This is supposely a non-profit. I had a child who participated in this year's competition. There was a $40.00 sign-up fee. You had to pay for pictures. Parents paid between $65.00 & $185.00 for ads. Some of us paid for more then one ad. The programs were poor quality. You could not make out the faces, the fonts were all different, it was very dark, only one staple held the program together and the ads were only half pages not full page. We moved around from location to location which made me a little suspicious. I called and was told the director did not pay to use these facilities. I think the parents should recieve a refund. This organization had several fundraisers, collected money from parents and charged $30.00 for tickets to the event. It had to be at least 200 people there. What are they doing with the money? I am so sick of these "organizations" like Lady Productions scamming the community for their money.

The issue is the paying parents want to be reinburst for the programs because it was unsatisfactory. The issue couldn't be addressed sooner, because the programs were not seen until the day of the competition. The outcome of the competition is not relavent to the fact that those pageant booklet were not legible. I don't think anyone would be happy if they paid almost two hundred dollars for one non legible ad.

This is to address the parents of the winner. I'm not sure if you read my complaint, but not one time did I mention your child or defame you or anyone of the families in anyway. My issue is with the director. Now is it not true that you were an LP for the pageant last year Ms. Mills? Is it not true that you are friends with the director? Also Ms. Little made it very clear that no parents were allowed back stage, but yet she allowed you backstage on several occasions, correct? Pageants normally don't allow former employees or children of former employees in competitions nor do they take the kind gestures of a contestant(the background) because it could be mistakin as a bribe. Third you two are the only ones who came on this site and use profanity. If you are so concern about the children, then maybe you should learn how to articulate yourselves without that kind of language. I think you just made the point of the other parents. Ms. Little needs grammar lesson and you two need some etiquette classes. And this what we have representing the state of New Jersey...WOW

I am going to take action, but I will not waste my time at a meeting arguing with someone who thinks there so right. These kind of sites where created so that if someone has a complaint or have an issue with a company, businees, etc. they can state there issues. I'm not shocked by the outcome or reactions of people. The things being said online were being said through that whole night and even during the process. Sometimes it takes one person to get the ball rolling. The complaints could have just stop with me, but apparently other parents and viewers had an issue with how things are being handled.

I will take action and this blog is how I choose to start.

As a parent of two of the girls in the 2015 Pageant and a family member on the Judges panel, I am hear to say that it was not all fixed. I will however say that it may be a chosen few though. My daughter did end up being one of the top five, however I don't think she really had a chance. However, I was pleased with the venue and the execution of the event, for the exception of them getting my daughters names mixed up everytime. I have a feeling that there is some insider things going on, but all in all, it was a nice experience for my daughters. Honestly, I would like them to participate again, to see if it is true that only the select few will win.

I wish I had read this board before my niece signed up. Could have saved money, time, and energy. Not to mention the sheer disappointment of not even getting a fair chance. I am 1000 percent convinced that this pageant is rigged. In fact it has been stated that every year a member of the Trenton Dream Makers dance studio/dance team has won as was evident from the two previous winners present one of which was a multiple yr winner not to mention the 2015 winner was apart of the Dream makers studio as well. The Dream makers studio had vendors and performed at this "pageant". The winner during the interview question was very incoherent and did not even finish one sentence before bursting into tears. She said she was finished when overcome with "emotion" and the remaining girls said their speeches. The "judges" tallied up and submitted the winners then one of the MC's continued to press the little girl stating " I know you have something to say you need to get it out" The girl then proceeded to recite a long winded speech that she continuously cried through. They sent the papers back to the "judges" with the girls picture during her very long muffled monologue. It was announced following her do-over speech that she was the winner. Seems very odd to me that after the judges submitted a winner the girl had an opportunity to say her speech that she had failed to say during the interviews with all the girls and she was declared the winner. Parents please don't subject your babies to this unless you're part of the chosen crew to win it. The fact that local "judges" were used is icing on the cake that it was all fixed. With as little a town that Trenton is it behooves me that they wouldn't get all outside judges with no connection to Trenton in order to be fair considering most of the contestants have ties to Trenton. Nice try with the small trophies for everyone those who seen this show in action know it was little consolation to the fact that none of the other girls even had a fair shot to start with. Please seek out other pageants The Little Miss New Jersey is not worth it!

