Kelly Lorton, owner of Orchardview Labradoodles sold me a puppy parented by "Ginger" and "Rossi." The $1800.00 puppy was described as being a low-to-no-shed dog. At 4 months, the puppy began shedding heavily-- copious amounts of fine hair that floated and clumped together into tumbleweed-like balls less than two days after the house was thoroughly cleaned. The floating hair caused members of my family, including myself, to be sick. We had told Ms. Lorton that we intended to keep the puppy as an indoor dog and that we needed a low-to-no-shedding dog before we bought the puppy. This is the reason for paying so much, and traveling so far to purchase a puppy.
After about a year of shedding, we consulted a groomer about why our puppy shed so much. Ms. Lorton was not helpful-- she only offered to replace the puppy. Ms. Lorton gave no advice or help aboutn how to fix our puppy's heavily shedding coat. Finally we consulted an experienced labradoodle groomer. After evaluating our situation, the groomer said this dog's coat is a shedding type coat and that it is likely that one of her parents must have also had a shedding type coat. I described Ginger, the F1 dam, and how she was shedding when I picked the puppy up. I described her straight, hair-like, fluffy coat, and the groomer said it is likely the dam has a shedding type coat.
Ms. Lorton refunded our money (minus the tax) to us when we brought the puppy back well over a year later. (In addition, our puppy had problems with vaginitis, likely related to the 7 wk spay procedure, and she had to be treated for worms the first week we got her home.) We spent almost 2000 dollars on various puppy goods and services (like vet bills) that we will never get back in addition to the price of the puppy.
Ms. Lorton signed the paperwork for us to receive a tax refund from the government. It took many hours and several months to prove to the revenue service that they owed us a refund, and that we were entitled to it.

Buyer BEWARE. I have already filed a complaint with the attorney general's office.

Valerie,

The last time we spoke was on June 28, 2013 when you surrendered Penny to me and I gave you a 100% refund of your original purchase price. As you stated, from the very first time you complained to me about her shedding I gave you the option to return her for a refund. I cannot control what happens to a puppy as the coat matures and develops and I never intended to harm you. My contract does not guarantee coat quality but I still felt it was best for everyone for me to refund your money. I rehomed Penny within a week with a wonderful family who adores her and doesn't mind her lightly shedding coat.

You're correct, you did file a complaint with the Attorney General which they declined to pursue after I told them I had offered to refund your money. It says a lot about your character that you've filed this complaint when I have already done everything within reason to remedy the situation. It's been 7 months since I refunded your money. Penny is happy, I have moved on and I suggest you do the same.

Respectfully,
Kelly Lorton
