Lee R. Kobb, Inc. review: Incompetence and insanity

I called Lee R. Kobb because I had no heat. They sent over a young kid who obviously didn't know what he was doing, worked for 1/2 hour, and charged me almost $200. He also didn't resolve the problem. He said my vent damper was bad and that he didn't have the part. He said he would come back on Monday, leaving me without any heat in the dead of winter over the weekend. I waited all day on Monday and he never showed up or called. So I hired another plumber to come over and replace the vent damper. When he replaced it it turned out there was nothing wrong with the vent damper. The real problem was with the aquastat relay. I had to pay $300 for the perfectly fine vent damper to be replaced due to the Lee R. Kobb plumber's incompetence. It was like taking 5 $100 bills and lighting them on fire. So I put a stop payment on the $200 check to Lee R. Kobb to mitigate my losses. The plumber who actually fixed the problem said the vent damper hardly ever goes bad. Not only that, but I showed the Lee R. Kobb guy that when I jiggled a wire on the relay that the furnace tried to come on but didn't. So he should have known it was the relay, not the damper. So later I get a call on my answering machine from a lady at Lee R. Kobb stating that if I didn't pay them immediately in cash they would have their attorney contact me. So I called her back and attempted to explain what happened. She said the guy they sent over couldn't have misdiagnosed the problem because he had over 30 years experience. I told her that was impossible because he looked like he was in his 20's. She said "Oh yeah he looks young for his age." I said "Not that young!" I tried to describe him physically because I was sure she didn't realize who they actually sent over but she just screamed over me at the top of her lungs. So I told her to have the owner call me back. She called me back and said "We're taking you to small claims court." So later I get the forms saying I had to go to court and I call them back asking for the phone number for their attorney, thinking that he would be more reasonable and sane and I could negotiate a settlement with him. She says "we don't have an attorney we handle these things ourselves." So now I know that she lied to me when she threatened me with having their attorney call. So again I ask to speak to the owner. I tell him what happened and that I wanted to negotiate an out of court settlement. He says "OK send us the full amount of the bill and the court costs" I say "NO!" He threatens to have the Englewood police come over to Bergenfield and arrest me and take me back to Englewood and fingerprint me which I knew was total BS since the Englewood police have no jurisdiction in Bergenfield. Again they were just trying to scare me. He really didn't care that I was out $500 due to his kid's total incompetence. I'm sure the kid they sent over wasn't even a licensed plumber. He made me pay $175 to stop from having to go to court. That with the $25 for the stop payment meant I was right back up to the $200. DO NOT USE LEE R. KOBB!