I would like to say as a parent of 2 girls in the 2015 show, I am pleased with the amount of time and energy Ms. Little has been putting into this current show. I cannot speak to the previous pageants because this is my first. So far so good. I think we as a community need to stop attacking a young lady who was obviously in the beginning stages of this type of endeavor. She is in the learning stage and with each year I'm sure she will get better and more organized. Support this young lady and offer feedback so that she may have a chance to change and correct her mistakes. Work with her and offer her some mentorship (if that's a word), but seriously any pageant or competitiion is going to have some, even if very little, negative impact on these young girls. It's common knowledge that they have to strive to be the best, however everyone cannot win, so there is the possibility of disappointment. But as a parent you are fully aware of this risk and are clearly making a concious decision when placing your daughters in these competitions. My name is Cekeira Brooks and I approved this message.

One final thought. To represent one's business as a non-profit, you must register with the taxing authorities at both the state and federal level. There is a difficult approval process, and it is not easy to meet the requirements.

Also, if you have questions about the financials of a non-profit, you can easily access them as they must be published annually.

Likewise, there is no need to quibble about an organization being, or not being, a non-profit. There are official federal online resources for verifying the status of an organization. For example, here is the official one provided by the IRS: http://www.irs.gov/Charities-&-Non-Profits/Search-for-Charities

As the federal site states, you may also confirm an organization's status by calling the IRS (toll-free) at [protected].

Please note that when I typed quotation marks within the previous post, apparently the website automatically inserted text like this: .&rdquo. instead of the quotation marks.

So please know that when you see that on the previous post, I was just pasting in phrases directly pasted from this comment page. To do that properly, I was surrounding the quoted phrases with quotation marks.

I apologize for any difficulty that makes for reading.

This is Steve Mayes, the director for NAMISS, which is a pageant system that is in no way affiliated with the one discussed on this page. I was just notified of the rather lively discussion that is going on within this page and I encourage everyone to calm down a bit. :-)
I am also the husband of Kathleen Mayes, about which this statement was posted by "TRENTON HOUSE OF HOPE" on this comment page:
"Contestant #4 I am very aware of them in fact I know Ms. Mayes personally and she knows me by real name and the name of Hope! She knows my history in fact when they 1st got here to North Jersey I was in the same classes they was in.”
OK, I must admit, Kathleen and I have reviewed this page and we do not know who Hope is. We know a number of people named Hope, but are not sure who this person is. We also do not live in New Jersey, we never have, and we have never taken classes there. So, we are not really sure what that statement is about.

We also have great concern with this statement that was posted by "TRENTON HOUSE OF HOPE":
“I CAN 100% GUARANTEE THAT SHE WILL BE PLACED IN A TV SHOW OR MOVIE OR POSTERS OR IN BOOKS &/OR ETC. ... “
Our response to that is that while a proprietor may have every good intention of providing things like that, we would be highly cautious of placing faith in those actions being taken. It is our respectful feeling that no pageant system of which we know, nor credible talent agent nor manager, would make representations like that. We respectfully encourage the proprietor who is making those statements to not do so. Everyone will be better served.

We wish everyone involved the very best of success and happiness.

I disagree with all of you.
You say this "Pageant'' was a scam correct? Go into the real pageant World and you'd see that they page triple the $ 40.00's you had to pay. Be thankful your daughter got her shot up on that stage. Don't complain if this is your first pageant. You had to pay $ 40.00 big woop, some people pay more, waaay more on a daily basis for their daughters.
Thank you..

@ Jon and this place. Parents of children who perform are no different then the parents who have children who are athletes. Why is ok to have your son playing football in 103 degrees risking heat stroke or in some severve cases death. I never heard of a pageant girl being hair sprayed to death. When I child is young you as the parent must steer them a direction which you feel is beneficial and when they are old enough they can decide what it is that they would like to be. There is such a double standard in our society. If the child is happy, thats all that matters.

