business.
