We purchased a puppy from MD Danes on limited registration. We took the pup to the vet for the wellness check, and got the diagnosis of vaginitis, worms, and she was knuckling over, a condition seen in dogs where the ankle is farther forward than the foot, which, untreated, can cripple the dog. It is normally caused by malnutrition. The breeder has refused to communicate with me about my concerns (not answering e-mails), or me voicing my disappointment in the quality of puppy I received. Just wanted to warn all future buyers that at the first sign of trouble, these breeders tuck tail and run. They do not stand behind their dogs.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
We also purchased a puppy from MDDanes in 2011. She got a urinary tract infection very soon after we brought her home and she had them off and on for the first 6 months of her life. I contacted the breeder just to ask if I had any recourse under the contract, as the vet visits were getting pricey. I was told no, I did not have any recourse, and I accepted that answer completely. Our dog is now over 1 ½ years old and is only 100lbs despite the fact that she eats more than 8 cups of food per day. The vet says she is healthy, but I have wanted to speak with the breeder about it. Unfortunately, I have tried numerous times, but by phone and by email, to contact the breeder over the past year and have had no response. This is disappointing, as you would think the breeder would want to ensure the health and well-being of an animal that once belonged to them. In fact, their website states “We are available as a resource for advice and support for the life of the dog.” You would also think that any information on the health of one of their dogs would be of utmost importance to them for consideration of future litters. The other concern I have had is that our dog is extremely high energy – something I don’t often see in great danes. When she gets around another dog, she can hardly contain herself and it is challenging to find other dogs who don’t mind this obsessive behavior.
Despite these small issues, our dog seems happy and healthy and I would not trade her for the world. She is extremely intelligent, obedient and a loving and sweet girl. I just wish the breeder would talk to me.
Mddanes have talked to both of these puppy owners. The knuckling over is common is caused bu too much protein in the food. I advised to wrap the ankle area and to make sure they were feeding the puppy eagle pack adult food. As far as the worms they have three check-ups before 8 weeks and are wormed in the vet advises this. The uti will be taking care of with antibotics I did advise to them to make sure to wipe the girls private with baby wipes and to make sure it is clean all the time. I have proof I have talked with these puppy owmners several emails that I have saved. I love my puppies and take care of them like they are my children for in a sense they are. Mddanes has been breeding Great danes for over 11 years and we have had no complaints if a owner contacts me I do my very best to help. I have replaced puppies even when it is not warranted in the contract. I want everyone to love there babies they have received from Mddanes.
I have purchased two puppies from MDDanes, and as such, I have attended many puppy playtimes, and visited both my pups when they were still with the breeder on several occasions. I was warmly encouraged to do this. In fact, I have even visited other litters just to see them. Everytime I dropped in to visit, the conditions were very reassuring. These pups were receiving the best possible care, all of them. Additionally, I use the same vetinary practice as MDDanes. I have used this vet for many years, and can tell you that that they do not cut corners and, quite frankly, they are very expensive. I've seen MDDanes in there with their litters several times over the years. Their litters get at least 3 vet visits. Their dogs are health tested. I know this family (MDDanes), and I know how they have worked tirelessly bottle feeding puppies when necessary. I know how personally invested they are in their love of Great Danes, and breeding quality puppies.
Both of my MDDanes*s dogs are exceptional and I get showered with oohs and
Ahhhs whenever I take my dogs out in public. I think the instances above are cases of owners not being knowledgeable on the breed. And, in the case of the lady being disappointed that her dog only weighs 100 lbs, well they are slow to mature. Neither of my dogs achieved their adult weight until they were in their third year. Neither complaint in my opinion disparages MDDanes legitimately.