I understand how you may think not so kindly of this industry. Toddlers and Tiaras and seeing complaints on boards can make people think unkind about pageants in general. Pageants can be a wonderful platform for girls and young woman. You earn scholarship money for school and bring needed attention to a platform or cause that impacts not only your community, but the nation. The problems is when you have someone like this Ms. Little who seems to only focus on the superficial side. Little girls parading around like adults, dancing in a suggestive matter and the director not taking time to really teach them anything, but how to walk. Now I'm not saying that about all the girls and parents, but the ones who takes offense to this are guilty. What about kindness, hygiene, community service, ettiquette, poise, selflessness, public speaking and grace. Celebrating academic achievement or community service. I saw non of those things in this years competition. What I saw was a director trying to prove something and promote the careers of family members. There is good and bad in every industry and the lil miss new jersey pageant is one of the bad. Parents be smart when choosing activities for your children. Trenton whats going on?

@Frydah, I feel like I have heard this story too many times. She says she has haters, but who with half a brain would envy someone who so many people have such low opinions of. Five pages full of complaints says alot. @ Blackwoman, you can not assume that people don't contribute to the community. I have been a volunteer for two decades and work for the arts council. If you do not agree with me thats fine, but do not make uneducated assumptions. What are you doing to help kids, besides taking up for someone who is least deserving of it?

I understand folks want to see the best in others, but the worst thing you can be is an enabler. Those who justify the actions of the director are enablers. Her age means nothing, she said it herself this is her 5th year and she is pratically thirty? I have seen families in the past be upset or diappointed that their child didn't win, but this is different. Parents recieving text messages prior to the show naming the winner. And from my understanding the top 5 was pre determined as well. People talk and they talk alot and this is a small town were everybody knows, everybody. There was a parent that was giving special treatment. Had it been your child that was treated unfairly you would not be so quick to defend her. It's ok as long as it's not affecting you. Thats the wrong mentality to have. Any child in our city being treated unfairly, we should stand up for. Plus according to my nephew this young woman has some kind of reputation and it isn't a good one. The blind leading the blind. You enablers will find out the hard way. Wrong is wrong, can't everybody be lying on this girl.

Although I was unable to make this years pageant, I can't help to be sympathetic to what the parents have to say. However, I must say that out of all the posts I've read, I have to agree with ABlackWomanAlso. I couldn't of said it better myself. Trial and error comes with anything we try to accomplish. It is impossible to please everyone with the work it takes to put a production together (unprofessional, unorganized or not). Think about it, the very reason people don't live out their dreams is because they are afraid to fail, ( i.e, negative comments, bashing, etc.) To the director: take everything everyone said as construction criticism, learn from it and move on. If you truly started out on this venture for the upbuilding of the community then keep going.

Amazing. Simply Amazing how BLACK Organizations cannot succeed because of the "Crab in a bucket mentality"
Simply Childish for anyone to write on a blog instead of speaking to the director herself.
Immature and a bad example to the participants who'll one day see their parents' comments left on this blog. Especially, considering that most of you are probably using time that you could be spending time with your daughters to write on this blog.
Whoever started this blog, I’m sure you wouldn't be upset if your daughter had won. It's an awful shame how Black People, and in this case most likely black women (or other minorities) tare each other down.
It's a shame how people try to break leaders. Did you ever offer to help the Director? I'm sure she would not have rejected anyone's extra help. With the cost of the hall, food, dj, performers such as the 3kz, printing programs, booking dates, times, rehearsal space, scheduling rehearsals, decorations, tickets, casting participants, finding Judges, lighting, photographers etc...on TOP of being a Single Working Mother (which some of you can probably relate to and should have more sympathy for) SHE DID AN EXCELLENT JOB!
Try planning an event of this magnitude for yourselves and THEN see how it feels. It’s wonderful that there is even such a venue for young black/minority girls to express themselves in a positive light. Not one that reflects the world’s common perception of the Black Female: Ugly, Loud, Complains, Rude, Over-weight, Single Parent etc.
This Pageant, even if in a small way is showing these girls that they can be MORE than those negative stereotypes and to be proud of who they are.
It’s up to the rest of the members of this community to plan other events and programs for our youth. The Director is doing her part. What are you doing to help these kids? Writing on this Blog?

