Lila Practice review: Unexpected costs

I have recently given birth to a boy and my obstetrician was Dr Lindi Murray. In our last consultation Dr Murray said that everything would be covered by my medical aid as I have a Coastal Core in-hospital plan with Discovery. I specifically asked her if there would be any unexpected costs months ahead of time and she very clearly said no, so I had not budgeted for it. 2 months later and I get an sms stating that I have an outstanding balance of over R7000. I email in and 2 weeks later I am told the Dr will give me a 50% discount.

It is unacceptable that this happened to arise when I was explicitly told otherwise. I would have chosen another doctor had I known I'd have to pay extra.

Also Dr Adrian Burger the anesthetist happened to mention as he was wheeling me into the delivery theater room that he may charge extra, by then it was much too late to arrange a different person. He said nothing before then, in fact I had only met him on the day of the delivery.

I feel hard done by regarding these sudden costs!
