I'm ashamed of Portsmouth Stamp Shop
Don't buy stamps at Portsmouth Stamp Shop via email! They are unfriendly and too busy to sell you anything!

Here I was eager to purchase quite few sets to complete my sons UK collection of stamps, and I made the terrible mistake of sending the list for a quote via email to Portsmouth Stamp Shop in Southern England.

I got an email back from a guy calling himself "Geoff" saying they were very busy, that they were going to be away for 1 week (you cannot be very busy if you can close shop for a week). He did price each item in my list, but didn't include a total. In all, I added up all the prices and it come to over 200 pounds.

I send an email to confirm the total and the postage costs, but, to my despair, I got an email back saying that some of the sets had already been sold to someone else. I sent another email expressing my anger and got a short note back inviting me to buy elsewhere.

The exact words were "Dear Stephen, There are two of us at the shop and VERY BUSY wirth customers! Hence little time to reply to your questions!? Have no time to deal with your queries until NEW YEAR as we are shut from tonight until 4th Jan 2010. Suggest if you need better service -you try someone else! Geoff".

I thought I was a potential customer, being in position to place an order of over 200 pounds for my son's Christmas present. But no way, I've been treated like dirt, had less preference than anybody, and even got an email inviting me to go elsewhere. I honestly don't know how these people can still be in business.

Hurrah for Portsmouth Stamp Shop who prioritise customers stood in front of them over telephone calls and electronic communication. The shop sells what it has at reasonable prices rather than the higher catalogue prices by the major suppliers who have multiple stocks at their disposal. First come first served, and a buyer in front of you beats a buyer in the bush. Anyone who gets angry because someone in front of them in the queue has bought what they wanted does not deserve any better service.