Did anyone save this text message? It would have the date and time and prove the pageant was indeed fixed. Also even though I know it's kind of a pain, I really think the parents and workers should get together and share this story with the news. At the end of the day this woman wasted your valuable time and money. She lead your daughther's to believe they had the opportunity to represent the state even though it wasn't the case. Why allow other children to be subjected to this sham. This Shakia Little character will continue to decieve the community, as long as you sit around and do nothing. Our kids deserve soooo much better.

Question to Miss LiL New Jersey mother? Did you go in the back and help your daughter get dressed and then run out to see her perform? Also, if Sakira was @the door why did she allow you to go back there to help your child get dressed when no other parents were allowed? My daughter told me along with other kids that you was and you should have followed the same rules as all the parents. That's were i feel as thou it was unfare. I wasn't concerned about it until I saw the statements from you and Sakira. I don't know about no one else but that's my issue my child isn't lieing and neither is the kids that was in the dressing room seing you there helping your child and not there parent helping them. That hurt there feeling while the pagent was going on. You may not have seen anything wrong but they did. And if your child told you that, you would be upset to. When she allowed you to do that for your child then she opened up more issues and now people belive it was fixed. You think about that .

AM ALSO A PARENT THAT CHILD WAS IN THE PAGENT, i AM REALLY GETTING THE TAIL END OF EVERYTHING BUT SINCE WERE ALL SHARING I THOUGHT I WOULD TO. THERE WAS SOME ISSUES THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. BEFORE THE SHOW EVEN STARTED. THERE WAS PARENTS THAT RECIVED TEXTS MESSAGES SAYING THAT THE WINNER(SHDAY) MOTHER WAS HELPING HER. THE KIDS WERE UPSET ALONG AS THE PARENTS THAT WAS OUT SIDE CONVERSATING BEFORE IT STARTED. THERE WAS ALSO TALKS THAT SHE WAS GOING TO WIN PRIOR TO THE SHOW EVEN BEGINING. I DIDN'T RECIVE A TEXT FROM MY DAUGHTER BUT WHEN THE SHOW WAS OVER I ASKED MY DAUGHTER WAS HER MOTHER HELPING HER GET DRESSED AND SHE SAID THAT (SHADAY'S) MOTHER WAS IN THE DRESSING ROOM HELPING HER. SHE WAS CRYING AND VERY UPSET ABOUT IT AND SHE ALSO SAID THAT IT WAS UNFARE AND SHE DIDN'T WANT TO DO IT AGAIN. IF YOUR GONNA HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS AND YOU KNOW THAT YOUR FRENIDS AND OR CHILD/REN ARE GONNA BE IN IT YOU SHOULD HAVE FOLLOWED ALL THE RULES THAT EVERYONE ELSE HAD TO FOLLOW THAT'S IT. THAT'S MY ONLY ISSUE! ALL OF THE CHILDREN WORKED HARD AND THEY ALL WERE GREAT AND THEY ARE ALL WINNERS! BUT RIGHT IS RIGHT AND WRONG IS WRONG AND IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU WERE IN THE BACK HELPING HER GET DRESS THEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE. BECAUSE OF THAT WE NOW HAVE A BIG MESS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF EVERYONE WAS DOING THE SAME THING.

