My husband and I rented a cabin from Julia Seniw located at 345 8th Ave, Idaho Springs, CO from 31 Aug – 3 Sep 2012. The property was located using www.vrbo.com/173765. We paid a $250.00 deposit as well as $150 per night plus tax and cleaning fee, totaling an additional $572.50.
Upon arrival at the cabin, some discrepancies were noted with the property: broken mini blinds, a hole in the kitchen floor, overgrown weeds overtaking the driveway (almost 2ft high) and a rundown mobile home located not more than 20 feet from the cabin. This mobile home was not disclosed in the rental ad on VRBO. Due to these issues, it was decided we would place a negative review of the property thru the VRBO website.
We checked out of the property on 3 Sep at 8am. The property was left clean and in good order. We adhered to the lease by ensuring the place was clean, removed trash, etc.
On 5 Sep 2012 an email was received from Julia Seniw releasing our $250.00 deposit and thanking us for leaving the cabin clean and in good order; at this point we were no longer liable for this property. A check was issued from Chase Bank and it was to arrive in our hands by 12 Sep 12.
I received an email on 7 Sep 12 from Julia Seniw DEMANDING that my review be recalled because she claimed it was false. She proceeded to threaten me with legal action for defamation. She clarified on the email that she was not the owner. I agreed to correct my review to reflect that Ms. Seniw was in fact the property manager. I corrected the review on 7 Sep thru VRBO.
On 9 Sep I received an email from Ms. Seniw again inquiring about my corrected review. I then received another email on 9 Sep 12 stating that our $250.00 deposit had been canceled. She placed a stop payment on the check (which I have in hand) and proceeded to claim that the cabin had not been properly inspected upon our departure. We received another email from Ms. Seniw on 15 Sep stating that she had inspected the property AGAIN and she found “issues”. An email claiming we damaged the property was received 19 Sep and that our deposit would not be returned to us.
It is clear Ms. Seniw is seeking revenge for my negative review of her property. Our deposit was released and we were freed of any obligation to that property at that time. It was not until my negative review was brought to her attention, that she cancelled our deposit.
Thank you, I dont plan on it. I am pursuing this issue thru other means.
FYI "collector", the definition of "slander" is a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report. My statement is by no means false, every bit of it is true.

I’m sorry our cabin did not meet your expectations. Plenty of other people who have stayed at our historic cabin absolutely enjoyed it as demonstrated by our Positive reviews. We never advertised a modern feeling, in fact that is not the experience we strive for, we attempted to recreate an olde-tyme Rustic feel that is present throughout the whole Historic mining town of Idaho Springs where people can encounter a taste of what living in Idaho Springs may have been like during the Historic Colorado Gold Rush over one hundred-fifty years ago while living in a miners cabin.
As for comforts, the pillow top beds were purchased within the last year and our appliances are front loading High Efficiency washer/dryer purchased last year.
As for the location, you are a stone throw from an actual mine where you can take a tour. Due to the constantly growing population and interest in Idaho Springs not all houses are developed equally.
There is a nice house across from us where a lovely retired couple lives. The house to the left is a very nice property owned by a professional couple. The house a caddy corner from us is an adorable Victorian House. There is a mobile home on the left hand side from our house. The owner is a great guy always helpful to our guests.
I’m very sorry you didn’t achieve the experience we were looking to create and we will work harder in the future to make it a more enjoyable for all.
