Katsur Dental & OrthodonticsDon't go there

Hi, I went to Katsur Dental in Lower Burrell, Pa back in August of 2007 and my husband was in Baghdad at the time and I had just gotten my health care coverage and they sent to me to them. The doctor I saw was a Dr. Brian Taylor; I only went there because the dentist I was going to was not covered by my insurance. So for the first time I went there I have been back there maybe four times since then.

I had went there to get a routine cleaning done and prior to that not even two months ago I went to my dentist and asked if I had cavities and they said no well I get to Katsur Dental and low and behold they would not do the cleaning because they said I had some cavities. And so they took x-rays and they set me up with an appt 1 day later and so I go in a he drills out six teeth and fills them and I got home and I was in pain I could not eat, drink or even pick up my own son who was 7months old at the time.

So I called that morning and I told them what was wrong and so they told me to come in and so they were talking and the doctor told me he had drilled too close to the nerves and he said I will replace the fillings and I recorded our whole conversation. Man I bet he didn’t know mp3's recorded. But the hygienist come in and out the fillings in and was ignorant as can be. I walked out of there crying because of how much pain I was in. And I keep calling and going down there to get my records and x-rays but they go all I can give you is the statements of work and paper copies of your x-rays.

I needed all of this for my dentist I went back to and the lawyer and I threatened them with my lawyer so I can get all the records even the doctors note because they refused to give them to me. Now shouldn’t I have a right to get a copy of that in the first place? Or were they hiding something? But I still can’t eat anything on the right side of my mouth because of how sensitive it is and I got the work done a yr ago and they didn’t even fill them right. All I want them to do is to pay to fix my teeth and everything else they did wrong for the rest of my life and I will stop bothering them. I mean I didn’t drill into their mouth for no reason. But they did it to me and it costs my insurance a lot for unnecessary work that didn’t even needed to be done in the first place.

I agree with all of you, KATSUR DENTAL IS THE WORST DENTAL FACILITY OUT THERE. Their staff is rude, their doctors surely must have graduated the bottom of their class. But the top of their class when it comes to ego as they have an over abundance of that. It is my opinion that they are deceptive and fraudulent with their billing. My insurance would cover gas sedation for the pulling of 7 teeth, but upon arrival, I was told that I was to pay $100 dollars for this nitrus, when I knew my insurance already covered it. And then when I called the insurance company prior to laying down the $100, like I called them on this issue, all of a sudden I was thrown out when I told them I was going to sue them for this $100 fee that my insurance already covers. and NO, this is NOT a co-pay folks. I would not send my dog to Katsur, much less a human. they should be shut down.

I went to Katsur Dental in Lower Burrell for a routine exam. The dentist (woman from India, forgot her name) said that I had 3 fillings that were "leaking" and that needed to be replaced. I was shocked because they looked normal and I didn't have any problems with them. The first 2 were done and afterwards I had extreme pain and sensitivity in the one. Then they worked on the third a week later. They drilled out the old filling and replaced it with more filling. The woman that filled it was very clumsy and kept banging my top, front teeth with her tools. Then when I went out to my car, I almost fainted. They broke off the front of the molar and filled it in with silver filling. Before the tooth just had a small filling in the center of it and now the whole front of the tooth was gone. Plus, there were shards of metal all through my mouth. I wanted to cry, I pride myself in having beautiful teeth and this has caused me severe anxiety. I did research after the fact and found that my teeth didn't even meet the criteria for a "leaking" tooth. In my opinion, they fixed what wasn't broken to make a few bucks, only at my expense and my crappy insurances expense that only pays for me to go there. Words of advice, do not go to Katsur!!! Pay out of pocket for a good dentist, it will be worth every penny!

"Don't go there": Did your attorney tell you that it is ILLEGAL to tape someone without their knowledge? And I agree you didn't get your dental problems over night. A hygienist cleans teeth so I really doubt that she was the one that was filling your teeth.