I am the parent of Contestant # 12, My daughter place 1st Runner Up, yes I too had concerns on this years pageant however, I took my concerns to the parent meeting that was scheduled for anyone with concerns. I reiterated those concerns to Ms. Shakia in hopes of her taking the criticism and using it to better her pageant. i think it is great what she is doing with the children of the community. IT"S A OUTLET FOR THOSE WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE WORLD IN WHICH WE LIVE TO GET OUT AND DO SOMETHING POSITIVE. My daughter has done the LMNJ pageant in the past and chose to compete again this year. I didn't want her to enter this year due to funding however she cried because she wanted to do it. So I let her enter, i told her that i didn't have the money to invest in the expensive things she likes to have for competition however she (my daughter) told me it didn't matter she wanted to do it for fun, and that is just what she had FUN, So with that being said if she likes it I love it. The meeting that was held was very productive and a lot of concerns were addressed and handled. The judges were there along with some other behind the scene workers. If Ms. Shakia takes what she learned from this meeting and apply it I am SURE NEXT YEAR"S PAGEANT WILL BE AS MUCH A SUCCESS AS THIS YEARS. I look at it like this No matter what happened it's the past and the past should stay in the past all this ranting and raving is not going to change who holds the title. Look at it this way these girls got to meet new girls in their age range, while learning the ins and outs of the pageantry world. No LMNJ is not your ordinary Natural & Glitz Pageant it's an empowering educational showcase. (meaning she takes time with these young ladies and teaches them self esteem, how to do pageantry walks, how to speak and make eye contact with judges) In other pageants as it was stated previously you don't get this, You Enter, pay your money, HIRE a PAGEANT coach to teach your child the same things she does for FREE. Oh and by the way me nor My daughter are pageantparent75, so who ever is trying to make it out to be us, forget about it. The same concerns I voiced outside of this blog and to others I voice to Ms. Shakia and the Parents who attended the meeting. This way no one can say what Dona said, Dona said what she had to say to Shakia and those who it mattered to the most.

Msunderstood,
Parents I can feel your pain but take sometime the time out and recognize "Shakia Little" is a parent too with a son. she only one person took the time out to give your daughters something good to look up to each year some thing no other parent ever thought about! mistakes happen you live and learn from them instead of you putting "Shakia" down how about finding out what areas that you can help her out in have a meeting on her needs of improvement! because fussin, cussin not gone gain anything back me personally I think she doe's a great with these girls I've seen her practice the production part with them she work hard I GIVE HER CREDIT FOR THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE ALOT OF PATIENTS TO WORK WITH KIDS! SO IM SAYING SORRY FOR MY "KIA" I KNOW KIA ONLY MEANT GOOD BY HEART ! YOU HAVE TO FORGIVE REMEMBER SHE IS STILL YOUNG AND HAVE ROOM FOR GROWTH SO LETS KEEP THIS GOING HAVE A MEETING ABOUT POSITVE THINGS IN THE AREAS THATS NEED I DON'T HAVE A CHILD IN THE PAGEANT BUT I WILL TAKE THE TIME OUT TO HELP FOR YOU AND YOURS TO KEEP THIS PAGEANT GOING PLEASE KEEP THE PEACE THANK YOU!

SOME OF IT DOESNT MAKE SENCE BECAUSE SOME OF THE STATEMENTS ARE MADE DIRECTLY AND INDIRECTLY AT MY OWN CHILD..WHO ONCE AGAIN PLACED IN THE TOP 5..WHICH WE WERE FINE AND CONTENT IN DOING ..SHE HAS BIGGER THINGS AHEAD OF HER..THIS PAGEANT WAS JUST FOR EXPOSURE, BUT DEFINATLEY NOT THE EXPOSURE WE ARE GETTING...COULD YOU PLEASE PUT THE SHOE ON THE OTHER FOOT FOR ONE MOMENT AND THINK HOW YOU WOULD FEEL IF THIS WERE YOU AND YOUR DAUGHTER?..YES I DO AGREE WITH LOTS OF STATEMENTS ON THIS BLOG..BUT THE PAGEANT IS OVER NEVER TO BE DONE AGAIN THE CROWN BELONGS TO THE CHILD THAT HAS IT AND NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE THAT..IF ITS ABOUT THE MONEY AND THE BOOKLETS THAN I TRULY BELIEVE THIS MATTER COULD HAVE BEEN SETTLED TOTALLY DIFFERENT AND IN THE COURTS...THIS IS MY DAUGHTERS FIRST AND LAST PAGEANT SHE IS TRULY BEING TRAUMATIZED BY THE THINGS BEING SAID BY OTHERS ESPECIALLY CONCERNING ME AND HER...PLEASE FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME AND WE CAN TALK MZ.MARCYNAYLOR@YAHOO.COM..THANK YOU AND PLEASE THINK ABOUT THINGS.. So I come on here from time to time and read things about different companies, but I have never read complaints about anything so close to home. This is going to be seen by millions of people for many years to come. Now I don't think taking this person to court is even worth the trouble, but if humiliating and tornishing their reprutation is your goal, then mission accomplished. People don't forget what they read and will always second guess involving themselves with the pageant or whatever else this director does. Plus, like the other poster said she answers in such an unintelligent fashion. I live in Lawrence, but I'll make sure to tell my friends to run the other direction when they see anything related with that individual. Luckily I have two boys.

