I was seeing a doctor at JMG Specialty Physicians for a colonoscopy on 08/02/22 and because of family history of cancer, the office verified my benefits and assured me that it would be fully covered by my insurance even though I was under age 50. The company that Jackson Medical Group uses to handle their billing is completely incompetent. Not only do they not have a direct line, but the middle men they use to answer phones are incapable of helping more than taking messages so you are trapped in a never-ending loop of calling and leaving messages to have someone look over their coding / billing mistake. They first said that I wouldn't be covered for the test because I was under 50 and they had to verify the doctor's notes for necessity of the test and they would reach back to me. Of course they never reached back to me so I called the physician's office to get clarification as to why I was told all would be covered by my insurance when they checked my benefits. They reassured me that indeed the procedure was covered because of the family history of colon cancer and that the doctor's (who now was on maternity leave) notes showed the correct diagnosis and procedure code but since she was out of the office nobody had the authority to review her notes. Fast forward and several months later this matter had remained unresolved and the middle men who answer the phone for the Billing Dept kept taking my messages and kept telling me to wait because the bill is in review. I've spoken with the supervisor there several ties to no avail. After dozens of calls and dozens of messages and hours of my life wasted, they kept telling me "it's in review" and to wait. Today is March 15, 2023 so after 7 months they send me another bill that's even larger than the original one - one that basically shows that the insurance reversed any partial payment originally made and now I owe the full amount! This is incredible and maddening! This test should have been paid for in FULL because of the diagnosis code the doctor supposedly gave them (Z80.0) and yet 7 months later and they haven't done anything except reverse the BCBS partial payment and re-bill me for the entire thing?!? Had nobody in the billing department listened to the dozens of messages I left them? Had no supervisor ever bothered to review the doctor's notes and call them? Why hasn't anyone from internal billing call me before slapping me with the full bill 7 months later?! I am asking that a supervisor from Billing (NOT FROM THE ANSWERING SERVICE THEY USE!) reach out to me to explain why they got everything reversed by BCBS and now I owe the full amount when this is a covered test for me? I need them to call me and give me their full name, phone number with extension and email address and then I will schedule a 3 way call with them and the physician who did the test so that there is no more excuses to get my claim denied.
