INOVA review: Outpatient rehab specialty/ feeding and swallowing clinic.

I was referred here by my sons pediatrician for a speech evaluation. This apt took no more then 40 minutes. I then received a bill, a month later, that totaled over 800$ for two separate services. Apparently, I was charged for a feeding evaluation (which was correct) AND "treatment" services (which was incorrect). I never received any type of treatment while I was there. The email I received confirming my apt clearly stated the apt was for a feeding evaluation. Not only did I not receive any type of treatment during our 40 minute apt but my insurance will not cover the treatment services so I am stuck with a large bill. I finally was able to speak to Kathy Hoffman, and she was hyper-focused on the bill being part of my deductible and missing the entire point - that the charges were fraudulent since "treatment" services were never rendered during my 40 minute eval for my son. She then said she would consider writing part of the bill off, but needed to consult with her partner. This was a huge red flag and sounded very off. Shortly later, she called me back and told me that this is standard procedure, and they would not write any of the bill off (not that it matters, because I truly don't owe anything for the treatment services). Kathy missed the entire point and didn't listen to my concerns or understand how the original email I received, confirming my sons apt for an evaluation was extremely misleading since there was another service that was rendered during this apt. The email confirming our apt should have specified that TWO separate service would be rendered during the evaluation. According to Kathy, any time someone schedules a feeding evaluation they are always billed for a second service, which they call "treatment." She tried to convince me that "treatment" is the education I received during the assessment! Not only that but It is impossible for someone to receive a complete and thorough evaluation AND treatment for an evaluation that hasn't even been fully written in 40 minutes. I disputed this charge with INOVA hospital as well and they did nothing to help me and instead left the decision to the director/manager of the feeding clinic, who gave me the run around and almost lead me to believe she would do the right thing and correct the charges. This has to be some type of scam that many people don't realize is happening.