So I attended the show this year and it was fine. I personally felt it was to much happening and that took away from the girls. With that said, I understand and sympathize with the parents of the contestants and the winner. People are very protective of their children and even though some of you articulated yourselves better then others, I get it. Hope nothing, but wonderful things for the winner and the same for the other girls. May I say Halle Berry lost the Miss USA pageant and she turned out pretty good. Now towards the complaint to say those programs were worth you paying a hundrend plus dollars for is insane. Those booklets were not good at all. I also think that though the singer were good, they were not approiate for a childrens pageant.

Now this next part is addressed to dirctor 2012. Whenever there is chaos in the home it's usually, because the head is not stable. The reason the parents are at odds is because you the one who is the overseer is not taking care of business. I'm reading your responses and I am completely dumb founded by your immaturity. Why are you even on here. You think your smart, but you more then anyone else look like a complete monkey's ###. People are going to talk whether it's true or not. You my dear are no exception to the rule. Another thing you can't sue people for having an opinion of you. It's called free speech. I can't say what is being said is or it isn't true, because I don't know you personally. I will say this, I was a year behind your mom in schoool and my friend and I were thinking about going to see Grace perform on the 18th. Now whether you realize this or not, you are a reflexion on her and if I'm not mistaking aren't you a mother and wife? What kind of example are you setting for him. Forget the parents, you are the leader, period. Your behavior more then anyone is completely unexceptable. No wonder Trenton's youth is in such trouble in the community when their parents and leaders behave in such away. And I know I'm riding another person coat tail when I make this next statement, but we live in America where we speak the english language, you should try it sometime. Anyone reading this would have to be outside of their mind to put their child in an activity when it's leader behaves like a pig in slop. African American women have it hard enough already without you acting a darn fool. What did you think you were going to accomplish coming on here tsounding like a fool? I though you were a nice girl, but I guess I was wrong. I'm very disappointed with your behavior from one sister to another. Maybe you should reconsider your profession, because your playing the role of a Jerry Springer guest, not a pillar of the community.

Contestant #4 I am very aware of them in fact I know Ms. Mayes personally and she knows me by real name and the name of Hope! She knows my history in fact when they 1st got here to North Jersey I was in the same classes they was in. And if you think that process is not costly and a round around then you may want to do a lil more HOME WORK! Its a pay a fee, get sponsors, show up and show out type system! If your looking to just give your $$$ up then take her that way! But Im here in this city and offer by far more, by far less then in anyone in the country and I CAN 100% GUARANTEE THAT SHE WILL BE PLACED IN A TV SHOW OR MOVIE OR POSTERS OR IN BOOKS &/OR ETC. AND IF A CHILD IS A VOCAL ARTIST OR POET WE HELP THEM PUT A REAL HIGH QUALITY ALBUM AND VIDEOS WITH A EPK. WE ALSO DO PORTFOLIO (FREE) AND WE SUPPLY OUTFITS AND ETC PARENTS DONT PAY FOR NOTHING!..OUR EMAIL IS trentonhouseofhope@gmail.com

The parents are always the worst. I thank my grandmother for being a lady and knowing how to act. You parents are sorry about your daughter not winning point blank period cause if she would've won all this the programs etc would even be a factor. But your the non factor ultimately and this being the 5th annual one is pretty good. I will return to help and make sure you have nothing bad to gossip about. ♥2012LP CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL GIRLS FOR JOB WELL DONE! And To go on the girl grammer smh so childish who are you? Check yourself. I don't see y'all doing anything for these girls. :/ ... #crickets if it waa that easy.
