I purchased a 16 week old A.K.C Yorkshire Terrier pup from Jan Holstege on Oct, 15 2010.I was told yorkie was 100% healthy and from quality lines.I was given a full pet guarantee for Anything congenital and hereditary.I was also told by Jan that if yorkie pup showed any such defects in the future and I chose to keep and deal with pup's health issues she would give me with a yorkie pup of the same value as compensation, this was part of her guarantee. She understood how people do get attached and do not want to part with their pet.If I did not want to keep him she would then have to find a owner who was willing to deal with health issues. This verbal guarantee was to be put in writing and mailed to me.I never received.Pup's legs were locking up 3 days after purchase. My yorkie was diagnosed by vet with luxtating patellas grade 2 in both hind legs one week after purchase. Pup also had breathing problems and his spine stared to curve. At 6 months pup was neutered.Vet finding his left testicle in his inguinal ring. Two surgeries were performed instead of one. Extra cost. At 9 months pup had diarrhea and vomiting. After 2 months of tests and treatment, pup was diagnosed with suspicious of Food Hyper Sensitivity. At 13 months was diagnosed again with grade 2 luxtating patellas in both hind legs, will not grow out of.Est. surgery cost $3200.for both legs. All of these diagnoses are congenital and inherit.I paid $1200. for my yorkie.I have spent at least $900. for vet services so far.In several attempts to resolve this matter with breeder by phone, e mail, certified letter with vet diagnoses( as breeder requested) and the B.B.B I received no response. Finally after the B.B.B case closed, breeder sent me a e -mail telling me to give her my pup for a period of time and that her and her vet would evaluate him and talk to my vet and see if he was of pet quality. They then would all decide his fate.If he was not of pet quality she would replace him with another yorkie. This had nothing to do with her verbal guarantee she gave me at the time of purchased and again in a phone conversation, promised to be put in writing and mailed.Breeder would not give me her vet's name or his place of practice. I've had my pup for 8 months at this time, caring for all his health problems.I'd missed work and had some sleepless nights tending to him. He was being treated for his vomiting and diarrhea at this time.It was not in my pup's best health interest to go any were .I suggested a non bias vet in AnnArbor we could both agree on.In no way was I going to give him to her for a period of time.Again no response. This went to small claims court. My request was to be compensated monies to be applied for vet service.I did not nor could I afford another liability. My concerns were to take care of my little broken baby and fix the problem in his legs.In court I was falsely accused by breeder of giving my pup all of these congenital defects. Her written guarantee ? I think it meant whatever breeder wanted it to mean.Verbal guarantee, needed to be in writing.I lost my case.I was offered no compensation from breeder in any amount.I was not offered a pup as compensation for my pup's congenital, hereditary defects already addressed. What I was told and lead to believe is not what was delivered. Case closed! I have a pup with an uncertain health future but, I know this he's in good hands and very much loved..We hope for the best!

Zachary thanks for your comment. But, I'd like to say that Judge did not order me to give my pup to breeders vet to be evaluated.Judge gave me the choice to keep my pup or return my pup to the breeder for a replacement pup, giving me 2 weeks to decide. It was the breeder that wanted to take pup for a period of time and decide his fate, prior to court. I'd had him for 8 months already. He was under a vet's care and sick at the time, to add stress to a sick pup would not help his condition.I wanted to get my pup well.He is my responsibility and my vet also felt it was not in pups best health interest. My pup was already evaluated by two vets, from two different clinics. I had two diagnoses. I made my decision and have no regrets, I could not give my pup to someone so untrustworthy.I was fighting for my dog in court and the dogs to come.In Michigan there are no laws to protect the consumers or the animals.Giving irresponsible breeders free reign to find loop holes to continue with their unethical practices. In some states there are pet lemon laws, that protect the buyer and pet.Breeder would be held accountable for vet services or refunds not to exceed price paid for pet and you keep your pet.Pet gets taken care of. In this law some lite is shed on this industry. Breeders either clean up there act or go out of business.Pets are not products, they are living breathing beings. They are man's best friend. We do get attached. They are a very important part of our families. They need to be treated well. They depend on us.It is my pup that suffers from these congenital hereditary defects. He feels the pain and it breaks my heart.Could my yorkie's defects have been avoided by better breeding practices? What would a reputable breeder do if I took my pup to the vet in 48 hrs and told her of these defects? I'd spoke with one lady who told me her neighbor's new pup had to have heart surgery and the breeder paid for it.I spoke with another lady who had a written guarantee. She took her pup to the vet within 48 hrs.and her pup had liver shunt and died. The breeder was no were to be found, wouldn't answer calls and then phone was disconnected. This is so huge Opra addressed it. I just feel it's my responsibility to warn others, to spare them the grief and anxiety I am enduring.Cons mirror reputable breeders.

Not for this breeder, don't care though.

There are no full grown Maltese at 1 and 1/2 pounds - LIES

The world's smallest dog is a Chihuahua and he is about 1 and 1/2 pounds.
