Review updated:

We purchased two 3 month old kittens from Jumpin Spots Ocicat Breeder in November of 2019. BOTH have now died of the FIP virus! I went to the breeder's house in person to pick them up, and was appalled at the time with the horrible condition... But bought our two beautiful kittens nonetheless... A very costly decision!
Our kittens were brothers from the same litter, and I first became alarmed when a good friend who had purchased a kitten from Jumpin Spots said her cat had been diagnosed with the fatal FIP virus. We hoped it was a one-off, but only a few months later, one of our kitties succumbed to the same virus and died within 2 weeks. Needless to say, we were heartbroken! I contacted Stacey the owner at Jumpin Spots, and she suspiciously said she was retiring from breeding.
Our second cat from Jumpin Spots, Simba, was 1-1/2 years old and was diagnosed with the same FIP virus less than one week ago! He died earlier this morning, and I feel it is imperative to report that I am certain the conditions at the Jumpin Spots breeding house were a total festering place for this fatal disease! Here is her website, which states that she has 2 cats left for adoption. Do not buy these cats from her!

Another friend's sister in Utah purchased a kitten from Jumpin Spots about a year ago, and her cat also died of FIP.
The total amount we spent on these 2 kittens for adoption was $3,000, not including the cost for numerous trips to the vet, tests, blood work and ultimately euthanasia. I have requested the adoption amount back at the very least, but no response to date.
I'm curious to know just how many FIP losses her clients have suffered?!
Feel free to contact me at [protected]@aol.com
Thank you, Linda

Desired outcome: Refund of initial adoption cost

I adopted a retired breeder from Stacey in mid 2016. The cat had terrible diarrhea the minute we got her home and it continued for the 2 months that we had her. Stacey said the cat had never been sick at her house, and it was never diagnosed by any of the three vets I took it to. I managed to develop a bond with the cat. She was quite sweet and did love to play with me but otherwise was entirely unsocialized. She couched in the corner of a bookshelf almost all the time. I had to have litter boxes all over the house because the diarrhea was so bad she would just defecate everywhere. Between the diarrhea and the unsocialized behavior and fear of people I finally gave up. I’d been communicating with Stacey the whole time and finally told her I was returning the cat to her per the terms of the contract. She said she couldn’t take it back because she had broken an ankle and also she was retiring from breeding. That was in August of 2016. I feel. bad for all of us who were taken in by her, and the living hell the cats she was producing must have suffered. Don’t believe anything she says and do not adopt a cat from her.

I also purchased from Stacey, I had my BAILEY for a little over 10 years.

What was the name of the breeder you adopted?

Arielle,

What heart condition does your cat have? Mine just got diagnosed with a heart murmur and has also developed severe periodontal disease (a bad combo, as sedation for tooth extraction can be deadly). I adopted her in April 2019. Stacey said the cat had been her daughter's pet and then had been adopted, but hadn't bonded with the owner's son, and now the owner wanted a kitten from Stacey instead. When I adopted her at age three she got a clean bill of health. That December I sent Stacey a "happy holidays" email and she said she was retiring, then tried to persuade me to adopt a cat with other serious health problems. My sympathies to all the cats and families affected by similar issues.

Hi Linda,

I got a kitten from Stacey in November of 2019. He was also diagnosed with FIP after a traumatic few visits to and from different animal hospitals. She agreed to take him back as I could not emotionally deal with caring for a dying animal. She gave me a new cat who then ended up having a congenital heart issue. Luckily he’s doing well and almost 2 years old now, but it was an extremely emotionally stressful and expensive time. I couldn’t find any reviews or complaints at the time, but glad to see this now. She did tell me she was retiring from breeding after the incident with my second cat. Sorry to hear about your experience!