"222 days ago": Again your teeth didn't get that bad over night. Having four canals does happen once in a while and a root canal failing does happen. Sometimes your are infected and that dentist can not do the work because the infection blocks the medicine (Novocaine) from working. Did you take your antibiotic as directed? And if your tooth needed to be extracted clearly you waited too long to see a dentist.

i also had a horrible experience with katsur.. i went in due to a toothache and he said i needed a root canal done.. he told me to go to the front to make a appt.. had to wait 2wks for my appt. after the root canal my mouth was killing me for 3 days.. the pain was horrible couldnt sleep eat or anything.. i went back in and he said he had to open the tooth back up and to go make another appt. which i did and had to wait another wk or so for that appt. he opened the tooth back up and the look on his face scared me.. but anyway he claimed i had a extra canal that he missed thats what was causing the pain.. again my mouth was still hurting days later.. i called him but no answer so i talked 2 the emergency service.. the dentist never called back when they paged him. i ended up and the er. the 1st time my jaw was only puffy the 2nd time my jaw looked as if i was holding a jaw breaker in my cheek the 3rd time i was admitted 2 the hospital because the whole right side of my face was extremely swollen.. i ended up in the hospital for 8 days. and my 3 trips to the hospital was all n 1 DAY! with how fast my face was swelling the hospital feared my air ways were gonna get cut off.. they said had i not went into the er i probably wouldnt had made it thru the night because i was swelling so fast... all the drama over a root canal on a tooth that should have been extracted!

I am not usually one to complain, but to give credit to the OP we had a horrible experience with Katsur. With out going into a long discussion, this place is a "dental mill". As many people as they can get in the door and then do the quickest, easiest, sloppy job just to get you out the door as fast as you came in.

On the other hand the sedation company they use is TOP NOTCH! I loved the anastesiologist and his staff, but they are an outside company and brought into the dentist office on specific occasions. If I had thier name I would write a terrific review!

I think they are a Chop Shop. They are by far the worst dentists I have ever been to. The only thing I can figure out is they must have graduated at the bottom of their class and this was the best they could get short of practicing out of a back alley. In all my years of going to dentist's I have never had so much pain and for so long. United Concordia have done us wrong!!

That reply above is 100% correct, those X-rays are the DENTISTS. You are only allowed a COPY of your x-rays and info., if you decide to go to another dentist. To be honest, doing 6 fillings on you in one appt. you should be happy the Dentist took time out of his schedule to do that for you, most offices make you come back at least 3 times to do 6 fillings.

Cavities and problems just don't occur over-night, I'm sure you had cavities prior. I don't know your situation, but dentists can over-look things (they're human) OR you haven't been to the dentist in a while OR your diet changed, pregnancy or lack of oral care.

To answer your question, your patient charts and x-rays are the legal property of the dental office. The doctor must retain them for legal purposes. In fact, dentists must hold on to dental records for each patient for a period of 5 years from the last appointment. They are under no legal obligation to provide to you the original records. You are, of course, legally entitled to copies of the dental records, but sometimes at a duplication cost. This is usually from a few cents per page of the actual treatment chart or $50 or so for the x-ray duplication. If they gave you a paper copy of the x-rays, they have done their job in providing you with the adequate materials. There is one caveat ... while you are entitled to your dental records, the office does not HAVE to release them to you. It is at their discretion. Many times, dental offices will only release these records to other treating dentists to which you have transferred. If you have retained an attorney, they may request your records IN WRITING, along with a written consent from you. To quote from the ADA: ""A dentist has the ETHICAL obligation on request of either the patient or the patient's new dentist to furnish, either gratuitously or for nominal cost, such dental records or copies or summaries of them, including dental X-rays or copies of them, as will be beneficial for the future treatment of that patient. This obligation exists whether or not the patient's account is paid in full." I hope this helps you and good luck in your endeavors.
